  • The main reason fog machines act up is when they get clogged.
I hope this helps you out!

heads up. you can actually just put the suction tube into the vinegar, save you the trouble of having to pour out the container then clean it again

This didn't work for me, but it started me on steps to repair my machine, so I appreciate it. In my case, there was a clog within the pump itself. If you remove the brass tube from the pump, it should easily spray liquid (fog juice, or vinegar in this case) - mine hummed a bit, but nothing came out. A dippy little $15 part, I was going to just replace it when I decided to disassemble it. I didn't do anything fancy but just took care to return the parts to the pump in the proper order, making sure I could push air through each section. When I returned it to power, it immediately sprayed the vinegar into the air. I let the vinegar run through the system to clean anything else and it worked great after that.

I thought my fog machine died four years ago...I could hear the pump humming, but nothing was coming out. Thanks to this video, I will be able to use my fog machine for an upcoming film shoot! A huge thank you to you sir!

I purchased a tiny smoke machine from someone in the Netherlands (vs where I am in the US) and had a few unrelated problems using it, mainly that it needed an always-on power supply to work. Once I finally got one AND had a reason to use it, the damn thing wouldn't work reliably. It was only occasional press of the power switch on the fob that would allow it to produce smoke. I contacted the manufacturer and asked him what the problem could be and he asked me to do a quick test to determine if the tiny machine (fits in the palm of one's hand) would reliably work without the clearomizer (I guess that's the term for the tiny tank of fog juice that screws on/off). It worked perfectly without it, but rarely with it attached. Thus, my instant conclusion was it was clogged.
How to remove the clog, though? A tiny acupuncture needle? Nope. Didn't go through. Letting it run for a bit while it was cooperative? Nope. That was unreliable. The answer was this video. I drained what little fog fluid was in the vial, rinsed it out with water, added in some distilled white vinegar, ran the machine off/on for a half hour (long enough to get too hot to hold and then I'd let it cool off for a while), cooked off the fog juice and half the vinegar in the vial.
Initially, it acted like a tiny car engine that was choking on low-quality gas but, after enough time had passed, it started to sound smoother. Eventually, once it got low enough in volume, I emptied out the vinegar, rinsed out the vial, injected some fog juice in, and it worked perfectly afterward.
Seven years after this man made this video, it's still helpful. Amazing.

Another possible problem is the heat fuse (thermal fuse) located just behind the heat chamber just below the electrical connections to the chamber. In my case I looked under the chamber and there was a tab that I was able to easily pry down and bend back the tab, opening the bracket. The fuse is shrouded in a rubber tubing. I was able to slide the cover back to expose the fuse. With power off I tested the fuse with a multimeter and it tested open, 0 ohms. No surprise; I saw something smoking under there during a test run yesterday. On a whim I put a jumper across the fuse and it ran perfectly. The markings on the fuse are "10A JET 250v C1112". I've ordered these before but that was years ago. The fuse is held to the wires with compression clips but I should be able to solder a new fuse in place. Yesterday I replaced the pump so it's getting something of an overhaul.

I have no idea, if you have some kind of pump machine if you accidentally screw up, that might work, because I at least think there is some fuel pumps if you mess up something, though I cannot guarantee because I cannot fully remember...! So if they exist, it would help!

Froggysfog does not recommend using vinegar of any kind to clean the lines. Any vinegar left over in the lines will eventually destroy the line. You get what you pay for when you get actual fog machine cleaner, does cost a bit more but please don't use vinegar! www.froggysfog.com
