First, thank you for your service Marine. Secondly, both of my sons are Marines. My oldest son took his A school training at 29 Palms, as a Ground Radio Tech (MOS 2841). I visited him a few times. Went camping and hiking with him in Joshua Tree. A friggin' rattlesnake made its way to the 2nd floor once! Turtles apparently piss themselves to death if approached. Crazy.
when i went to train in intell we had to use the navy barracks, marine barracks were being fixed each room had common area and individual room, the rooms were pretty nice. Moving NCO's into the barracks cramps it bad, when i was in Okinawa cpl's had to double up, some sgt's too, but he SNCO barracks were virtually empty. AC's our barracks manager wouldn't turn off the heat till half way through summer and vice versa in the winter, arine life does suck but damn i miss it lol

I hear recon is really boring. So if you went into marine infantry looking for action recon I HEAR is not the way to go, but like everyone says. No matter where you go a lot of your time spent is boring and hard.
some barracks have had cameras for a while, I believe the stipulation has been not in the rooms themselves just in common areas like halls and lounges.
The fact with the duel suicide and then the cameras is gonna make them even more paranoid and worried that their nearly just so annoyed about not getting away from people you can see to now getting watched on camera i think this will make more events like to one talked about with duel suicide.
What the Marine Corps needs, is Project SLAM! Single Living Accommodation Modernisation, this has been going on in the UK for probably 10 years, they're methodically tearing down the 1930's/40's barracks buildings, where you had 8 in a room, and replacing them with single rooms, so everyone has their own room, with an en suite bathroom. The accommodation is actually quite nice!

Well sounds like the marines are now getting the shaft as much if not more than the army. We had cameras but idk if they cut the video games and tv for CQ duty

Before I got out we couldn't have any kind of entertainment in the duty hut except for Marine Corps related material (books from the commandants reading list). But when I did get duty I hoped it was BN duty driver, the best form of duty imo.
G'day Devil, with all the issues with personnel within the US Armed Forces, I would like to question the Psychometric Testing methods that the Army and Marines use. From what I can see this method does not appear to be "selecting" the crazies from the normal recruits. Have never come across these issues here in Australia, nor have we ever had mulitple homicides within our own ADF. What do you think of your processes?

Hey Devildoggamer, I am now a marine poolee and I'm having a hard time staying motivated to get fit. I was wondering what you did to keep up your motivation before and after boot?
No one can give you that motivation you need to want it. It has to come deep down within yourself. What motivates you??? When you get to boot camp if you're not mentally ready and mentally fit you will just be weeded out or staying on the Island much longer than 3 months. For instance during one of my PT runs I had to puke and I went to stop and puke and all of sudden behind me comes one of my DI's grabs me and says puke while you're running don't stop. Thats exactly what I did and I finished my 3 miles in 21 minutes. Not my best time but I was motivated and mentally fit. Boot Camp will get you physically fit but it will not get you mentally fit. You need to be mentally fit to be a Marine. Good Luck
DDG yesterday i broke my arm and it deformed and i did not cry. It was broken without a cast for 10 hours until we got into the emergency room. do you think I could be a marine some day?

The RoF on the AK-12 is 680rpm on full auto, but it's closer to 1000rpm on burst.
