The one and only and still sounds very healthy. Good work ZCG!

not used for street driving and ripped-down for freshening every so often- these aren't "throwaway" motors.

Absolutely amazing. I need my ‘71 or ‘72 510 wagon screaming like this 🤣
I really wish I could be with that thing in person. Peak 510!

put a V6 in it. a VG30 will go in there without any cutting. you'll have to upgrade the springs, final drive and axle, too. some guys use the mini-truck axles but if youre serious, you want eaton or dana/spicer. there's a wagon that runs exhibitions around LA that does wheelies and 10-second quarters. i think its a SR20DET and the guy has some kind of beefy rear axle and a five-bar link rearend. they wouldn't let anyone look under the hood- sounded like an SR motor.

i'm guessing about 125hp at the wheels- which is truly optimistic.

Damn I love the way that sounds. You are the goat when such a gem is sent from afar, because you alone have the passion and knowledge. Killer. 🤘🔥😎🔥🤘

People, in this case from GA, send him cars from far away, spending extra because this dude and his team are the best with these and other old Nissans. I mean it’s pretty self explanatory if you know who owns that car and who this shop is owned by.

Listen up youngsters, that's what a real N/A L18 racer sounds like. Makes an old school dude like me all goose pimply hearing #46 wound up at 10K.That car is my Japanese Super Hero.

an L18 with L16 rods and the short Z20E pistons would make a great, long-track turbo motor.

@@tommurphy4307 The biggest problem doing a turbo on an L series is it's not a cross flow head. The intake and exhaust are on the same side, so heat sink is a major issue. Maybe a side saddle blower with fuel injection and throttle body plate would work better, but definitely not as easy. There are stroked L20s with 42mm side drafts making 230 hp NA, but they're $16K. 🙃

It’s #46, but it’s still the one and what a sound! Pete Brock says that’s his favorite noise.

the bigger L20B/Z22-based strokers have a really deep tone and sound even better- and gobs more torque.

Man I need mine to sound like that. Is that a 1600 or a 1800? And what did it end up putting down?

they were allowed to run L18s with a modest weight penalty. like the old b sedan or gt4 class in scca. figure about 150hp L16 at the flywheel and about 180hp L18 ditto. the driveline will drag out some (15-30%) of that power. i think they had to run 44s but the trick is to do it with the largest chokes possible- meaning they have to be fabricated. we did that with our d-production roadster.

    7800 rpm!

stock L16s with fresh valve springs can pull to 7000rpm, but thats a mouse-nipple motor. L18s can do it with about 5mm more stroke (79mm) and they breathe better due to their larger bore (85mm) meaning less eyebrowing around the intake valves (especially the 44mm intakes). if that is a big difference- imagine what could be done with a 92mm stroke!
