This has been my dream camera for a year and, not gonna lie, once the 90V started being reviewed I started looking at stores and doing some math.
Let me be clear: I absolutely do not need this, and financially it makes zero sense for me to get it.
But it's so good, and perfect for me. I absolutely love the fact that it doesn't do video.

I was with you up till the end. Your last sentence makes no sense. If it does everything you need for taking the photographs you want, then whether or not it takes videos should have no relevance to you. To be clear, I'm not suggesting that anyone try doing videos on medium format cameras, but I just can't understand the mindset of not wanting a feature that you may end up needing in the future or that may add to your resale value in the future.

@@falxonPSN If it did video, it means they would have invested in that feature. Either it would be more expensive, or its other capabilities would be lesser. It's a shame that so few companies make cameras dedicated to stills nowadays.

Not everything is about financial sense. Most bad photography decision is based on what buyers think makes financial sense. You aren’t an accountant. You are a photographer. If the world makes financial sense then we would buy the cheapest food out there. Buy the cheapest cars and living in a box. As a person who used to work at a camera store dealing with people whose whole world is about financial sense, they can’t understand the level they really want to be. That’s your goal as an artist who wants to be the photographer you want to be. Besides you’ll end up spending even more on accessories to make your shots better and better

@@ChrisM-yq2pq Well, justified or not, I was prudent and decided to get the two lenses I needed before buying the body. I received the first just fine, but had to camp the Hasselblad store for months for a chance to buy the second... and they didn't send it to me. They put another tracking number in there to make it seem like my order had been fulfilled. Took two months of them being super evasive and they issued a refund (which I specified I didn't want, I just wanted the lens that I bought). So I have given up on getting into this system.

OK my 2 cents :). A larger sensor does not mean more the X2D captures more light or that it has more dynamic range. The physics are more closely tied to the pixel pitch/well depth and related factors. The actual pixels of the X2D and A7RV sensors are the same size (3.76 microns) In your test if you take the A7RV shot with a more recent lens like the 50mm/1.2 or 135mm 1.8 and apply lens corrections in LightRoom you will see that the colour fringing issues don't exist. The images in real life scenarios are virtually indistinguishable. If you download Manny Ortiz's shots in the same studio setup with the A7RV and X2D - you'll be surprised how identical they look. The out of camera colour is slightly better on the X2D but it's easily corrected on the A7RV. You also have the 85mm at 1.4 where it has more imperfections. If you put that 85mm up to 2.5 like you have on the 90 those imperfections start to disappear. On the web / social media - impossible to tell apart. Even in print these images you can't tell them apart. The X2D will have slightly more detail only when you look at it in photoshop / lightroom and zoom in. Because the focusing is superior on the Sony you're still at an advantage in image clarity / hit rate. Resolution is nothing if your image is out of focus. X2D focusing is still not that good. If you are shooting still objects like a ship you can shoot with the pixel shift option of they A7RV and you still win with the Sony. DOF of the 2.5 on the 90mm is kinda like a 2.0 on a 70-85mm - still not better. Speaking on the A9III - just bought 2 of them - phenomenal instrument - both for photo and video. For 99% of my work (including commercial, glamour, boudoir etc) I never need more than 24MP. When I do - I pull out the A7RV. The body and minimalist design of the X2D is beautiful - I've used it many times. On another note - recall the 2019 article of Steve Huff comparing the X1D II to the A7RIV - honestly couldn't believe how convinced people that the Hasselblad is better. The A7RIV looked great. It was shot with a 24-70 zoom (MK1) in the test. If that was shot with a more recent prime (like the Hasselblad) it would have looked virtually indistiguisable. The one major advantage over the A7RV is the leaf shutter for higher flash sync - that's the "one reason" I may still buy one LOL :). Unless Sony come out with a 60 MP Global Shutter camera with a lesser frame rate at the same price as the Hasselblad :).

