    De la Hoya fought the best of his generation and beat the best and had losses to the best, the record speaks by itself, Boxing Hall of Fame World Champion, also fought his own demons, and keeps fighting, successful promoter and businessman, well liked by many fans and criticized by others, the boxing world and fans recognize his talent and accomplishments.

    Another great video. I'm a big fan of De La Hoya as a fighter but him being a promoter makes it very hard to like him nowadays. Bernard Hopkins is another fighter who I really liked as a fighter but him being partners with De La Hoya in Golden Boys leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I would love for you to do Bernard Hopkins or Evander Holyfield Hatman. Thanks again for this one.

    De La Hoya was one of the first of a new breed of fighters from the lower weights that made me really sit up and take notice. Dynamic in approach, speed and precision in spades and the right image to cross over, for the first 5 years of his career he truly was The Golden Boy. Yes, his shortcomings were found when he started drifting up in weight but he was pivotal in ushering in a new generation of young boxing fans.
    Shame his later exploits have tarnished him legacy.

    The level of fanboyism people are taking their admiration for Lomachenko has gotten quite embarrassing, honestly. The way there are entire channels dedicated to making hype pieces about everything and anything he does... There's being entertained by how spectacular his performances are, but people are borderline in love with the dude.

    *I think the accomplishment in the Paez fight was that, in a 60 plus fight career, he'd only had one Dr stoppage & Oscar got him outta there in 2 rds to give him his 1st KO loss.
    *OH man! Oscar vs Vargas is certainly one of my absolute favorite fights. But side note, funnily enough, I believe it was Jim Lampley on the HBO telecast, who mentions 2-3 times how much more muscular Fernando is for this fight, crediting the change to Vargas's use of, for the first time in his career, a nutritionist in training camp
    *The 2nd Mosley fight, which to me and the vast majority of my fellow humans lucky enough to be blessed with eyeballs and remembered to use them to watch the fight, was an Oscar screwjob, and Mosley was, unknown at the time, on "the clear and cream" of the infamous Victor Conte/BALCO steroids fiasco. There's a Mosley interview (I believe in Fed Court) claiming he was told it wasn't steroids he was taking, but the quote of note was something like "Yeah it didn't help though, most people still think I lost that fight" lol
    *Just my opinion, but I think one can make a much easier case for the Whittaker fight being a legit victory as compared to the Ike fight. Last, Oscar's record of questionable wins to questionable losses was close to even, if I'm remembering it right, of course that doesn't make it ok, lol.

    Oscar was one of the last old school fighters, before the cherry picking and catch weight really caught on with the likes of Floyd...
    Although he took some stick later on, in and out of the ring (wearing knickers) he was always game at taking a challenge.
    Good vid as usual Hatman.
    People old enough will remember there used to be far less belts and bs politics back in the day, and a lot of fighters generally did or wan't to be the best, these days a lot want to just sit on a belt and big up, I don't blame the fighters either, a lot of it is the management protecting their cash cow..

    Nice one Hatman.
    It;s very difficult to get on the same tier of opposition beaten as Oscar. Especially in today's climate. Floyd, Manny, Hopkins, Marquez, Ward, Wlad are the only ones from the social media era (05-onwards) that are above or similar to him. Triple and Canelo might get there.
    But his resume is better than Froch, Cotto, Bradley, Hatton, Calzaghe, Martinez, Donaire and any of the active guys Loma, Thurman, Usyk, Mikey, Adonis, Kovalev etc.
    A legit top 15 post Ali resume.

I also thought he didint show chavez enough respect as guy paving the way for him but once you take the bias out oscar he is one greats of past 20 yrs and a joy to watch. You have rate Oscar

  • @trevhib
    @trevhib 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Loma: 418 fights, 416 wins, 2 controversial losses, 1 avenged twice, the other ducked the rematch. 2 Olympic golds, 2 World golds, 1 World Series Boxing title, 3 pro division champion in 12 fights, 11 of which have been world title fights and just KO'd a near-elite fighter a stone heavier than himself. Stack that up and that's why people are borderline in love with him (as someone below puts it). He might not have done the same level of back to back in the pros as yet like De La Hoya did but then there are some things Oscar didn't do in his career that Lomachenko has. He's absolutely in the conversation already.

    • @trevhib
      @trevhib 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Anthony Is that comment towards me? I know what Oscar's amateur career stats are. They are both great but also eclipsed by Lomachenko's in many respects.
      +Snapchat How are you able to speak for everyone in pro boxing? It's widely known that amateur boxing is respected by the pros. And not all of those accolades are amateur either.

