I have two donkeys. Using come-a-long hitch is a game changer!! Working on “walk on” and “woah”. They did really well today.

I have taught them to walk to the other side of the stall so I can muck it out every morning. I point in the direction I want them to go and wait quietly. Usually within about 30 seconds, they decide to go to the other side. I am really enjoying working with them.

I had no idea donkeys had to be trained, and this guy is being so gentle with his donkey. Hope it all works out.

I don't know how I found myself here, I guess I like donkeys and that's enough.

Thank you....You can tell he is very smart, especially when it comes to self preservation.

I think this is going to be a great donkey with lots of heart. Once he forms a bond with his wrangler and understands who's in charge there's probably nothing he won't do.

As a first time donkey owner, I so appreciate these videos! This is exactly what I need in the attempt I’m making to tame a little year-old jenny, who is adjusting to life with sheep and goats. It’s all an experiment and so far, so good. “Donkey time” is working!

I assume they are far different from horses as far as taming them, and I don't know much about either, but why don't you get him used to and trusting you first, before putting him in a corner with ropes, etc?

I guess I'm lost. What is the purpose of locking him in a small space inside the gate?

I have a 5 month old Jenny and a 7 year old rescue Jenny. The baby is easy to works with but the older one I can brush, pet everywhere except her head which she turns way away from me. How can I work on getting her to look at me and approaching her head without her being afraid?

It was refreshing to see how gentle you were with Snort;) Thank you for sharing with us. I am doing research, for myself, I really want a donkey. I have an acre & a 1/2, on hilly terrain, south-western P.R./Borike. I have been planting a food forest, most of my trees are approximately 8’ tall. I am thinking I will need the forest to grow a few more years before I introduce 2 donkeys. Any advice on donkey care & a reputable donkey dealer, especially if the dealer is on the island. Thank you in advance & be safe;)

What Impressed me the most about a donkey, is when I seen a donkey on TH-cam grab a hyena by the back of the neck to teach it a lesson, never knew they were that tough and the donkey look like it was not even full grown

When you have put time in on him and advanced him to usefulness, will he ever be dependable or will he always want to be wild again?

Thank you for your quality content! I have never owned a donkey but have a dream to rescue some when I can afford a ranch property here in Northern Nevada.

just curious how much open pasture time you did before using the gate? I've only done open pasture, and it's always worked. Just my opinion that the gates sets up guaranteed recipe for panic, fight or flight mode

i want to be perfectly clear, I'm absolutely NOT knocking your video OR your process, I've just always had "whispering" success in an open environment.

I am rescuing a couple of donkeys a lot like this right now, so this was so helpful. I have one that even though she has been fed and watered in the chute, she panics when locked in there, so I think I need to back up and just work on round pen and gentling for a couple more weeks until I try to get a rope on her in the chute later. At least mine don't try to rush us like that. They respect our space pretty well by now. But this reminds me to be really cautious when leaving or entering the pen.

I just got two new donkeys and I’ve never had donkeys before so if you have any tips for beginners I would love to hear it, The donkeys I have have been around people but they’re just not used to me, I think the mom is just over practice because she has a daughter and she’s pregnant right now and I don’t know if I should wait until she has the baby to start getting along with her or after she has the baby she’s three months pregnant, so any tips?

    • @mountainridgegear8172
      @mountainridgegear8172  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

There’s no reason to wait. Start interacting with her now. Get her used to your presence and your touch. Your goal now is to put her at ease when she’s around you and get her to the point where she wants to interact with you.
