Any vocal group on Earth that had Tony Williams as their lead singer was destined to reach immortality. His was simply the most thrilling voice of that era, with Jackie Wilson not far behind.
THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH FOR THIS WONDERFUL PIECE OF THE PLATTERS HISTORY. I WONDER HOW MANY BABIES WERE CONCEIVED AT THE BACK OF CARS WHILE THE PLATTERS WERE ON THE CAR RADIO.
The Platters were an amazing singing group. The original lineup released some of the best and most amazing music of all time. Despite all of the legal problems and multiple line ups in later year's, the recorded legacy stands as a document of this great music.
My old babysitter loved the Platters , especially "Twilight Time" . She played their LP's a lot while I was at her house . I'm in my 60's now , so thanks for uploading this blast from the past .
1975 they played at Latitude 20 in Torrance Calif. I booked a table for 10 for every night they were there 7 nights.. Was the best week in my life. I met each one of them. One of my Big memories
What happened? The lead singer died. The others either retired or they joined a second Platters group with lead singer Sonny Turner. As time passed the original remaining members kept aging, eventually retired and died.
Tony Williams ...Roy Hamilton... Jackie Wilson...Sam Cooke...4 of the greatest male voices I've heard. But The Platters earned their title under Tony Williams..." THE GOLDEN VOICES "
While all the members were great singers, I think adding Zola Taylor really propelled them to fame. She had a great voice and she was beautiful! Everything else is just gravy!
Ladies and gentlemen this is why the oldies music from the 50's 60's 70's right up to the 90's are being listened to not just from the old but the young millennials who find nothing interesting in the music from 2000 right down to now check the numbers you'll be stunned and pleased
Are you familiar with Van Presley? He was a member during the late 60's(?) - early 70's. He was on his own by 1978 when I met him. He was a wonderful man and had a fabulous voice. He sounded a lot like Lou Rawls, and I would always tell him so. Lost touch with him when my husband and I moved. Found out a few months ago that he had passed away, and had been performing on Cruise Ships. Rest in Peace Van.
Even though member David Lynch is in most of the original "Platters" group images, you never mentioned his name. I loved all of their recordings with Lead Tony Williams and the later ones with Sonny Turner ("I love you 1000 times). Rest in peace all.
Yep, I noticed that as well. Mr. Lynch was and still is heavily overlooked. His lead songs are very good, and he gave The Platters a rock and roll sort of twang with his voice cracks and repetition of words. His pronunciation was also noticeably different. You can sort of hear his southern accent come through at certain words. People fail to understand the talent of every member of The Platters. They had their own attributes that made what The Platters are. Reed's bass, Robi's baritone, Taylor's high pitched voice, and both Williams and Lynch's tenor voices.
Thanks for the Memories by Lynch was a classic. He had a great voice but when you’re in a group with the greatest voice (Tony Williams) you won’t make much headway.
You have a very interesting channel. Please consider covering ‘The Fifth Dimension’. Also another fantastic vocal group from that time was ‘ Spanky & Our Gang’, they each had many amazing songs.
For many of us that are not from that era if you don't put the names with the faces when you're explaining the story we have no idea who you're talking about.
Wow! Who the heck are you? This is the closest to accurate of anything on the internet with the exception that Herb Reed was still in the Army when the group started. They were a group of teenagers in the beginning who were replaced by guys in their their mid- to-late 20s before the hits started (with the exception of Zola who was 14). Very well researched.
I HAVE MET THE PLATTERS, I TALKED TO THE BASS PLAYER HE SAID ZOLA GOT MARRIED TO A WHITE GUY. THIS MAY BE JUST A RUMBER, THERE HAS BEEN OVER 400 SINGERS IN THE BAND OVER THE YEARS.

💯 percent right!!!
THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH FOR THIS WONDERFUL PIECE OF THE PLATTERS HISTORY.

As a teenager in the late 1950's the song My Prayer was always on the radio. It marked a generation.

Timeless romantic songs beautifully performed.
After winning a court case, Herb Reed remarked, "It's twilight time for the great pretenders."

How could Twilight Time be a old song, since Buck Ram wrote it?
Real talent real class
Imagine hollywood making all these useless remakes ,we have so much untouched material stories that need to be told ❤
For many of us that are not from that era if you don't put the names with the faces when you're explaining the story we have no idea who you're talking about.
