Fear: young players looked unprepared for pressure. The coaches failed to mentally prepare them. Gill, Shreyas, Suryakumar and Siraj totally flopped. That is coaching weakness. We are too egotistical to hire Aussie coaches. Their coaches have mastered the art of training younger players and we refuse to learn.

    1. The notion of modern day Cricket in India is not what it used to be.
Pre-IPL era, winning ICC tournaments was the ultimate goal. Players sensed it as their responsibility and personal achievement if they were able to put their best foot forward in those games.
If India failed, we were sad and disappointed but there was always a room of improvement which was clearly visible.
    2. Now compare this with yesterday. What would be the excuse?
We had the ideal conditions for any team to win. Friendly pitches, home ground, crowd, in-form players..you name it.
    3. We simply lacked the factor which wins the Cup. It was evident in our body language, specially the young players. They succumbed to the pressure and so did the experienced players.
    4. Defending a total of 240 with an edge to run chasers requires top notch bowling and fielding. Opening bowlers conceding 10-15 runs an over was mind boggling. The by-runs and misfielding was a mirror image to the semi finals. Casual misfields in the semis were compensated by the 397 score and top class bowling. About a couple of months back, an Ex-Australian player spoke about the fitness of current Indian players. At that point, I thought he was just being salty. But I guess he was correct.
    5. Playing defensive to save wickets while scoring 1-2s is acceptable under pressure. But for 30 OVERS in a WORLD CUP FINAL? Imagine the pressure the “average” Aussies put on the “world class top Indian batsmen” to achieve a run rate of 3.5 approx for 20-30 overs.
    6. There was a point when you had to go all in. There was no score on the board and we had upcoming batsmen. Someone in mid-batting lineup had to do that job without fearing for his wicket. Guess we chicken’d out and the pressure kept on mounting. We lost further wickets with no runs.
    7. Cricket is a physical as well as a mental game. It is very unfortunate to rarely see an Indian side perform well under pressure. The Aussies are known for their mental grit and determination. It was again put on display on the field yesterday. The run score, wickets were identical for both the teams 20-25 overs. What set them apart was their mental game. Even in his debut World Cup final Labuschagne played his innings the way it is to be played in a final. Unlike Shubman Gill(pathetic dismissal) , KL Rahul ( innings at par test cricket) Siraj ( couldn’t handle pressure), Jadeja (disappointment with bat and bowl), Kuldeep, Shreyas ( No impact in such a vital game).
    8. If you mentally and financially over-compensate young players for a franchise tournament (IPL) over ICC tournaments don’t expect them to perform well under pressure. It is comparable to ”everybody is a winner” mentality. No consequences.
Also, the audience is more in tune with IPL than ICC tournaments. Thus your team delivers in IPL not in ICC.
IPL is the “obliviate” charm (Harry Potter reference) for BCCI.
    9. Sometimes I feel we Indian cricket fans are taken for granted. Every international failure is expected to be forgotten. If we express our anger and discontent, we are disloyal. Might sound harsh but most of the INDIA XI lacks old school professionalism. I remember World Cups to be such a fierce competition that any team could emerge victorious. Players would trade a limb for a win. It reflected the burden of expectations on them. Thus if your team was eliminated, you were sad yet content.
10.From here onwards India needs a serious introspection to the way cricket is being played. A game that we all love.
For I agree with Ravi Shashtri that it is going to be a while since we hold that cup title once again.

      @dhananjayag15902 ปีที่แล้ว +32

Mental discipline is the key. Players dancing on the field, crowd teasing players with girls' names and the team getting involved in that! Is this what game seriousness means? I agree we won 10 matches with similar situation, but at the end, we lost. Think about 2011 WC team, compare their discipline and seriousness (on-field), with the players today! No match! Everyone on the field looked dead serious about the match, nothing else going on in the mind except the game! Consistently being disciplined on & off the field is the key, which we've been lacking from past 5-6 years! Be disciplined about the game (at least on-field) and then think about facing a team like Australia! Being on-field with almost 1.5L crowd cheering for the opponent team and still defeating that team requires a strong mindset and discipline!
Win or Lose, we'll always support our team, but if it's just for entertainment, we'll keep on getting disappointed!

