Your version of farmhouse is more reality then the manufactured J. Gaines style. Your house looks like my grandmothers farmhouse. Makes me remember memories that I forgot. Wonderful work.
I get weary of the “manufactured” farmhouse look, and the saddest part of it all is the manufactured farmhouse look usually is shipped here from China. True farmhouse items are old and repurposed mixed with a few select new things that fit the house. Also, true farmhouses have a lot of rooms, and I love that this farmhouse was not altered beyond recognition. It’s gorgeous.
I have to say, bringing in warm wood and more color reeeally cozies it up. But the floral pillows bring the entire look together! Such a small element, but it unites all the others. Gorgeous😁.
Victorians loved plants they would have them on plant stands. I think that would elevate your living room and you could bring in a bit of a library feel to your living room as well with some shelves or build in shelves with a roller ladder. Mirrors and pictures. heavy drapery. Victorians were known for what we would call clutter today but its just what was cozy for them.
There’s a phrase “ the heart wants what the heart wants” I think this is a case of “ the house wants what the house wants” so beautifully simple and cozy!

I started using pop in shower rods about a year ago..I love how easy they are to use. I am now getting rid of the wood horizontal blinds...all they do is collect dust and grime. The draw strings break easily..especially on my large and tall window. Curtains are easy to dust or wash if needed.
You have such an ease about your decorating. I’m a lover of blue and white. I have so many antique blue and white plates and platters. I’ve loved them for twenty years. Such a classic look. The floral pillows are so pretty for spring. Yellow is ALWAYS stunning with blue. My favorite kitchen was yellow and displayed my blue and white so well. I am a designer and although I like the bedroom in your last house, it never felt like a master bedroom. The bed over 20 years ago was 1000.00 so you did great on that. The dark woods are so lovely in old homes. It just incredibly warm. You may not of realized, by putting a pair of oil paintings on either side of the bed, you nailed it since the items on the night side tables is not symmetrical. You brought in balance by using the symmetry of the oil paintings. Yes, the night side tables work and I love love the antique mirror. It’s stunning. Love the top. It’s actually French. You are pulling together the collected look which is really a much more homey and elegant look. I really am so tired of seeing the same rooms on every single Chanel. You are going with your gut and you absolutely have natural talent. You did great. 👍😉
I’m just loving how this room turned out and I totally agree on the chair in the corner. It definitely needs something there. So beautiful and cozy yet it still feels very simplistic.
I love your home decor videos best of all! I have been waiting patiently for one of these! Please make more! I know you don’t want curtains to block the trim around the windows, but curtains would really help you to draw the eye up and make the room seem more balanced. One way to do that is to hang your rods high and wide, so that when you open them, they open past the trim. A light blue/gray curtain would be lovely. Also hanging your artwork above the nightstands higher will help balance the room too. The rule I have always heard is hang your art eye level. Just some thoughts! I love your room and all your colors and furniture! Beautiful.

Looking beautiful as always! I have been collecting antiques since the 6th grade--I mention that because over the years I found wonderful pieces from different eras. A "collected" look is the way to go so it doesn't get too theme-y and allows for flexibility. I imagine, in my head, that the "story" for my collection of things is a family who has been collecting and passing down pieces for years--hence the different eras. With that in mind, I have realized that if it is the same person doing the collecting and gravitating towards what they like, 9 times out of 10 all of the pieces will come together and make sense since the pieces were collected by one person--you definitely "see" that person's taste come through. Anyway---LOVE watching the progression/evolving of the various pieces you have found and put together!

Ok- a favorite of mine when selling repurposed furniture was wood tops with painted rest. Your bedside tables might blend with your other woods if sanded then given dark gel stain ( easy peasy). I also just bought a rice bed. I am also loving it. I love painted furniture too but I am also about getting back to warm wood tones in very light rooms. Yours is just beautiful.
I would add a hat box or basket on top of the wardrobe and an additional cozy rug between there bed and bathroom (goat or sheep), plus refinish the trunk and add a chunky knit throw blanket.. you could also switch up the art seasonally with framed family photos / kid art. Great concept!!

I live in Maine and around me there a lot of beautiful old houses (and some run down sad ones too....). I grew up in a house built in 1903 with a gorgeous giant maple tree out front. Someday it is my dream to own an old farmhouse again!

Lisa,I have pretty heart pine woodwork on my windows and I also use tension rods to let the woodwork show. Ours in this 1897 farmhouse is in original condition and to pretty to cover. Your room is gorgeous!
I really love your bedroom it is so calm and refreshing. I especially like the bed because I have one just like that . We bought the bed a month after we had our last child. Our son will be 29 this year. I'm still today loving my bed...
It just keeps getting better and better! My motto is If you like it, it will look great. If something in a thrift shop grabs your heart buy it. It will fit somewhere and it will go with your home because it will Show more of your personality. By the way, if you mix together a bottle of dark English Leather and a couple of bottles of baby oil you can wipe down dark furniture and it will look like NEW. Just wipe it on with a soft dry rag, let it sit a little while, then wipe it off real well. Presto-instantly refinished!
Dramatic curtains on each side of the window will help elevate the room. Or maybe hang your tension in the window half way down and shorten the curtain length. I love your home evolution. I am in a home that is completely different than our last. I keep putting off decorating because I need to “hear the house” and what it needs.

Beautiful room you are a wonderful decorator . I live in a true victorian built in 1890 and I have a similiar bed that I purchased back in 2001 from Bombay co. The pollsters look very similiar. With the tall ceilings what I have done is use some really large mirrors that go from ceiling to almost the floor it really accentuates the large space and looks right size to scale.
Beautiful! I love the warmth and the pops of color here and there. With curtains, we have beautiful trim in our house too (built around 1880) and didn't want to cover it, so we hung the rods where the curtain will come just to the top of the window, but the trim is still showing. Sort of the same concept as the tension rods, but I love that I can have some antique looking rods to kind of add another element of flair to the windows. I LOVE your throw pillows! If my hubby would go for them I'd have them everywhere...but he sees them as not a needed item. Can't wait to see how you did the curtains and pillows tho.

You might want to consider painting the nightstands the same shade of blue. Are the tops real wood that could be stained? Curtains in the same gold as the duvet cover would also be gorgeous. I made that mistake of trying to get furniture from our old house to suit our new house and you’re right it doesn’t always work. This is a much softer feminine romantic look for your bedroom now it’s lovely XX

That's a gorgeous armoire. I use tension rods in similarly trimmed windows for the same reason you do.
Yay for color! Love the natural wood - the four-poster bed and armoire are so beautiful! I am so glad that you didn't get rid of the dresser! It was my favorite piece from before the transformation. You might want to consider painting the nightstands the same shade of blue. Are the tops real wood that could be stained? Curtains in the same gold as the duvet cover would also be gorgeous. It's really coming together! ❤️

Love what you have done. The simple change of the handles on your nightstands - made a high differ and your right the old painted dresser now looks like it belongs.
I can't believe it's been a year it's gone quick . I love what you have done to the bedroom and I once had the same problem with furniture not looking right but you have nailed it . All the finishing touches like I light fitting etc really finish off yours and Lukes beautiful space well done

Oh so so pretty. So jealious. Wish my home were this big and country. Mine is small.maybe 1100 sq. Ft. Lovecthe tall ceilings and i love white linen curtains.they alwsys look so fresh to me
