Absolutely loved this! Felt an immediate emotional release. My rib cage finally opened up after months of failed attempts stretching it. Keep the phenomenal content coming.
I am another one who had the bursting into tears. My meditation teacher told me that I was not breathing right and that my diaphragm was probably stuck and he said to see a pratitioner to unstick it but to first try some of these yt vids. I did exactly what you said and i felt a huge amount of emotional energy release. I didnt expect it and it took me way off guard. Thank you for sharing this exercise. I didnt realize how restricted and shallow my breathing was until after a few rounds of this. Now i can breathe wayyyyy deeper. Thanks a million!!!
I burst into tears doing this. Is that normal? I’m thinking stuck trauma of some sort. I will definitely keep practicing. Thank you so much for sharing this ❤
This is COMPLETELY normal and I love that you had such a wonderful experience shifting and feeling safer in your body. Definitely keep practicing. Each focused breath can bring you closer to releasing the deep traumas.
Yes me too. I discovered that it is trauma stuck there. I always thought I had gut problemz, but it ia the stress in my diaphragm that gives me stomach and gut aches...had tears too ❤
I have pelvic floor tightness from childhood abuse. When my physical therapist releases it by going under my rib cage with all four finger tips I inevitably cry every time. For me, it is held somatic trauma I have learned. Trauma talk therapy is painful, but it’s integral is releasing the “ baseline” muscle tension held through my entire body. Mt p.t. also needles my jaw muscles as they relate to the pelvic floor as well. CPTSD is a beast, but I am determined to keep learning breath in yoga and in great videos like this. Thanks so much.💜
Thank you! I was not aware that my diphragm could be stuck. I just know that for the last few years I've felt like I'm not breathing properly... like my body sometimes forgets what to do somehow. I've always carried my stress in my diaphragm and figured it was somehow related. Belly breathing seems to help but I have to concentrate on making my lungs work right sometimes. Today I was focusing on trying to relax and really pay attention to my body. I was actually starting to think that some of what I was feeling could be heart related, but the same symptoms are also stress related. I looked online to find how to relax my diaphragm and saw this video. Inside of 4 minutes I can tell my breathing is so much better already! Since this has been going on for years I suspect I'll have to continue this at least once a day or as often as I start to feel tight again. I can even tell that my whole body is getting more oxygen already. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and it truly makes my heart happy to hear that you are feeling better and able to breath easier after 4 minutes. I wish you all the best on your journey for deep breathing and feeling more relaxed.
Hi. I’m curious if you’ve continued using this technique or have found others that work. Have your symptoms gotten better? I also carry my stress in my abdomen and my diaphragm has become so used to being tight and “stuck” that I constantly feel that sick anxiety or fear sensation in my solar plexus even when I have nothing to fear or worry about. I wake up every morning with this feeling in my solar plexus. Sometimes it will be very intense all day and pretty much ruin my day. I have to consciously relax and let my belly drop and relax because my normal way of breathing has become high and tight in my chest. After letting my abdomen relax it’ll tighten up right away if I don’t focus on it. It feels like I’m holding my stomach in constantly with tight upper abdomen muscles at my solar plexus. It’s even spread to having tension in my upper back, neck, chest and shoulders and I don’t even notice it until I lay down for the night. Im tense like that all day I guess. I’m able to relax when I notice it but within minutes everything slowly tenses up again and then I notice it and relax and repeat. I’ve been searching for years for what the problem is and for people who experience the same problem and what to do about it. It sounds like you have/had a similar issue at least in the solar plexus stomach area with what I call a persistent fear and anxiety feeling regardless of how I’m feeling otherwise. Does my description of what I’m experiencing sound like what your sensations are/were? So I’m finally starting to find more videos that seem to describe my experience but I still haven’t found anyone who describes exactly what I’m experiencing and I haven’t found a technique that works. Although I admittedly haven’t tried anything consistently. It has become my “normal” for decades and feels like it’s never going to change because my body is trained to be this way. But now that I’m living a healthier life I’ve decided to really focus on trying to “cure” this problem and retrain my body to relax. It feels like it all starts with my diaphragm and solar plexus and stomach. Anyway if you’ve found a way to help you with your issue or even free yourself from it all together I’d love to hear how. Thanks
@@danielguion99501hello 🙌 I know how you feel because I feel exactly as you’ve described!!!! Sometimes it’s so difficult to take a deep breath yes? And shallow breathing like you can’t take a deep breath something blocking you from having a nice “sigh”? I also get dizziness when talking and lightheaded because of this sometimes. This video was so SO HELPFUL WOW 🤩 I go for massages every week and she said my diaphragm is stressed holding too much stress 😢 Have you had big trauma like loosing someone? I did I was traumatised. Did you find this useful? This is the second video I found and this woman is amazing !!!!!