Everything went in Team India's favour throughout the entirety of this world cup. Almost every other team was in utter decline especially the ones from the subcontinent. They had the home support, 130k people in the stadium all in blue, they were given the airforce salute, they had the perfect pitch at Ahmedabad which was manufactured for Indian batsmen, they had an unbeaten run in the tournament until the final, dominating every opponent, they had 1.4 billion people, convinced that nothing could possibly stop India from winning this. On top of that even throughout the build-up before the final, all the media hype was around India. Journalists kept asking Cummins all these questions like what are your plans of dealing with the best batsman and the best bowler in the world. Commentators and sports presenters kept talking how dominating India has been, giving explicit mention Kohli's records and Rohit's performance. All background noise, attention, hype, praise was around Team India. And truly this is a testament to how big India has become as a cricketing nation with the richest board, the most popular players, the biggest fanbase, the infrastructure and so on and so forth. But there is one fundamental thing missing. It's the Cricket Heritage that Australia has. Nobody considered them as a threat or even acknowledged them. The Indian press were abysmal in their treatment of the guest finalists, with their overconfident remarks and sheer ignorance. Everything was against Australia and they were able to overcome the adversity and also turn the tables where for the first time in this tournament, it was India that faced real challenge and adversity. And they crumbled under the pressure. Australia are used to pressure situations but India aren't. This is pure cricket heritage at its finest. Australia deserved to win and no matter how rich BCCI gets or how much media hype and attention is there around Indian cricketers, this cricket heritage can never be emulated. Australia won the one match that mattered the most. And India lost the one match they could absolutely not afford to lose.
Truly the ultimate defeat of the Indian Cricket Team on the biggest stage where you could hear the silence of 130k people.

The biggest issue was that India had a very obvious template…Rohit starts with a bang while shubman saves his wicket, then Virat plays run a ball while Shreyas and Shubman do the power hitting then then there’s kl who adds the final runs. Beyond that we were never tested. Then for our bowling we had only 5 bowlers and based on the last few games it’s pretty easy to predict who comes when. Our entire game plan was being broadcasted by the media, applauding Rohit for quick start and Virat for anchor role. This has been going on for at least one week now. Of course Australia planned for it. We on the other hand had no idea what their plan was. We didn’t know which bowler to attack or who to be safe from. They adapted them to our game, while we focused on ourselves. Even in the pc Cummins said that they know how to break thru the top order, and they were pretty close in the first game. We took that as overconfidence and thought we’d win easily. But props to them, their fielding was the biggest difference. Even with loose balls we couldn’t hit boundaries due to fielding. It was the opposite for us, we were in the game in the power play with our bowlers doing so well but the fielding couldn’t keep up. Losing the first two games worked for Australia, they came with a better plan. We should have realised that Australia almost took our batting order in the first game but since there was no scoreboard pressure we made it. The same happened today, but it was Australia who were chasing a low total. It’s very sad, i know that luck was also not in our favour. Head could’ve been out pretty early with those inside edges and missed stumps but they played well. What hurts is that we didn’t even fight. I have no idea why they gave up so easily. In terms of skill I would still say this Indian team is much better with a better combination. But in terms of mentality and strategy Australia were much much better. I wish india has gone in with a completely difference approach in this game since they kept talking about giving specific roles to each player and their game plan so much that it became completely obvious how to break them. This was the one game where we couldn’t play with our plan and that completely broke the momentum. You could argue that the England game was the same but again that game has less pressure, England were not confident and they weren’t patient enough. Plus our fielding was much more attacking that day. We had nothing to lose, today we had everything to lose. It’s hard but I hope that this team takes positives out of this. And more than anything, we need to change our cricket. We need more all rounders, we need to play more tests and odi and not t20 or ipl. And we need to stop relying on Virat and Rohit. We need to test our young blood. I want our youngsters to play without these big names in bilaterals so that they are exposed to pressure without having a big player to rely on. That’s where they will learn to mentally strengthen themselves.
Edit- abhi my last point, bcci has sent in a very young team for the t20 series of India vs Australia. There’s only surya and Ishan from the wc squad while the Aus team has 6 people from the wc squad and all senior players with 1 new one. Look at the difference it has made. The youngsters know they need to prove themselves and are playing with such a hungry and never give up mindset. All our big wins in the last few years have come from youngsters. Look at the gabba win. All the young ones stepped up with only 2-3 seniors to guide them. This is what we need now.

Jadega was preserving his wickets but tried to attack and lost his wicket. Surya kumar was abismal. I know that there was no pace and the ball was reverse swinging but he could’ve taken singles and doubles. Too many dot balls by the middle order. They should’ve maintained a run rate of 5 atleast. But we were at 3.5 it was honestly terrible but the second half was way worse.

2015 Semis and 2023 finals one man remains constant in troubling Indian batsmen and it's Mitch Starc. He knows how to rattle Indian batsmen's mentality in crunch situations. You are absolutely right about 2003 World Cup. That time we reached the finals thanks mainly to Ganguly's fearless captaincy and some luck. Only two years before that, India had begun to change starting with the famous Eden Gardens test which made Dravid and Laxman cricketing legends. Before that we were one of the weakest cricketing teams. We were still developing, and players still working towards their full potential. No one expected us to make it to the finals, and on that day, as you correctly said, we were hammered by Australia from the first ball. We were shown our aukath. But this time India was the superior team and the defeat will rankle much, much more.

