McKenzie is a talented player but that smirk he did while kicking was a bit creepy. That said, I hope the Chiefs will get their mana back next year with the new coach.
But one thing about mackensie, and I am not really a fan of him. One thing. His tackling became better, he doesnt let them slip away anymore. And for the smirk, it is part of his concentration.
As a Scot, I really know what it must be like to be a chiefs fan at the moment

I thought the chiefs would be unstoppable with Gatland at the helm but so much for that idea...
They started well in the regular season to be fair, but he's been totally exposed over the last few weeks.
@WRU286 I hope that's the case and they'll start bouncing back next season. I've only been able to watch the highlights and not the full games but their defense looks pretty poor at the moment.
@WRU286 some questions have to be asked though, not least about how much Gatland's record with Wales was built on the work of Shaun Edwards and others around the head coach. Gatland supposedly masterminded the transformation of Wales from RWC 2007 washouts to 2008 6 Nations Grand Slam winners in just his first year; how then to explain the manner in which he's turned an uneven but occasionally brilliant Chiefs side into a hapless, toothless punching bag, reminiscent of their worst years in the early 2000s? As for the NZ teams not being fit enough to play defensive rugby, that's hogwash; they're conditioned differently in NZ, with more emphasis on athleticism and skill than bulk and power, that's all. You can argue the relative virtues of one regimen or the other but the fact is while Wales enjoyed some fine results under Gatland's stewardship they were also woeful at times, had poor overall records against England, the ABs, Australia and SA, were quite predictable and easily blunted on attack, never made it to a WC final and frequently blew tight contests through either very basic errors or an inability to adapt their gameplan. In the slower, more attritional and lower-skilled arena of NH rugby, Gatland's methodical bulldozer tactics yielded him and his Welsh teams a certain amount of results, but in the higher-tempo, higher-skill SH competition his playbook would seem to be lacking enough spark or subtlety to provide a winning formula.
Formakiwi that’s a revisionist view of Gatland’s tenure that does not really match up to the results. Gatland won how many GS? How many 6N?
@@Formakiwi couldn't agree more. Wales winning the six nations 3 times with Gatland (2013 Howley was in charge so doesn't count) was based on Shaun Edwards ability to consistently orchestrate a defence, not down to Gatlands coaching ability (none) which has been found out at the Chiefs.
I criticized Mackensie a few ago about bad tackling. However, must say that the past two weeks he really made some good efforts against some really big guys. Difference is he did not let them slip away, he hold them. Glad to be corrected by him.☝️👍

Honestly, I wish Super Rugby would stay like it's now.. the Aoteraoa tournament is probably the best Rugby competition I've seen in over a decade.. almost every game is a ripper and even the losing Chiefs aren't playing that bad. I feel like the AU and SA teams have somehow watered SuperRugby down..their teams just aren't the same level as NZ teams.. I'd like to continue to see national tournaments and maybe a playoff with the best teams of all three regions (SA/ARG, AU, NZ) combined. Cheers from a german Rugby fan 🇩🇪🍻🇳🇿
Some of the SA teams can compete well. Stormers Sharks and Bulls never tend to roll over easy. Lions were finalists 3 years in a row fairly recently. On the the other hand tackling seems to be optional for Aus sides and their set piece is always schoolboy-esque at best so they get walloped. Tahs were the sole exception but that changed when Izzy left
'watered down Super Rugby' thats some arrogant talk mate irregardless of where you from or how old are you. Obviously derbies are gonna be intense in comparison and style of play will differ, but to insult other nations like that bro. The Crusaders are the only NZ team who dominate and the others are competitive
@@soundscapemusic8980 ..sure, the SA teams were quite good too..but I think there must be a reason why they haven't won a SR-title in the last decade.. I think maybe SA teams would be better off joining Pro14 in Europe (like Cheetahs and Sth.Kings), would be preferable regarding the time zone, too..

Having lived in Te Awamutu for a while I really feel for the Chiefs but fair is fair the Canes deserved the win.
Didn't even think the Hurricanes did anything fancy to win that game. Did the basics right shows exactly what the Chiefs were lacking. Basic skills were out the window for the Chiefs
Feel so bad for chiefs n fans...for sam too...hope it's not so bad...it could go either way because canes weren't playing that good too...but the finishing....it's same as landers, my team! Better luck next time guys!

It's a fair question… here's my view. By the numbers … #8 has a forward #5 running beside him but elects to pass to a back #15 coming up behind. #5 keeps his line moving forward as #15 goes past him and well wide (as the broadcast front-on replay shows). A defender coming across but not in a position to tackle #15 runs into #5. Players run into players in general play all the time. Play on.
