Much of my hiking experiences here in the Pacific Northwest have been in dense forests. Really enjoyed seeing the wide open spaces of the Uintas in the video though. Very different feel to it. Also really appreciate the camaraderie, the light-hearted and respectful communications you all shared.
I have backpacked the Uintas my whole life. They are a part of my soul. It’s fun to listen to you guys admire the views. Glad you got to experience them. I feel fortunate they are in my backyard. Glad you got over your altitude sickness. Had a friend get pulmonary adema a few years back at only 10,200 up there. The Uintas don’t mess around. Weather gets nasty real quick too! Fun to hear the T cracks, keeps you on your toes. Ha ha! I need to get my Arc Haul ordered! Thanks for the video.
What a storm, thunder, lighting, hail. Glad you guys found shelter. Awesome views from ridgeline. Thanks for taking us along on this hike in Utah. Loving the views.
Hi! Love your vids! At ~15:06 you mentioned you like to pitch your Duplex 'extra high' because it lifts the walls up more, what height are you setting your poles? Thanks!
Dude, looks like a blast. You need to talk to Joe about bringing a customer along. Anyone who purchased a pack or shelter the previous year is entered to win a hike with Joe and Will expenses paid except for transportation. I might buy a pack each year and give them as gifts just to win. You guys look like you are having fun. Great video!
Great idea! The cool thing is all of us were customers who just met Joe and Matt and they invited us on hikes. Now we are all friends and hike together on most of our hikes.
Thanks! All I do is raise the trekking poles close to 50” to 52” in height and then tighten everything up from there. You can raise it as high as you want as long as the doors are still able to zip up. Really makes it seem more spacious having the walls lifted even higher.
We used to sell them on our website but they have since been discontinued. It’s called the Pointy Hat you can probably find one second on the internet. It’s a staple for Joe.

Wow that lightening was wicked! Nothing is more frightening than a thunderstorm on an open bald, especially at elevation. Great video.

That sure is the Uintas. Thunder, lightning and hail. Things are different at such a high elevation.

Hey Redbeard!!! Wondering if you could answer a few questions about your hike of the Uinta Highline Trail??

Rule #1 when lightening is within 10 miles and hiking in an exposed area: LAY DOWN until it passes.