@@danielguion99501 Hello Dan. It sounds to me like you are (or were) experiencing similar symptoms to what I had. I haven't actually needed to do this exercise for many months and it was your reply to my comment that reminded me of it. When I first found this video, my breathing was so shallow that my diaphragm almost felt frozen in place. I had been concerned about my breathing and my heart for at least several weeks. The very first time I did this exercise I felt a huge and immediate change. I continued doing this even at work on my breaks whenever I would feel like I wasn’t breathing properly. After a few weeks I didn’t even think about the exercise anymore. I apologize for the delayed response. When I heard from you, I was in a period of experiencing some of the same symptoms and wanted to really think about my reply. Thank you for reminding me of this exercise. The results weren’t as dramatic the second time around, but they were just as effective. The video discusses several reasons for a sticky diaphragm: Dehydration Dietary inflammation Stress Not dealing with emotions I realized that all of these reasons are a problem for me. I found that I needed to address each of them. Because my job makes it difficult to stay hydrated when I’m at work so I’ve been trying to drink more on my days off. I began paying more attention to my diet a few years ago. I think that eating healthy foods does help. Besides that, I already enjoy drinking tea with turmeric, which helps with inflammation. Stress is a difficult thing. For myself, I try to focus on what the root source is and deal with things one at a time. I almost believe that between the mild dehydration and tightness in my diaphragm it becomes a round robin where dehydration affects my breathing (diaphragm) making me feel anxious and in turn raising my stress levels. It doesn’t help that anxiety can cause a fast heart rate and then I become anxious about my heart health. Sometimes I feel like I’m such a mess!!! That’s why finding this video meant so much to me that I HAD to leave a reply. This exercise is fast, easy and doesn’t cost a thing! If it helps then the benefits may be dramatic. If it doesn’t help it cost about 3 - 4 minutes of time. I follow a couple of TH-camrs. One is a chiropractor who gives good nutritional advice, another talks about rewiring the anxious brain. I think there’s a lot of good information out there and who you follow is a personal choice. Basically, I’m just trying to take care of myself. I hope this helps you!
This exercise immediately helped me breathe better.🙂 I always suspected having Hiatal Hernia (never diagnosed) and felt my stomach getting unstuck from my diaphragm by doing this maneuver. Thank you so much!
I'm so glad I came across this! I grew up playing sports and always thought I knew what it was like to take a complete breath, I ha no idea how restricted my breathing was. I just wish I would have expected the dramatic change in physical appearance enough to have taken before and after photos. In just 2 days my entire abdomen looks and feel different, my belly button feels like its 2 inch lower and I found out I have a whole other set of abs lol. It also fixed my posture
I’ve been having trouble breathing through exercises, eating without hiccups and every day for a month having twitches through my neck and causing my eardrums to spasm and flutter sound for an hour at a time and stress of children job and everything else was making me insane. Thank you for the video 🎉
Thanks for sharing! I would encourage you to keep exploring and practicing vagus nerve exercises to help calm your nervous system. My 12 Ignite Your Joy series would be a great start for you.
Wow, this is incredible. I’ve had a ‘knot’ and full feeling in my tummy which I haven’t been able to get rid of w deep belly breathing, and this has helped tremendously!!!! So simple and effective. Thank you!!!
Thank you for making this.. I've had a frozen diaphragm for 30 years. That's 30 years of essential being stuck in freeze mode. Thank God there are exercises that can treat this. You said simple even 🙂 Thank you again 💓
Sorry to hear you suffer from a sticky diaphragm. It's often a sign of living in a high stress environment. I invite you to explore different ways to slow down and find safety in your body.
