Had a horse for sale once that the vet made note that he was a bit fractious mentally. He was right (coyote SOB) but I wasn't expecting a shrink to show up I thought they just looked at the physical end of it. I was a bit annoyed but the horse sold anyway. A good vet will look at the mentality also. At one time saved myself $10,000.00 by paying for $500.00 worth of xrays on a navicular horse. I was told by one of my mentors that if they are over $5,000.00 you xray the fronts from the knee down if under $5,000.00 you wing it. That was 25 years ago before inflation of today. They all cost the same to feed once you own them. Good advice Bret.

I always offer test drives/trials/crash test dummy services in hopes of helping people find a good horse along with my training ads. Never had anyone take me up on the offer, despite me pointing out the money and or injury that could be saved. That being said the vast majority of horses I ride are horses bought a couple few months back or last year that the owner couldn't get along with...

Hey, I hear you talk about the difference in horses today versus horses of your youth and before. Like how center fire saddles don’t fit modern horses and how you don’t run into difficult horses like you did in the past. Do you think you could expound on that some time while you are already drinking beer and yakking anyway? I’m not that young but I haven’t been involved with horses as closely as you so I haven’t really seen the changes.

@@HorsemanshipAsAnArt I think I found one here today. Calving season just starting, can always use an extra one around. I'm in Alberta . There's a few good ones here. Will put him to work tomorrow and find out if he's any good I guess.

@@KN-ff5rn Good deal. I hope calving in Alberta is easier this year than calving in Nevada, lotta these places lost a ton of calves. Tell Canada I said hi
