Its 2021 and I still miss this place. They remodel the Cafeteria and the interior is beautiful. But man the food sucks and its too pricey now. I can still remember the smell of the taste of the gravy n smash potatoes. And chocolate banana cake and the chicken. My childhood memories. I'm 34 and I miss the Clifton Cafeteria.
My mom was talking about this place. When she first moved to LA she lived in a boarding house. No place to cook, so she had to eat out. No car, but public transportation was good and cheap. She ate here. Her mother and her grandparents wound up in LA too, and until they got situated, they lived in a boarding house and ate here a lot too. This was shortly after WWII. Mom remembers it as the place where you didn't have to pay if you didn't have any money, and if you have extra money, you can pay a little more. She remembers seeing people far worse off than herself. She brought me here when I was a little kid to experience it. Love the video. Feels surreal and trippy, especially paired with the music, like drifting through time. The jello is amazing. Mom's over 100 now. She doesn't remember the decor much, she says, because when she went there her mind was on food. You kind of take the decor for granted anyway during those days when you could visit the Alligator Farm and play with live alligators, or go to Bullocks and roam around an art deco masterpiece, or go to the movies and feel like you're in a palace.

I remember my mom had given birth to my brother when I was 7, it was 1976 and we had Thanksgiving Dinner at Clifton's just me and Dad because Mom was in the hospital recovering from childbirth.
Used to go there in the 60’s. Loved all the waterfalls and interesting things to look at. I haven’t seen the remodel and I don’t want to. I already know it has been ruined.
Met my wife there 37 years ago,,, when we used to work there as teenagers from high school. hope they’ll reopen for our 50 anniversary ,,,great video ,, bad music

The Cliftons the way I remembered it. Quick, affordable, and delicious. Sad to find out that it was bought out and renovated by some transplant Bostonian. BTW: This music track is horrendous, so out of place.