Oh wow apparently I've been in dorsalvagal dysregulation my whole damn life. Which makes sense given what you just said about depression. I cannot thank you enough for the focus on being kind and gentle i just tried this on another video and turns out i was maybe making it worse 😅
Can other structures like the spine or ribs get stuck, which cause the diaphragm to be restricted in it's movement since the ribs/spine/muscles can't move properly?
my psoas is so tight it pull on my sciatic nerve and feels like it connect to my thy . I cant stretch it they all feel they are working against each other . Im a Paraplegic . What this has done gradually ive been shallow breathing until noticed . THe nerve pain is ridiculous
Im sorry to hear you're in so much pain. Have you considered using sensations to help calm your nervous system? Such as essential oils, heat, gua sha tools?
can a physio help with this? as I have a suspicion my digestive issues are related to a tight diaphram. I tent to suck in my amdomen, and when I try to relax it, it feels sore, and tight. I am so bloated from digestive problems all the time, so thats why i sibconsiously have sucked my tummy in. learning that this is probably not good. And the tightness when I try to relax the area also distresses me
Also, when I press in, it is sore more on the right side... could this be a concern? like my gallbladder has a problem? I def think it is more muscular though
Personally, I would lean more towards a massage therapist or osteopath or cranial sacral therapist to help you release you diaphragm and other organs to get you unstuck and then this type of movement would be a great compliment to the treatments you are getting.
Personally, I would look at your lymphatic system first and right side is liver as well and that seems to be common area of tension for people esp if they hold in anger.
@@alexaberlein7790 i think you should do an Ultra sonography of whole abdomen because your symptoms are relatable with gallbladder stone. Please check.
Right side energetically is linked to masculine energy. Also a key lymph node called the cisterna chyli is there which could be a sign your lymphatic system is stagnant.
I have emphysema and my right diaphragm is flat. I also have hip and pelvis problems. I have been doing PRI exercises. They use the breath also. Does your pelvis and diaphragm have a connection?
Yes it absolutely does. I would highly recommend you keep working on the diaphragm myofascially, emotionally and physically to help move oxygen and blood in your body to support healing!
I just recently felt down and bruised my lateral right thoracic side and two weeks later the pain in the sternum became suddenly I realized like a week ago that my diaphragm is stuck up I have tried different techniques but nothing is working every time I do something it get worse I am having problems breathing because my diaphragm doesn’t move not matter what I do
I think I need to try few times the diaphragm is still hard but I think is coming from my lumbar vertebrae like L1 and L2 because I am very stiff from my back that area in specific and is creating me a lot of difficulty and pain
Meh! I have too much fat for this 😭 After years I now finally have come to root of my weightgain. Which is trauma. And now I am doing whatever I can to release myself. The comments here sounded promising. But yeah, 70 kgs overweight so I can not grap in/under my ribs unfortunately. Saving this for later.
For you I would recommend banded breathing to help you give you some sensory input to unstick your diaphragm or you can use a soft towel or ball to place under your rib cage. It's called a gut smash.
Thank you for the video! Do you have one on how to release throat constriction? There is a holding and a sort of closing off in my throat, which I believe interferes with breathing and likely due to trauma.
How do you do this when the diaphragm sucks in when in INhale, I know it's supposed to move outwards when you inhale and inwards when you exhale but my body did not get that memo.....
I would suggest using a band or a scarf to put around your torso to help signal your brain this is where I want you to move the tissues. With regards to switching the direction of your breathing. Bringing more focus and attention will help you correct that.
Maybe try some of the other breathing videos to see if they can help. Try some from this playlist th-cam.com/play/PL2g-q7jZQvMIHSyD3bMg1kXJPKz5YgjeT.html
Wow, i can't get my fingers under my rib cage at all in the center. Definitely sore there, farther out is fine though. If i keep doing this will it eventually release?