      Reasons Why India lost!
1)Only 4 boundries between 10 to 50 overs. This is the the main reason India lost. You don't have to play so defensively!
      2) Set batsmen threw their wickets.
Kohli was set at 54 little mistake and gone! I don't blame Rohit because he was playing the same way whole tournament. Then comes Rahul 66 runs in 107 balls. He thought to accelerate in last 10 overs but got out in 41.3 overs.
We never come in the mode of hitting only situation. Last hope Surya also failed to score those extra 30 runs in last 4 overs! So all set batsmen were playing slowly and then giving their wickets!
      3) This pitch was not for 400 runs total. Do you get this? India played like let's score 400 fastly but it was 300 Runs pitch. We should not have thrown so much wickets in the beginning and played like chasing 300 runs!
Silly Bhajji was saying that Aus made mistake by bowling first but the truth is that Aussies did read the pitch better than Indians. This pitch does play better in second innings, Eng vs NZ, Sa vs Afg are the proofs.

And India needs to clear this mental block too. One thing is a good batsmen, another is good batsmen under pressure. India - only Rohit and Virat can play under pressure I think. How long can we depend on only two players to carry all burden. Aussies dont have that mental block - their individual battling lineup till no.6 can handle pressure. I think the one department that we overlooked throughout the tournament was our fielding, in the finals and semi finals it was pretty much self evident. The next thing that has been brought to light over the years from the point where we won the 2013 champions trophy is the mentality of players when the balance of the match just starts weighing a bit in favor of our opponent our players start losing their hope, start taking unnecessary pressure and at one point they just stop believing and give it all away(specifically in knockout stages). Against NZ there was such an instance in the 20-30th over it was again evident on our player's faces despite being in control of the match. Although we somehow managed to take away the game from them. However, in the finals after the 1st 10 overs, of 2nd innings we didn't manage to come over the same. There are many reasons including the due factor in the 2nd innings and usually defending the total has been challenging in the Narendra Modi stadium as well as the close decision from the umpires and of course the TOSS. The above info is partially speculative and only based on what I saw and my feelings.

We didn't make Australia change their plan and we kept playing defensive cricket, that was where we lost the match. Atleast one of KL and Virat should've started attacking their 5th bowler, which would've made Australia rethink and change their plans. We let them execute their plans easily. Their plan was simple, they knew our batters won't go hard in the 2nd powerplay, so they let their 5th bowler bowl their overs from one end and one of their strike bowlers bowled from the other end. No matter how tough the pitch was, we should've taken risks at and hit boundaries at regular intervals. 4 boundaries in the last 40 overs was just defensive approach and is totally unacceptable man. Post our batting innings itself, I guess Rohit was not 100% confident and we were completely on the backfoot. Only thing he hoped was to exert pressure straight up. For that, we had to start our bowling with a bang. But Australia scored 15 runs in the first over, they made Rohit make a move to get Shami in the 2nd over which impacted Siraj's contribution. We were already playing with 5 bowlers and hampering Siraj's ability with the new ball was just a masterstroke yaar, it was just like we were playing with 4 proper bowlers and defending a low score. Shami didn't look the same with the new ball, he was conceding lots of extras and Marsh thrashed him. So, this move impacted not only Siraj, but also Shami's performance. Had our first over went for under 5 runs, we'd have sticked to our plans and it'd have been a great fight from both Siraj and Shami. It was sad to see Rohit clueless and the lacking fire on the field was quite evident from the body language of the players. Poor guy, what else could he have done. Overall, it was a very sad day man. I don't have any words and I am just sad. I hope we comeback harder and win another ICC event soon, till then this loss will hurt big time man.

Australia world cup winning strategic principle from Sun Tzu's "The Art of War." Sun Tzu advised that when you are fully prepared and using your strength or force, it can be advantageous to appear inactive or unprepared. This tactic is meant to deceive the opponent, making them overconfident or careless, leading to their strategic missteps. It's about masking your capabilities and intentions to gain the upper hand in a conflict. This principle is widely recognized for its psychological and strategic depth in various competitive contexts, including military, sports, and business.
Australia behaviours in knockout stages =
Win at all cost and be aggressive, every games they are secrerly hiding their 8 hours training and game planning. Australia hides their hardwork, team india show off allot
"Aggressive" in simple language means behaving in a forceful, angry, or hostile way, often trying to dominate or hurt others.
As a back up they train everyone to be a Allrounder if emergency comes, top order, middle order, lower order, this is how you win the world cup. Our India team should not care about winning the world cup, indian teams needs to improve their training and game plan and never take their opponents lightly. Indian team already won so many World cups and ICC events, we don't need to be in fear of failure. Play fearless cricket everyday with planning, think about performance not about winning the world cup, be competitive buy stay humble and don't show off because it attracts competitors, talk less in interviews, never share your secrets in media, because your competitors are dangerous, treat every game seriously but also enjoy the game, winning lossing is unpredictability, unpredictability is part of life

