Great reaction to a "lesser" album track. Thank you, it's very much appreciated. Steeltown is such a fantastic album - dense with strong melodies and deep lyrics. 💙
Yayyy more of my awesome mate's mudic, thank you. This is somg about loss, loss of a love to the New World and a bit of loss of a home. This album is themed primarily on Scotland's Highland Clearances, which went on from the 16th century all the way into the 1930s. People being cleared from their ancestral lands of the Highlands and Islands to either Scotland's central belt or to the Americas, hence the Tall Ships. I could recommend more songs here all night lol but how about Republican Party Reptile as a later BC track that might just still be a bit relevant today. Cheers again fae Bonnie Scotland ❤🏴❤
I appreciate that your playing the more unknown songs. This is maybe not their best, but Mark Brzezicki is such an underrated and great drummer. Big Country are so unique. If you didn't catch the lyrics, i think because of the singers' scottish accent.
I try to play something other than the hits Even folks like Jimi Hendrix or The Stones have a lot of deeper cuts that nobody plays. Often those songs a better than what everyone plays.
I absolutely wouldn't call it an accent thing at all, because I am from Dunfermline, same as Stuart and a mate of his and I needed the lyric sheet to learn this one too. It's more the pace and density of the lyrics rather than the accent, I think anyway.
You have to get the lyrics. When i hear that the lyric { if you're the enemy then you look a lot like me" is dealing with a father and son confliroke me. So good! It changes what you are hearing.. Gine it another listen with the lyrics.
I dreamed I heard that you were dead I dreamed I searched an empty bed For a sign of you And the sea called hard to me Like a cell without a key And I felt the distance I watched the tall ships go With the drift wood on the flow With pride that grows in hardship And I knew you were below I hear your voice And it keeps me from sleeping Why must it always be dreams When your voice comes to me I dreamed you felt the typhoon spit And walked into the heart of it While the sea gulls cry I know how to feel that call It never suited me at all But some are born to it And you seemed so bright and hard Like a bloody edge of sword But if you’re an enemy Then you look a lot like me I hear your voice And it keeps me from sleeping Why must it always be dreams When your voice comes to me I dreamed you sailed me to the swamp in a black boat You spoke to me of things Of the shame that years will bring And I felt your hand shake Though you always seemed so hard Now I never see the sword And I find the enemy Has to feel the same as me I hear your voice And it keeps me from sleeping Why must it always be dreams When your voice comes to me
Steeltown is my all time favorite album, and TSG is one of the best tracks.
The song “Heart & Soul” by Big Country is one of my favorites

One of my favorite cuts on Steeltown actually.

I dreamed I heard that you were dead
I dreamed I searched an empty bed
For a sign of you
And the sea called hard to me
Like a cell without a key
And I felt the distance
I watched the tall ships go
With the drift wood on the flow
With pride that grows in hardship
And I knew you were below
I hear your voice
And it keeps me from sleeping
Why must it always be dreams
When your voice comes to me
I dreamed you felt the typhoon spit
And walked into the heart of it
While the sea gulls cry
I know how to feel that call
It never suited me at all
But some are born to it
And you seemed so bright and hard
Like a bloody edge of sword
But if you’re an enemy
Then you look a lot like me
I hear your voice
And it keeps me from sleeping
Why must it always be dreams
When your voice comes to me
I dreamed you sailed me to the swamp in a black boat
You spoke to me of things
Of the shame that years will bring
And I felt your hand shake
Though you always seemed so hard
Now I never see the sword
And I find the enemy
Has to feel the same as me
I hear your voice
And it keeps me from sleeping
Why must it always be dreams
When your voice comes to me
Thanks.
