2021 Chevy Blazer review! The 2021 Chevy Blazer is a disappointment -- and a mistake. In a world of nostalgic, cool SUVs, Chevy burned the Blazer name by giving us this one, a boring crossover. Here's my review of the 2021 Chevy Blazer, including some of the quirks and features -- and a review of the Blazer's driving experience.

After searching for a car for months. I couldn’t decide between a 2021 jeep grand cherokee limited and the 2021 blazer rs. So i test drove both and can honestly say i was more impressed with the rs. I was so impressed i decided to purchase the Blazer rs instead of the jeep. And absolutely LOVE IT. With plenty of power to do anything you wan’t, plenty of room for my girlfriend and 2 dogs with a decent amount of trunk space. Although I agree the Famous

Ford: We broke the off-road market with the Raptor, let’s Bring back the Bronco.
Jeep: Heritage is key, let’s keep our classic styling til the earth blows up.
Toyota: Let’s see how long we can get away with not changing the 4Runner. 13 model years and counting seems pretty good since we are the kings of reliability.
Subaru: Hmmm, let’s be trendy and build an off-road outback.
GM: Change? What’s that, whose he? That’s sounds dumb. CONSERVATISM IS KEY. We’ve had good sales, let’s bring back the Captiva by calling it a blazer and making it look like a carbon copy of the Camaro since we plan on killing it in the next couple of years cause our sales our falling for some weird reason. Who cares about off-roading anyway? Sounds ridiculous. And let’s not talk about how for 12 model years we haven’t made a Raptor equivalent of the Silverado, but that’s what hummer is for.

Actually making a Camaro SUV is pretty risky and remaking the old bronco is the definition of conservative ie conserving the past as opposed to innovation and trying something new as a kid I always dreamed if my dad's wagon was a Camaro and they actually did it and 300hp isn't bad but nowadays if it's not 400hp people scoff at it. Don't let Doug gaslight you he is very biased against American cars only reason he likes fords is because of his Ford gt, don't get me wrong I would love a retro full size blazer as well but this one isn't deserving of this much hate I guarantee you if chevy did one to Doug's specs he would still choose the land rover

You nailed GMs overly cautious marketing. It seems as if the only place their management has any balls is when it comes to the Corvette, which is fascinating when you consider how much of a departure the C8 is from its predecessors. It’s as if Corvette is it’s own division within Chevrolet/GM and they only have to answer to their investors. I completely agree that it’s way under powered. Even keeping it as a crossover it really could have been something if they would’ve given it a souped up ZL1 package that could compete with the Jeep Cherokee Trackhawk.

But when I saw that Chevy completely missed an opportunity to make a cool competitor for the Bronco and just made a sporty Equinox, I was disappointed. Along with that they revived the Trailblazer name and just put it on a thing to compete with stuff like the EcoSport and the Renegade. In all fairness, my uncle owns a blue Blazer RS and it's actually pretty nice. That being said, I rarely get the opportunity to sit in any car with leather seats, sunroofs or infotainment systems.

you know what's funny is even the old S10 Blazer had some offroad capability since it was based on the S10, which was a truck... that could have optional locking 4WD. So the S10 turned into the Colorado which went away for a bit then came back like 5 years ago. Chevy didn't even use the newer Colorado as the basis for the new Blazer, it's more like an Equinox with Camaro styling! As a result the new Blazer is not only smaller and less capable than an Equinox, it's slower than a Camaro, and has less ground clearance than a Colorado. It has optional AWD, but we know thats only for a light dusting snow... you know, since the Blazer has just a bit more ground clearance than a Camaro.
To be fair I feel like Chevy was thinking about the S10 Blazer Xtreme when figuring out what to do with a new Blazer... except that Xtreme counted for only a small percentage of the entirety of vehicles with the Blazer name on it. All in all they would be better off giving the Equinox the turbo 2.0 for the RS package and safe money and reputation
oh yeah and for the record there is an "offroad" version of the Blazer called the Trailblazer, which is a better offroader than the Blazer... except they used two different names of the same vehicle from different points in it's history. And as for other offroad Chevy's, the Silverado got an updated offroad package called the Trail Boss... but of course that doesnt even compare to something like a Raptor or TRX... the Trail Boss is literally just a fancy Z71 with an extra couple inches of ground clearance and a performance air filter...

It's funny, I'm sure vehicles take several years to go from concept to introduction. GM probably started designing the new blazer in 2015 when crossovers were red hot (they still are of course, but not as much as they were). Toyota and Jeep kept their vehicles more or less the same, skipped most of the money for R&D, and were able to cash in when consumers decided truck based SUVs were cool again. Meanwhile Chevy spent all that time and money designing a vehicle no one really wants in 2020, but would have been fairly popular in 2014-15. Ford must have a psychic working for them or something, and were able to plan and execute the new Bronco to be revealed right as body-on-frame SUVs were making a comeback. Even though the 4runner is selling like crazy, I'm sure Toyota is kicking themselves for canning the FJ Cruiser, as it would fit right in in the current market. Hopefully it comes back soon.

