- Fr. Michael Himes, professor of theology at Boston College, presents a last lecture-a talk in which the speaker shares his or her wisdom about the most important things in life. Fr. Himes is the author of numerous articles and books, including two that were recognized with the Catholic Press Association Book Award in Theology: Fullness of Faith: The Public Significance of Theology (Paulist Press, 1993) and Ongoing Incarnation: Johann Adam Möhler and the Beginnings of Modern Ecclesiology (Crossroad Herder, 1997). In 1992 the Boston College chapter of Phi Beta Kappa presented him with its Award for Outstanding Teaching.
Wonderful last lecture and great message! Wish I could have met him in person. I will definitely watch again, and again. RIP Father Himes.
So sorry to hear Fr. Mike Himes passed away...
Such a gift. He really hit the essence of our existence. I will continue to ponder these things as I embark on another year of teaching theology.
I watch this video every few months. It grounds me and moves me each and every time I watch it. So profound.
+Laura Cullen me too. great video. great man.
What a lovely man kind ,gentle and elegant
Fr. Himes embodies the effervescence of life of & with which he speaks.
Very thoughtful presenter. May Father Himes Rest in Peace🙏🙏
Thoughtful, provocative and common sense spirituality. Reminds me a bit of William James' Variety of Religious Experiences. What a treasure Fr. Himes was to Boston College and his students. He exemplified what he believed. He gave it away.
This is great. A friend recommended it to me as I prepare a presentation about St. Francis' "Last Lecture."
A friend sent this link to me. I figured I'd listen a minute or two then be on my way. He is wonderfully inspirational; wish I could have had him as one of my professors in college. I listened intently, and even cried at his closing.
So intelligent. So thoughtful. So well-said. Such experience well-shared. Thank you to my pal Michael O'brien, an alumnus of BC, who shared this with me...
Ps: Gotta love the Yankees fan at the end of this video, too! ;) well played.
wonderful!
beautiful and very inspiring!
Excellent
I enjoyed this.
beautiful
So eloquently said. Kudo's!!
Brilliant. Is all I have to say…
@Shqipria5 far from it, they teach pretty much everything, including classes on orthodoxy. Fr. Himes actually teaches a class about what is wrong with religion and how people can still have faith even when it is absurd
God Bless You (please note this comment is not intended to anger you if I have done so I am sorry)
I'm an atheist, and I think that this guy speaks some wise words.
LOVE Amen

I like how there was a kid with a red sox shirt and then a kid with a yankee hat stood up in front of him. GO YANKEES and Michael Himes!
This was interesting.... a priest who says don't follow tradition, theology isn't a bunch of doctrines to learn, and that the only thing that really matters is someone's subjective experience with God. No concept of right and wrong, heaven and hell, absolute truth, or tradition. No surprise that the Catholic Church has been struggling so much with such shallow philosophy being taught in Catholic schools for the past several decades.
Wow alex. Brings me back. Ate that class up. You are in good hands. He is amazing.
is Father Himes no longer lecturing or is there worse news? i had him in '94 for 'the problem of belief in modernity' at b.c. never forgot him. brillaint, incisive and witty, i so looked forward to his passionate talks and he made me think. i can still remember his joke regarding hegel or heidiger maybe. whenever he talked about germans he would wag his finger and say 'you know, a german joke is no laughing matter!" such a good guy. thank you Father.
+Dan Kidd He's still teaching. Im enrolled in his belief in modernity class this spring! Amazing guy!
Cool
Brilliant man. I had him 30 years ago when he was teaching at Notre Dame. Have never forgotten him.
So eloquently said. Kudo's!!
