    ROUND 8… 7’s
06… Manchester Orchestra - A Black Mile To The Surface (2017)… It was in the lower reaches of my ten, so I obviously like it… 4*…
05… Gene - Drawn To The Deep End 4* … I am more than aware how deeply you feel for this album, it does not affect me the same way… 4*…
04… REM - Document (1987)… Most of their albums are good, I placed this top five during your REM ranker… 4.25*
03… Radiohead - In Rainbows (2007)… I’m never going to be the biggest Radiohead fan, still a good album though... 4.5*…
02… David Bowie - Heroes (1977)… I like Bowie but he’s never been one of my all timers… The Berlin trilogy are all very good albums, my personal pick would be ‘Low’… 5*…
01… The Kinks - Something Else (1967)… This only took #5 on my deep dive but it is still a 5* album, it was a tightly fought year but ‘Sgt. Pepper’ & ‘VU & Nico’ just beat it out by the slimmest of margins… 5*…
    From my first placings…
06… The Verve - Urban Hymns ... (1997)... Probably their best album and more to my taste than Radiohead… 4.5*…
05… OMD - The Punishment Of Luxury (2017)… I had to have another look at 2017… How can a band that I loved in the early 80’s have my #1 position in 2017, thirty odd years later… Well I looked and it only confirmed that indeed ‘The Punishment Of Luxury’ is my top choice… 4.5*…
04… ELO - Out Of The Blue (1977)… I always sneakily liked ELO in the 70’s but it wasn’t until the 90’s when they took their place as one of my favourite bands… 5*
03… The Coral - Roots & Echoes (2007)… Music At Night ... Probably my favourite Coral album, I don’t believe it contains any of my ten favourite songs though… 5*…
02… The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967)… This was not a clear winner, it was close between my top three; ‘Something Else’ & ‘Sgt. Pepper’ could have easily got the nod but I reckon that VU would get more of my air time… 5*
01… David Sylvian - Secrets Of The Beehive (1987)... Sylvian is my favourite solo artist of all time, I don’t love all that he has recorded though and some of it is out of my league, especially his more proggy offerings… The difference between the prog that I am not keen on and Sylvians work is David’s rich baritone… I never tire of David’s best work whether solo, Japan, Rain Tee Crow, Nine Horses or the many collaborations that include the likes of Holger Czukay, Ryuichi Sakamoto & Robert Fripp… Usually when I get fed up with music, then that is when I turn to Sylvian… Excellent songwriting, the highest quality music and musicianship but it always comes back to David’s voice… David Sylvian is as close as I get to religion… 5*
    R8… 80s… 6pts, 60’s… 5pts, 00’s… 4pts, 70’s… 3pts, 10’s… 2pts, 90’s… 1pt …
    AFTER R7… 80’s… 35pts, 90’s… 31pts, 70’s… 31pts, 00’s… 21pts, 60’s… 20pts, 10’s… 09pts …
    RUNNING TOTAL
    1st 80’s… 41pts,
    1st 70’s… 34pts
    3rd 90’s… 32pts,
    4th 60’s… 26pts,
    5th 00’s… 25pts,
    6th 10’s… 11pts …

@@ste.6026 I liked Japan a lot, so I should check out David Sylvian's solo work when I have a bit of time. 🤔

@@tokyochuchu 'Brilliant Trees' 1984 & 'Secrets Of The Beehive' 1987 would be my advised starting points but it may be that even if you should like what you're hearing, other albums may suit better... Don't expect much in the way of upbeat... Expect a lengthier than usual write up on your Japan deep dive!!!... Busy yesterday, hence late post... 🙂
