Omg thank you! I'm sick and tired of horror movies making all the houses so dark, even in the daylight. That's why I like older horror movies like Poltergeist. Everything was bright and well lit, but gradually darkened the worse things got. That's how you make the audience subconsciously feel an added sense of dread. Horror movies now just color correct everything or use 20 watt bulbs from the beginning and it's soooo lame.

The thing I find that makes these horror creatures truly terrifying is that they operate on rules. When something in horror is immortal, unstoppable, and seemingly everywhere it makes the characters struggle feel pointless, and their deaths inevitable, but when their are rules it gives the characters a scrap of hope to grab at desperately. That paired with the tension of seeing whether they can follow the rules and survive, is what makes Horror truly entertaining.

What made this short so nerve-wracking (the good kind) is the family would have held out so much better if they could actually communicate and focus on each other. If instead of "ignoring it" the family agreed to pay very close attention to anything else, they might've made it. But they dropped subjects, they stressed each other out, left awkward silence, tried to detach themselves, etc. It wasn't so much that they couldn't ignore Her, but that they couldn't acknowledge each other to keep distracted.

    Lessons I learnt:
    1. Sometimes it's just too much to ignore. We need to find a solution, a firm solution instead of just trying to live with the problem.
    2. Unity is strength. Better stay together in tough times. Don't try to escape. Just stay together. No matter what calls or anyone knocks at door.
    3. A engaging conversation to divert their minds and keeping them busy could have been great idea to ignore and everyone needed to cooperate with each other.

I see this as a euphemism for trauma. The kids dont understand what's happening or why, and the adults aren't explaining it. The kids are obviously traumatized while the parents try to control the situation. Eventually, someone snaps, and it affects the entire family.
Moral - you can't ignore your trauma, it doesnt just go away, and if not dealt with, it will cripple your family unit.

    • @MrCmon113
      @MrCmon113 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

Actually it does. As you live longer and form new memories, the "trauma" goes away. It's just like any life experience. However if you think there is something you have to "deal" with, that might well get you stuck in the past.
I think psychotherapists are coming around to agree with me here, as behavioral therapy seems to become more and psychoanalysis less popular.

I'm working in a daycare and I have a few kids who like to pick on a couple kids specifically. Every time those 2 kids come to me I tell them to ignore the other kids, but I make a point to tell them that they're not going to stop just because they're being ignored, but at the moment getting into a fight isn't worth it and it's going to end with everyone in trouble.
The second I hear or see the bully kids being mean I call them out and try to tell them that they need to stop and that they can't keep acting this way.
I was bullied a LOT in school because I was one of those weird kids that didn't like doing the popular stuff. So I know how those 2 kids are feeling and it sucks to know that when I talk to the parents of the bullies they don't really care. One of them the mom thinks that they're just a strong independent girl, the others' family think it's funny that the kids act that way because "back in my day, I'd get smacked". Then the other parent I'm friends with and she's horrified that her kids are acting this way and she knows they're better than this, they just do it because they don't want to be in daycare and the other bully kids think it's funny that a teacher's kids act that way. They also know that if they misbehave enough they can get kicked out of daycare.

As someone who has lived with anxiety and phobias all of my life, I find the concept of this film absolutely phenomenal. Making every conscious effort you can muster to ignore things like fears, phobias, and chronic pain, and pretending that you are not haunted by them every waking moment, does nothing but make you focus and fixate on it even more. And yet, fixating on it makes it stronger and gives it control over your life -- for some people, it destroys them. This film feels like all of that being acknowledged in horror form, even if that may not have been the creator's original intent.

It baffles me how independent film makers can make such quality movies AND they're short films no less, on a shoestring budget and yet Hollywood with all its money and experience keep churning out unwatchable garbage. This movie scared the cream cheese out of me and I love the premise of "just ignore it." The best part is, you never get to find out why this is happening to this poor family or how it happened in the first place. I love it when the creep factor is turned up to 11. Awesome job, guys 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
A lot of the commenters slammed the family for reacting the way they did, but they acted like any normal person would in this situation. When you are scared for your life, it's hard to do the opposite of what your natural instincts are, which is to fight.
If it was me in this situation, depending on how much notice I had of this thing arriving, I would make my family take a quick acting sleeping pill. It's easy to ignore stuff when you're fast asleep.

what do you mean lol "how do they know to ignore her" isn't a compliment or adds to the suspense it's a plothole that gets thrown aside because it's a short film that needs to lazily explain what the story is. it's not hard to leave open questions(as in plotholes which don't make a clever film) when it's a short film that just use the excuse of no time to let vague stories happen and label it as a "mystery". the writing is literally monster, solution, characters ignore solution, everybody dies and black screen. it's absurd how it's formulaic it is and people praise it when the story has the easiest solutions. pretty good film visually but the story in short films receive a backseat if this somehow received an award.

I can see it in another twist as well, a lot of mental illnesses including anxiety cause intrusive thoughts. Ultimately you have to acknowledge their presence and let them be there as you continue your life. But if you can’t completely just focusing it on ignoring it to the point that you lose track of living life (ex the family trying so hard to ignore to the point that they weren’t able to just try eating dinner normally with one another) and so get overwhelmed by the anxiety. It then feels like it’s eating you alive, like the lady attacking the family.

I don’t get scared by horror shorts anymore. I just don’t. It’s all been done before. But the suspense is absolutely immaculate in the video. It’s FANTASTIC

I kinda feel the same but only if I don't get invested in it (I don't know if it's the proper word in english for what I'm trying to say), but if I just focus on the film and the emotions of actors I can get scared just because of me getting deep into it

If you're told to ignore something it's the only thing your brain is gonna dwell on. The movie is a direct contradiction of itself and I love it

This short film is by far the best I've seen. I can see this turning into a hit movie.
