I'm watching all these documentaries on the Columbus neighborhoods. I have never visited the city and don't even know anyone there but these are great documentaries!

I worked on a loading dock back in the late seventies, and one of the drivers lived in German village. I went on deliveries with him and I stayed at his house overnight. He took me on a tour of the neighborhood next day. It was beautiful. It was early in the restoration, but there were plenty of beautiful buildings.

As a former resident of "the village", it's nice to take a tour of this wonderfully restored area. What an asset to the community!

My family moved into 533 Southlane behind Bobb Chevrolet in December 1952. I got to grow up in the German Village neighborhood and my friends lived in some of those wonderful brick homes built so close together we could crab walk up to the roof between them. My three siblings and I attended Beck Street Elementary School and have many memories of that school, some fond and some not. Watching the freeway come through alongside Livingston Avenue was quite an exciting thing for us. There was a scrap man who lived a couple houses down from us who would go through the houses to be torn down and retrieve the lead plumbing and iron window weights. We moved farther south to Welch Ave. in 1965 where we attended Barrett Junior High and South High School.

Used to live in the village back in the 90s, on s 3rd a few houses down from katzingers.... this film brings back a lot of memories- Pat Phillips in the vid was my landlord. A week or so after we moved in, Fred an Howard invited
us to a party at their place above the Frau.... it was a great place to live back then

Kevin, we are very happy you enjoy the series. Earlier this year, WOSU announced six more Columbus Neighborhood documentaries will be produced. The first will focus on the South Side and premiere Sept. 16, 2013 at 8 pm. A few months later, a documentary on Clintonville will air. The next phase also includes Bexley, the Tri-Villages (Grandview, Upper Arlington and Marble Cliff), Worthington and New Americans, which focuses on the immigrant experience in Columbus.

In 1961, '62, I was an engineering representative on the RA-5C program at North American Aviation. Worked with some great people there, including one in particular, Harry Vollmer, who I believe was a Columbus native. He knew German Village well, and I have great memories of going there with Harry for lunch in (or near) Schiller Park.

I liked German Village as a kid. I like Schiller Park and the brick roads. I'm a southender. Never could afford to live there.

We lived on South 17th St and then Hanford. As a kid I used to think the hill at Schiller park was so big, lol.

My all-time fav apt was on Lazelle. Although; I don't think I could get it back again for less than $1500 a month. I was paying $325 in '94.

Let's give blame where blame is due: it was Westerville's Anti-Saloon League that raised power politics to an art form and ushered in Prohibition. The Brewery District and Westerville were polar opposites in one of the most important movements in American history. The Anti-Saloon League didn't care whether politicians actually drank but only whether a politician would vote their way, and they used the power of the printing press to inform their members about renegade politicians. Because the Anti-Saloon League no longer exists, and perhaps also because Westerville is not one of the major power centers in the U.S., it's easy at this distance to underestimate the League's importance in American history. Here's a family story: a State Department employee who grew up in Columbus was setting up a trade show in the Soviet Union when he was approached by one of the locals who had one question about America: "Have you heard of a place called Westerville?" The State Department guy was very curious why Westerville would be more interesting to this Soviet citizen than other, more famous places in the U.S. Turns out that he had been the Latvian representative for the Anti-Saloon League and he remembered receiving massive amounts of mailings from the home office in Westerville.

In World's Force Two we fought the Danes and Germany wouldn't wear that. The Kitzmillers knew about Volkswagon which was the code for the catholic church to control Germany. They also as the German Police shot Marcus Bowers. They dont like family being refered to the police cause thats how the Triads got started.