I did a pretty intense ab workout and the next day and even still now 6 days later I am experiencing shortness of breath (air hunger), could this be due to a stuck diaphragm? Or any idea what it could be? It sucks and is stressing me out.
sounds like your muscles are still trying to recover. Yes the diaphragm is stuck which is not allowing oxygen to get to the tissues to heal. Would highly recommend you do some recovery breathing drills. long inhale double time exhale no holds for now
I can’t do this. I’m 4 months postpartum and I still have a protruding stomach. I look 6 months pregnant. My son was very large and transverse and I just think my abdominal muscles there are shot. What should I do?
Give yourself some grace and patience. Your body is healing. My suggestion is focus on slowing down your breaths and exhale longer when you can to off load the inflammation.
I think in order to answer is it fixable you first need to ask why did it show up in the first place? What is your body protecting you from in the first place? Once you figure that out you'll be able to "fix" it because you are not broken. This is an example of your body protecting you.
Dr. Matthew Kaufman has cured a lot of patients suffering from paralyzed diaphragm. He’s from NJ. I found out in the internet, I started having breathing problems I just pray to god is nothing that requires a surgery is just something basic. Am just wondering how do people know about the conditions of a diaphragm?.
Thank you so much. I will try it and hope it works. I've been seeing M.D.s for over a decade, and all they did was stress me even more. I asked a P.C.P. if they thought that suffocation qualifies as pain. She said no, that it was "air hunger". I will not be seeing her again. I also have a few other issues that sound like a panic attack is going on. However, there's no emotional circumstances to justify it. (Other than all the clueless doctors I've been seeing.) I think it could be from lower back pain, or A-Fib. I will pursue all measures until I beat this. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for sharing part of your story. It makes me sad to hear that you're struggling and not able to find the support you need...yet! Please don't give up. I highly recommend continuing to work on your breathing. I have a few other videos on breathing you can check out. I would also suggest nebulizing and the benefits it may provide you. I have a podcast on the topic th-cam.com/video/y7xGD4QCTA8/w-d-xo.html
I have the exact same and I have been going to doctors for 2+ years. I even quit school simply because I cannot relax.. I suffocate often before sleep but doctors tell me I'm healthy as can be. Please update me if you resolve this, I beg of you, it would save my life as I cannot live without proper rest and this "hunger for air". I got it after a chest exercise in the gym with heavy weights... .
@@randomshittutorials After a decade of dealing with this,...and doctor's doing very little to find a solution, I've been trying to trouble shoot this problem myself. In fact, my doctors only made my problem worse. I seem to have made progress in the last 6 months. If you want my input, you will need to answer some questions. Do you have stress in your life? (PTSD)Do you smoke? Do you have any heart related issues? (like a-fib.) Are you experiencing any bladder type pain, at the same time as you are experiencing breathing problems? (As if they are related?) What meds are you taking? (Perhaps channel blockers like beta blockers, or anti-depressants? Are/were you always emotionally sensitive? Do you think a lot? If you are suffering the same as me, I don't believe you will find anyone that truly understands your pain. Charlie
@@charlesbruno990 Thanks for answering, how did you make improvements? I have had healthy stress in my life, but growing scared of sleep cuz I choke if I try to fall asleep it seems, waking me back up in a surge of panic and a heart palpitation. I don't smoke, or drink, or coffee, my neurologist described it as a perfect lifestyle. I'm 26, got this when I was 24 after a chest exercise with heavy weights on my chest breathing heavily through my diaphragm. I woke up the next day with chronic lung cough and chronic headache and chronic fatigue and it got worse as I relaxed when automatic breathing takes over and I relax I get panic signals with weird heart palpitations. My family also has a history of heart disease. I got bryacardia, slight arythmia, occasional heart palpitations, and some extra lower ventricle pumps I believe.. I didnt use any meds before, I took a lot of doctor pills after. Mostly relaxants but none of them did anything. I fact, relaxers make my problems worse... Right now I have said FU to all meds except Lorazepam, which helps me stay calm before bed in case I feel breathless all night and can't sleep cuz of it. CT of chest, MRI or brain, lung function test, hyperventilation test, blood/pee tests revealed NOTHING apart from low vitamin D which has since been restored. My bladder is fine. Doesn't seem to connect. My right lung feels f"cked though.. And I feel a bit of fluid build-up if I breathe shallowly in my chest, I can push it away by breathing in deeply. I'm autistic, never emotionally sensitive cuz I just rested it off. But now rest is impossible. I think A LOT... I can't stop I made a word file over 40000 words trying to figure out what my symptoms mean. I think it's a problem with ease of breathing during relaxation. I stay active to feel good. Is that enough you wanted to know?