    • @trevhib
      @trevhib 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's not what you said originally buddy. And Harrison was not respected as a pro because he was rubbish as a pro. Not because of a lack of boxing talent but because he lacked the killer instinct, he was far too nice a man.
      'but not that much' What does that even mean. Both DLH and Loma were both amateurs and pros. DLH didn't have as good an amateur career as Loma and Loma is yet to achieve everything DLH did in the pros. On that basis he's in the conversation, in my opinion, like I said.

    • @circleinfinite
      @circleinfinite 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      None of what you said contradicts hatman. If we are talking P4P, i dont think people would count amateur career and on the basis of pro record neither lomo or crawford have anything close to oscar, including fighting B2Back top competitors. Also lomo is by NOT the best amateur ever, 418 amatear fights against who? what countries and what level of opposition? Perhaps we should consider how many of these fights were at world ranked amateur level. We cannot simply count wins against losses and say that equals the best. otherwise Jc Chavez is perhaps the best pro boxer of all time...

    • @donovanchilton5817
      @donovanchilton5817 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Snapchat Entertainment are you seriously comparing audley fucking harrison to lomachenko? Go home, you're drunk.

    • @trevhib
      @trevhib 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Circle 'If we are talking P4P'. I don't know, are we? Is he? I thought the review was of Oscar's boxing career, that's the title of the video. How can anyone have hundreds of amateur fights and that not count in someone's boxing career. If the intention is to discuss pro career only then that's different and I already stated my position on that. However, now we're splitting hairs, Lomachenko started his pro career much later than DLH. He won't have the time to amass a record of the same numbers. Will that make it effectively impossible for him to ever match DLH by your unofficial measures? As for level of amateur opposition, you tell me but by any stretch 'World' and 'Olympics' covers the globe.
      JC Chavez is in the conversation too. No problem with that. He just went on too long.

      Pernell's only loss was Ramirez and he avenged it Pernell was coming off 24 or 25 wins in a row going into the De La Hoya fight and a heap tone of title victories i know this cause i love SweetPea, he wasn't past his best at that time or nothing like it. Going into the Trinidad fight he was past it, he had lost the De La Hoya decision and he looked shaky in his next fight and after Trinidad he lost again, to argue the de la hoya decision is fine but going into the De La Hoya fight Whitaker was doing great in his career.

      Not at all. Some records simply don't age well. For example, if Errol Spence sbeat Crawford, Thurman, Porter, García, Brook (again), Khan, moved up to 154 and beat Hurd and Jermell, but after losing to Spence all of them went on a losing streak and faded into obscurity, people wouldn't understand how big of a deal it was in the context of its time.
      In the same way a lot of casuals dismiss Sonny Liston simply because Ali wiped him out 2x.
      Not saying De LaHoya has a claim to be a GOAT, but he was extremely good.

    • @LukePettit
      @LukePettit 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a common saying but lets look at them:
      Hopkins - its hopkins, did pretty well until the mid rounds
      Floyd - great performance, close
      Mosley - awesome fight against a fellow great. close, mosley peds
      Trinidad - he won
      Chavez - old JCC, won easily
      Pea - close
      Vargas - easy win
      MAG - won comfortably
      Manny - got merked. 5 years after Mosley 2. weight drained
      5/9. Underdog/past his best in 3/4 losses.
      sturm - terrible performance, close, sturm goes on to be one of the best middles in the coming years
      quartey - great fight, close

      Hopkins would of beat Oscar ten times out of ten, De La Hoya didn`t land much before the liver shot got him ,De La Hoya couldn`t of beaten any great middles. Loma would have destroyed Oscar`s frail lightweight body and might of finished him with a liver shot also, he would of toyed with him at lightweight.

  • @markant9534
    @markant9534 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    De La Hoya was crap at lighweight, his defense was wide open and he got decked, his body was too thin and frail to absorb punches at lightweight, it`s just that the smaller men couldn`t take his power and more of them would have had a shorter reach at that weight compared to some of the fighters that beat Oscar at the higher weights, Chavez was a far better lightweight than De La Hoya was, he was not in that league.

    • @psychoboxingfanwatts240

    • @markant9534
      @markant9534 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He got knocked down at lightweight and realised he was too open it was after that he became harder to hit, he probably beneftited a lot from his reach at lightweight, he started losing as he moved up in weight and his opponents got better.

    Hatman I like the channel but what did Floyd do to u lol! Floyd faced Genaro for the WBC & Gatti for the WBC belt 4 yrs after Gatti fought Oscar. Theres 7 yrs between Mosley/Oscar 2 & Floyd/Mosley. That’s not fighting left overs when they’re belt holders.

      Firstly he is awesome but nowhere the greatest. Also saying sugar ray Robinson is the greatest when you've never seen a whole fight and just say it because you think it makes you sound hardcore is very homosexual of you.

    I don't think he's underrated as a boxer all the young prospects that he has all signed to him because of who he was coming up being a gold medalist and all that I don't get what you're saying I live in the States on Mexican American I watched his career also
