I am a 5 handicap and playing golf for 30+ years. I have always struggled with taking crisp divots. Out of the thousands of tips I’ve heard and seen, this lesson ranks in the top 3. Thank you!
Just finding this video now and have struggled with thinning the ball and barely taking divots for a while, will give this a try. Cheers bro 🤝
Don’t know if this makes sense how I explain this. It’s all true what Ali says. However since the swing happens so quickly, you need to start straightening your right arm sooner than you think. If you start straightening your arm as it’s even with the ball it’s too late. It’s all a timing issue.
Thanks Ali this is something I struggle with!
Thanks for the tip, will try that next time.
I used to practice taking divots 30 years ago, not hitting a ball, I'm a hitter anyway, always took deep divots, and this helped me hit my irons very solid and flush, also played the ball back alot which prevents the fat shots, but ball flight is lower. In Texas, the ball doesn't always sit up,lots of tight lies, and wind, will make you adjust to doing this.
thanks Nick. Moved to Texas 5 years ago from California and now can't take divots off these crazy tight lies in North Dallas and it's in my head. Any advice would be much appreciated!
This video helped me so much! Thanks
I’m a behind the ball miss . But when I’m swinging well I take no to very little divot . Except my scoring irons those are always fat and to the right… thanks for the tips
This will help some, but confuse most!
I’m trying to teach my 13 yo how to take a divot, been unsuccessful so far! I take one every time, just can’t teach him!
Thanks for the information
Question on addressing the ball - do you address with the shafting leaning or shaft in line with center of body & ball? Thanks
I don't think anyone has EVER answered that question in the history of mankind. I struggle with that too.
Been golfing since the mid 80's and never was the one who took a divot after the ball. I am a sweeper. Still, I hit it OK for a bogey golfer, about 145 yards for my 7 iron. Flight was never low, mid to high trajectory but I've always wanted to know the trick to hit that divot. I'm guessing I should video myself to see what my swing looks like. It just seems that whatever tricks I've tried don't seem to make a difference.
Never heard this tip before, going to give it a try. Thanks
Did it work?
Nice and thx for the tip
Just keep your left armpit 4 or 5 inches in front of the ball then the low point is always in front of the ball . With driver keep the left armpit the same distance behind the ball and load the trail leg . Once you sus out your low point you will get better contact and hit better shots .

Please show slow motion! It is hard to see how you do it.
Click on the uTube 3 dots in the upper rt corner, select ‘replay speed’ then .25 to get slow motion.
What would help to see is the guy wearing lighter & contrasting shirt vs the dark pants.

Lag...trail arm. I'll work it.
Sadly this didn't work for me :( just cannot seem to get it right.
Great content ! Love the coaching style videos.
I'm more of a 'picker' which also means I don't compress my irons well...although I carry an 8i 165, I feel I'm leaving more on the table
lmao you arent picking an 8 iron 165 in the air. stop the cap on the internet bud
@@hotsweatyballsack Come play and see for yourself cowboy.
@@jasonlewis995 I do the same thing 176 8i when i do take a divot
@@christianbroughton1409 that's solid.
Yes its possible. I pick it also and my 8 iron carry is 168. However do this out of necessity due to an injured right index finger.
Can't make a divot if I tried to....STILL!
lol the "unfortunately" sentence
I’ve played golf 40
Years can’t take a divot
I hardly ever take a divot. It seems unnecessary.
Terrible lesson - Thanks
NO. Never