@@randomshittutorials Thank you. I was just about ready to treat my A-fib, when they found a clot in my heart and had to put it off for 6 weeks. It's a good thing too. Looking back, I think I need to get a heart pump first and see what that does. Coming out of these procedures have gotten worse and worse. I don't think I can survive another. Looking at my history, (and yours as well) it's looking like my heart isn't pumping blood as it should. (The reason for the lethargy, muscle pain, breathing and bladder issues, cognitive issues, etc. If I get the pump, (Impella) and it works, I'll let you know, but I'll first be really pissed at almost 20 years of seeing over 50 doctors.
I feel a bit lightheaded after trying this.. all areas are not tender but on my way down right in the middle of the rib cage towards the sides.. i do feel some pain.. Also it is normal that I do burps and felt some gas running around my tummy that (i am sure I am not hungry 😂)
It's not uncommon to feel lightheaded especially if you do have some tenderness in the area. There is alot of blood flow, lymph and nerves that innervate the area so when you are in a protection state your body will do what it needs to keep you safe...including feeling light headed. Keep practicing. It will get better.
After chest exercise in the gym I woke up feeling sick and I have been unable to relax for 2+ years... I have been to countless doctors, and I know the problem is with breathing... I'm going to try this and I'll let know if it worked.. I'm so scared even to sleep due to suffocation...
@@diyashahani09 I tried diaphragm exercise, and it gives me interesting sensations, potentially more calmness as well. Sadly, so far my symptoms remain..

Oh wow apparently I've been in dorsalvagal dysregulation my whole damn life. Which makes sense given what you just said about depression. I cannot thank you enough for the focus on being kind and gentle i just tried this on another video and turns out i was maybe making it worse 😅
I'm so happy to hear that you've been able to make that connection and now you have an idea of how you can support yourself in kinder ways!!!
The way I feel immediately more loose is crazy!
I love that you responded so well. Keep practicing!
Thank you mrs. Right now I can breath a little bit better with my diaphgram and stat meditate correctly. Thank you again
You're so welcome!
Can other structures like the spine or ribs get stuck, which cause the diaphragm to be restricted in it's movement since the ribs/spine/muscles can't move properly?
Yes definitely.
Herniated Thoracic Disc
Absolutely the best diaphragm help ever ❤❤❤☘️
Amazing feedback. Thank you for sharing!!!
Not sure why i am giggling, but i love it
That's a great response! Awesome.
my psoas is so tight it pull on my sciatic nerve and feels like it connect to my thy .
My rib muscle between that point and pec is super tight and I feel it tense up. Helps
Focus on slowing down your breathing and gently massaging the area
This is amazing, and it really works =)
Agreed! Such a simple and powerful way to help you unlock yourself 💕
Thanks. How many times should I do it if it is in freeze mode for 3-5 years?
I would practice daily personally. But, anytime you can will be good.
The right side of my diaphragm is paralyzed. We don't know why. Might this help me?
I don't see why not.
can a physio help with this? as I have a suspicion my digestive issues are related to a tight diaphram.
I can’t do this. I can’t feel under my ribs and when I try to breathe in and out I don’t feel any movement.
You might be better off tying a scarf of a band around your diaphragm to feel it instead of your hands.
Also, when I press in, it is sore more on the right side
Right side energetically is linked to masculine energy. Also a key lymph node called the cisterna chyli is there which could be a sign your lymphatic system is stagnant.
I have emphysema and my right diaphragm is flat. I also have hip and pelvis problems. I have been doing PRI exercises. They use the breath also. Does your pelvis and diaphragm have a connection?
Yes it absolutely does. I would highly recommend you keep working on the diaphragm myofascially, emotionally and physically to help move oxygen and blood in your body to support healing!
