You should do a different version showing this done one-handed while hanging(or under tension) as if you are really climbing. This is one of those knots YOU NEED TO KNOW IF YOU ARE EVER HANGING ON A ROPE. In an emergency, you usually only have one hand free to tie this and you need to get it tied now. Thank you for finally posting this. I forgot the name of this knot and it's not in my knot books, and I've been trying to remember it for 6 months.
Good stuff. I use a way like you start by winding it on your hand, but then end with a loop over one finger. Better than the old way I would do a loop in the middle.
I tied two different diameter ropes together in an overhand knot. Did the three loops with the knot in the middle. I took the knot and passed it through like the you did with the damaged part. It joined them in a strong union. My ropes were 3/8" and 1/2", not too dissimilar.
new to your channel, and recently started getting into paracord knots. your videos have been really helpful! do you have any recommendations for a tool for cutting paracord? I've found that no matter what I use (scissors, knife, razor blade, exacto knife), I always end up with really messy ends. Thanks!
Okay, “yes, but”… alpines are designed to take a load *perpendicular* to the direction of the line. The safer way of “fixing” damaged rope section and still keep the “length”is to cut at the damaged section, then tie each end into a scaffold (or barrel) knot around the other. The knot is strong enough to outlast the rope itself and designed to take a load that is *parallel* to the line.