Chevy's whole crossover lineup is simply too bland and just screams boring rental car. I actually like the exterior styling of the Blazer but I agree the name doesn't fit. This would have been a nice upgrade to the Equinox which is the king of bland. We still have a 2000 Blazer that has over 200,000 miles and rather than GM vehicles getting better and more refined most have gotten less reliable transmissions and engines over the years. You would think GM would have made Chevy's more exciting once Pontiac went away but they have definitely gotten more bland and trying to use the same design language on everything is hurting the brand. Get rid of the grille horizontal bar already and allow your designer some artistic license. The only exception in the Chevy lineup is Corvette and it is allowed to look different than everything else they make, why saddle all the crossovers with the same boring styling?

Not hummer. Tahoe and Suburban. A smaller off-road capable vehicle with actual 4 wheel drive and on a proper truck chassis, especially if they could keep it around 45-60k, would have absolutely cut the knees off their overly bloated (in size and price) 1500-based SUVs. And if it was meant to be a Camaro SUV, it should have been an Alpha platform instead of Chi. A transverse engine FWD based chassis - even with a good AWD system - will never match a proper longitudinal RWD platform. Best engine for the Blazer is a 310 hp V6. Over at FCA, the Durango and Grand Cherokee start with the pentastar and can receive Hemis and Hurricanes and have had SRT and Hellcat variants. Hard to even compare them to GM's C1XX lineup of soulless driving appliances.

A year or two ago I was looking at a modern truck and for over $50k the truck I found had minimal steering wheel controls and the right side of the wheel where they could have additional practical buttons there was a blank installed. How in the hell do they miss that mark on "optional" buttons on a $50k truck? At that price point, all of the buttons should be there, not a blank for steering wheel controls. The previous years Silverado, the buttons were similar to those of a calculator in the 90's.

While I do think the exterior styling of the Blazer is pretty nice for a Chevy, the problem is this is just too similar to the equinox. They should’ve just used this as the next generation equinox and saved the comeback of the Blazer name for a more worthy vehicle instead of trying to beat ford to the market with the return of a famous nameplate.

    • @MissLew1995
      @MissLew1995 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Interesting thought, I had a 2017 equinox prior to my 2021 blazer, and I found the blazer had everything I wish I had with the equinox. although they have a similar weight, I feel like the weight of the blazer is distributed more evenly and it handles better in the icy winter conditions. This guy mentioned a risk for poor visibility, but I have not had this issue, either, and maybe I just do not care about the nostalgia of a blazer 20 years older than me, but I was completely sold on the Camaro influence in design. I guess it boils down to who this vehicle was being marketed towards, and I am the target market for this one. They probably wanted the name "blazer" to represent something fiery and sexy, rather than something clunky.

You can't put the Mach E and this Chevrolet Abomination in the same category. They're not even in the same hemisphere. Ford has brought forward modern EV technology to the masses with the Mach E, even if the name makes some folks upset. GM has brought you a dressed-up Equinox thinking people are too stupid to notice. It's an insult and shows you exactly what GM thinks of the buying public.

Blazer used to compete with the Bronco II and Explorer, and it would have made sense to keep it that waym blazer could have been am explorer competitor, trailblazer cpuld have been a Bronco competitor or vice versa. Gotta wonder what people at GM were thinking bwcause whoever approved this is clearly not a car enthusiast. This should have been called the Traverse Sport instead.

I disagree. I think they are releasing nicely designed vehicles. The 2010s was a rough time for them but now their vehicles actually look nice. The new Buick Envision, the Chevy Equinox, etc. I think they're all nice looking vehicles that I would actually buy. And that's coming from someone who has only owned Japanese.

I think their last bankruptcy has made any remaining leadership very dismissive of making anything other than what they consider "core products." They followed trends and even led them in the 00s way too hard and failed, but now the pendulum has swung very far in the opposite direction. The Corvette is a good enough consistent seller that they see it fit to keep it as the halo car, but GM got stung so hard after making such niche limited appeal cars as the SSR or cars that were fads like the HHR which sold decently for a while, but were discontinued after anyone interested in it already had one, that they became so conservative with their product strategy that its hurting them in the other way.

Since GM loves to be cheap on everything, they could have used the Colorado body on frame to design the blazer. Just make it a 2 door or 4 door suv. GM already has all the r&d done for the zr2 option and could have sent those out at the same time as the normal suspension set up suv. Just a big swing and miss by GM