    The reason why India lost:
    1. Pat Cummins did good homework on the pitch. When he won the toss, he knew what his plan was. The way the pitch was behaving under the sun, it wasn’t easy to bat after the powerplay.
    2. Sharma’s decision on bowling Siraj outside the powerplay was a big blunder. Siraj didn’t have any effect with the old ball.
    3. The fielding was a big difference. Australia fielded well and India didn’t.
Summary: When, Australia was at 46-3, India had a good chance to win. But Sharma’s blunder in bowling Siraj outside the powerplay and bowling Spinners very early and adding to it some poor fielding efforts costed it.

Captain Rohit Sharma is the main culprit of the debacle in the World Cup Finals.
When Shubhman Gill got out playing an unnecessary rash shot, Captain Rohit Sharma should have played cautiously.
But Rohit Sharma threw caution to the wind and played a stupid aerial shot and got out.
In the same over Rohit Sharma scored a boundary and a six.
What was the urgency to play another risky shot???
After India lost 3 Wickets Viral Kohli and the rest of the other batsman were under huge pressure.
Eventually the Batting succumbed to the pressure.
Captain Rohit Sharma should have known that India did not have any batting depth because they were playing with 5 bowlers.
Australia batted deep in their batting line-up.
240 run Target on a 300-320 pitch proved to be a easy cakewalk for Australia.
The Indian Bowlers lacked enthusiasm and all of them looked tired & jaded.
Their shoulders dropped and pressure affected their bowling.
To conclude India lost the match in the First 10 overs of their batting.

Although I am a huge Rohit sharma fan since thr beginning of his career but I think today his captaincy was absolutely nonsense especially how he gave his wicket away. He should have kept his coool and keep the rhythm going. And Secondly looking at Travis head Belting our bowlers it doesn't seem like it was a 240 run wicket. KL a$$hole Rahul just killed the momentum. Absolute joke of an innings he has played. I don't whether he was playing border gavaskar trophy or a world cup match. No intent of hitting or rotating the strike from him. We were just completely outplayed by an Australian side who are not even in contention. This is gonna sting us for a long time believe me. Our players mentality needs to be changed in big matches. If we get used to these defeats everytime then we will not win single ICC trophy after this.

    Here are the reasons
    1) Difference between India and Australia is the mindset. They are more professional, having a champ mindset and know they can win from any situation. Just think can India win in a situation where 1.5 lacs people are cheering for another team. Do they have what it takes to silence a crowd ? I know its not gonna happen as Indian team gets support across the globe but ponder on this once. I think this actually worked as a disadvantage as there was immense pressure to perform in front of home crowd. Shami, Bumrah giving extras as freebies and KL having the worst day as keeper all show pressure.
    2) Take Kohli and Rohit out of any playing 11 and the batting department will crumble , this is a hard fact , we don't have a Gambhir or Yuvi or even Dhoni to absorb pressure and bail us out.
3)Hardiks injury actually mattered on the big day. Bcci never found a replacement for him.All rounders are a gem to the team and they make a difference.
    4) stats are crap when it comes to actual performance in crunch situations, gill and siraj exemplify this and so does Head but in positive manner.
    5) HYPE by media and people , its a bit too much to celebrate even before actually winning and create that unnecessary expectations. Win it and then celebrate.
Looks like we lost our golden chance, there should be an overhaul of the team starting with the mentality, its the mentality, the attitude, the approach which is costing us the titles , we have talent but not the mentality.

      6) Even if you are a regular established player once you are out of form, you have to prove yourself and come back into the team. Here places are 'reserved' for certain players as long as they play without retiring. For example- if this was Australia, Kohli would have been dropped in 2020-2021 period where he was going through rough phase. Similarly kl Rahul for his 2021,22 poor form .They have ruthless mindset and won't show any mercy.

We still can’t find a proper fast bowler with handy batting skills 😞 hurts man 1.3 bln people and no allrounders

Gill, Shreyas, SKY and Siraj failed. Younger players just flopped! Coaching failure to prepare them mentally. India should put down the ego and HIRE AUSSIE ODI WC coaches.

I had hopes with Rohit and Kohli only remaining bachha players se I didn't had hopes. Rohit irresponsible shot, Virat getting out when it was time to accelerate and bad captainship was the reason for loss.

@@AO-xd2mlsiraj didn't flop he didn't even get enough overs , SKY didn't even get batting chances throughout the tournament but at the end of the day he was disappointing, and I don't have any idea how Gill became no 1 odi batsman

Reason 1) is the most hurtful. 1 boundary in 30 over is unacceptable in an ODI finals, especially against a team like Australia