First, love you guys, big fan. With the a9 iii people are saying you can sync your strobes at all shutter speeds like you can with leaf shutters while not using HSS.
However, strobes can’t put out 100% of their power at 1/4000th let alone 1/80,000th. You’re going to be limited to the light output speed of your strobes. Which will then reduce the amount of useable light from your strobes. Some strobes are faster than others but usually that also means more expensive.
I feel like this should be talked about more. I could see some people making some very costly mistakes if not aware of this. Tony, you love the geeky nerdy stuff. Seems right up your alley to explain this to your viewers.

I think dynamic range around 12~13 is very adequate especially considering most display monitors in the world are around 8 stops with less than 1% offering 10 Stops or greater (and these are neither cheap nor readily available.). Expose properly and most things will nicely fall into place regarding.

Hi, great video, but the price!! Well, maybe there's a way to get around that.......
I was agonising whether to go from my 500 CM with a CVF50 digital back to an XCD2 set up. Here in the UK the camera and lens will set you back £11,500 (ish!). As you point out in the video, that's a lot to pay out - even if the results are spectacular. So, there I was in the local Liverpool camera shop and looking in the used sales display there was an early XCD1 with a mint 30mm lens. The camera cost £2,200 and the lens about the same. Now then, I thought - at that price I could buy it just to play with and trade it in for an upgrade if I got on with it. I probably wouldn't lose much on the deal. I thought about it overnight and went back the next day to find they were in the sale. The camera was reduced to £1675.00 and the lens to £2005.00. Guess what happened next.... I went around Albert Dock here in Liverpool taking photos of the Liver and the Cunard buildings as well as the docks. When I pulled up the images in Phocus I was blown away. My word, the images were stunning and the 30mm lens was perfect for capturing the architecture. So I suggest that if you would like to have stunning medium format images but can't stretch to a brand new XCD2, there are XCD1's coming on the market at really affordable prices and although they may be 50 MP instead of 100 MP - take it from me, you will get mind-bendingly beautiful images at prices less than a new full frame DSLR. If you buy from a reputable dealer (like the one you promote) I don't think you can go wrong. I'm more than happy to continue as is and wait for used XCD2's to come on the market. Keep up the great videos!

I agree this is the dream setup!! As always fantastic video, you guys are amazing! But the 85 mm is not a very sharp lens for comparison (in fact some portrait photographers like it because it is somewhat soft/forgiving), probably a better comparison would be the 90 mm macro, which is one of the sharpest lenses, would've actually been a more accurate one.

It can be. Personal preference. While one portrait photographer is seeking as much sharpness as possible, the other one is busy smearing vaseline on his lenses.
And of course it also depends who you're shooting. Sharp images can reveal flaws that some people would prefer not be visible. Quite a few models absolutely hate super sharp images, and it may take some fancy editing to get the results that you want, especially if you want some parts of the picture sharp and others softer.

I shoot with my left eye so using the touchscreen to find AF points was a no go, and I don't want to depend on the company's brand new face-detect AF for critical focus. It's too bad. Kind of hard to compete with Hasselblad with lenses that have a leaf shutter and autofocus. You’d have to convince people it’s worth buying over them and the price difference makes enough sense with multiple lenses. When you buy at this level, I’m pretty sure most people aren’t budget shopping for a lens that is sort of like a Hasselblad but is Hasselblad. It’s not like Leica where the price is similar to Leica lenses. Voigtlander 7artisans ttartisans etc can make headways as budget alternatives but to do this at medium format levels where there are fewer owners of hasselblads and most are pros doing pro work is not people who cheap out. You got to go into this system knowing you will be spending tons of money on lenses and hoping to get some used ones cheaper which is hard since most people tend to keep their lenses when you buy at this level

From the other reviews I've watched, the focus is usually on the eyes, usually the one closest to the camera. But sometimes it gets the other eye instead, and it's not as good in low light. I suppose it might be a concern if you like super shallow depth of field.

In addition, lighter and easier to carry plus you can choose how dark your background is.