I just recently felt down and bruised my lateral right thoracic side and two weeks later the pain in the sternum became suddenly I realized like a week ago that my diaphragm is stuck up I have tried different techniques but nothing is working every time I do something it get worse I am having problems breathing because my diaphragm doesn’t move not matter what I do
what happened after you did the diaphragm unstick movement?
I think I need to try few times the diaphragm is still hard but I think is coming from my lumbar vertebrae like L1 and L2 because I am very stiff from my back that area in specific and is creating me a lot of difficulty and pain
Meh! I have too much fat for this 😭
After years I now finally have come to root of my weightgain.
Am feeling a big relieve ..God bless you !
Glad to hear it. Keep practicing this movement...
@@FitomizeFitness how many days will the body adjust to this free diaphragm breathing in doing this?
I have a horrible hiatal hernia. Help.
Oof that's not fun at all. I would recommend some diaphragmatic breathing. here is a video for you th-cam.com/video/RGflYfn5j8M/w-d-xo.html
Thank you, for you 🫶🏼
Appreciate you taking the time to share this comment with me!
Thank you for the video! Do you have one on how to release throat constriction? There is a holding and a sort of closing off in my throat, which I believe interferes with breathing and likely due to trauma.
Yes I do! The sound healing video may help you. Here is the link. th-cam.com/video/WsQ_JwrRUic/w-d-xo.html
@@FitomizeFitness thank you!
Do you perhaps get the feeling like there's a tight rubber band across your lower rib /upper abdomen?
@@justanotherstranger997 that's an understatement
@@justanotherstranger997 Yes!! I do, I have not been able to take a deep breath for the past week, any suggestions?
Thank you so much for this
No problem 😊
Could someone paste here the lïnk to th referred video of the Dr please? I csnnot find that button. Thanks! 😊😊
Sorry unsure of which dr you're referring to?
I have to breath properly in order to sing but always struggled with my breathing. I didn't know until now that stress might be causing it
Yes definitely linked.
I feel like my stomach sets off my vagus nerve… will this exercise help with that?
It can yes.
It's not working. I don't think I'm putting my fingers in the right place.
Yup it should...also take your stress level into account.
Helped me thanks
You're welcome! Glad it helped!
Does this also cause tension in psoas, illiacus, ql and back?
Yes that's possible. Pain in those areas most definitely will be connected to breathing issues.
Madam how can i know that my diaphragm is really stucked?
You're breathing is shallow and fast or it's tender where I show in the video.
Should i try to push my fingers down towards my belly?
Not down but up towards your nose like you are trying to touch the underside of your ribs.
I have a paralyzed diaphragm, on my right side. No one has told me it is fixable. Is it?
I think in order to answer is it fixable you first need to ask why did it show up in the first place? What is your body protecting you from in the first place? Once you figure that out you'll be able to "fix" it because you are not broken. This is an example of your body protecting you.
Dr. Matthew Kaufman has cured a lot of patients suffering from paralyzed diaphragm. He’s from NJ. I found out in the internet, I started having breathing problems I just pray to god is nothing that requires a surgery is just something basic. Am just wondering how do people know about the conditions of a diaphragm?.
How are you now how was your symptoms
I have covid and my hiccups won't stop. Can you help me?
Vagus nerve exercises would be my recommendation. Definitely check out the few I have on my page.
Is this related at all to a paralyzed diaphragm?
It can. It all depends on what created the paralysis?
How many times for one day
as often as needed
I AM Working On It
You are worth it!!
Thank you so much! Great video.. keep up the good work. New sub!
If you found value in this, please consider... hitting that like button! 👍
Awesome, thank you!
You’re wonderful. deep voice because of good diaphragm
thank you.
I’m so damn tight in this area.
You're not alone.
After chest exercise in the gym I woke up feeling sick and I have been unable to relax for 2+ years... I have been to countless doctors, and I know the problem is with breathing...
I'm going to try this and I'll let know if it worked.. I'm so scared even to sleep due to suffocation...
Im so sorry to hear that you're in so much fear. Yes please let me know how this goes for you.
@@FitomizeFitnessThanks a lot, yeah sleep is really scary... I slept relatively well. Hard to say untill I try it more.
