    Very interesting video and great pictures!! Thank you! This lens is indeed a excellent option for those looking for the most compact tele lens to bring all the time with! I wish OM could launch a weather sealed mark 3 version of this lens keeping the small size.

      Hi Titaostein - I love weather sealed lenses. Really wished my Olympus 9-18 1:4-5.6 would be weather sealed as well!

    Thanks for sharing, love your shots, especially the planes. I went to our local airshow in NZ with my 40-150 2.8 Pro. The shots were very sharp also, but you got closer with your lens, so I'm envious. Keep up the great work and looking forward to the next one.

      Thank you so much for your kind words John Stephen! Was really funny to see FF Nikon and Canon users using tripods and monopods for their lenses, whereas I could easilly take handheld shots all day!

    I enjoyed your video. I'm looking to buy this lens so, I'm checking out reviews. They all seem favourable so far. The 100-400 is out now. I'm also looking at that one.

      Thank you for your kind words. I am curious which lens you will buy and what your experiences will be. Let me know!

    Solid lens when light is good. Love how light and compact for the reach it gives.

    Very informative video. Thank you for sharing. I have the lens, having bought it 'used' some time ago. My experience of it is very positive, and of course it is great value for money. If only Olympus would bring out a weather sealed version!

    • @dutchaperture
      @dutchaperture  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Penfoel - Yes, that would be fantastic! I think weather sealing is a key differentiator nowadays. It is one of the reasons why I love to take the Olympus 12-40 2.8, or the Olympus 14-150 1:4-5.6 lens, in combination with a weather-sealed EM1 i or EM5 ii body on my hikes.

    I can only assume that copies of this lens vary in the image quality produced. I've had two and sold them on, your image quality is far better than I achieved..

    Superb Photos I bought this lens off eBay and was amazed at the weight and Reach you get you could carry this all day no problem I was so impressed I bought the Olympus e-m1 mk2 and the 300f4 off Panamoz Fantastic for Wildlife who said micro four thirds is dead

      Hi Alfranco - Thank you for your compliments! I love MFT, but am also afraid it might eventually die, mainly as a result of marketing decisions (pricing and promotion) in the first years after the system was introduced. Too bad, it could have been a real game-changer!

    You took nice photos. I would also consider the Olympus 100-400 f5-6.3 and the 40-150 f2.8 Pro + MC20 as alternative setups.

    Nice review, thanx, I have Mark I version, bought seconhand. On short end is very sharp but over 250mm is rather soft. I like this lens but best range is 75-220mm.

      Thanks for your comments! When you need to go beyond 220-250 mm, do you use another lens?

    Hello, greeting from Singapore. I use this lens with my Olympus OMD EM5 mark i camera. And it's been almost 4 years of using it and I've found it to be my favorite lens. All video recordings and bird photography on my TH-cam channel, I use this lens. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences about this lens. 👍🔔. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

    I have version I of the 75-300 and it is my everyday carry lens while walking the dog. At 75mm it is very sharp! I got this lens used for $185 in Japan, and it is one of my best purchases so far in the Micro Four Thirds system. One small correction: the Panasonic 100-300 is f/5.6 at 300mm.

    This lens is indeed surprisingly good and fun to use. Excellent value (I got mine used for less than €300). It works even better on the newer cameras (e.g. OM-1) with better autofocus and IBIS. I do miss weather resistance, which would make it more all round.

    • @dutchaperture
      @dutchaperture  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi tizio54 - fully agree with you! Love MFT weather sealed lenses - e.g. the Zuiko 12-40 mm 2.8 Pro and also the Ziko 14-150 mm F4-5.6 II. Think this could be a real differentiator for the MFT format!

    I got some great photos with this lens. And it's good value compared to more expensive pro zoom lens. Were you hand holding the camera for those shots? Great review, and thanks for sharing.

    • @dutchaperture
      @dutchaperture  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ron! Yes, all pictures were taken handheld. The (lack of) weight and size of this camera are some of the main advantages in my view.

    Hi
    I have the same lens and camera as you which you just reviewed and I also enjoy trying to shoot airplanes but I don’t think my settings are good enough.
    Could you recommend the settings you used at the airshow when setting up.
    Regards Jeff

    • @dutchaperture
      @dutchaperture  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeff - Thanks and sorry to hear! I use Auto Focus - Single and a shutter speed of 1/500-1/1000 and up. What do you use?

    • @jeffcassar8062
      @jeffcassar8062 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dutchaperture Thanks for your quick reply
      I normally use auto ISO auto WB 1/2000 with continuous focus plus auto stabilising S aperture.
      I seem to get the shaky results and the cf has trouble focusing on the target.

    • @dutchaperture
      @dutchaperture  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeffcassar8062 Perhaps you can try it with AF-Single (works for me), or even with manually focusing on infinity with a narrower aperture for a larger depth of field. Getting back again to your original point: what I also do is shoot them in raw, so I can bring out the shadows underneath the wings better.

    Hallo Dirk…Dank je voor de bijzonder praktische ‘bespreking’ van deze lens die ik ook van plan ben aan te schaffen. Ik heb ook de ‘aloude’ Olympus FT 50-200 2.8-3.5 en de Panasonic 75-175, allebei geweldig, maar wil toch nog wat meer reach aangezien ik veel telefoto’s maak. Heb je verder nog tips m.b.t. instellingen die je gebruikt? Ik heb de Omd-em 1 mark 1 en de Panasonic G80. Alvast dank🌞

    • @dutchaperture
      @dutchaperture  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beste Gerie - Geweldige camera’s! Ze werken allebei prima samen met deze lens. Het enige waar ik zorg voor draag is een snelle sluitertijd om bewogen foto’s te voorkomen.

    Incredible value lens. Thrilled with mine. Not the smoothest to zoom but that might just be my example. Olympus not including lens hoods with many lenses is very poor form.

    • @alangamble3236
      @alangamble3236 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes …the zoom is not silky smooth, I returned mine to Olympus for “fixing” and it has improved but nowhere near as good as my Oly 14-150. I find the 75-300 to be a very competent lens though.

      @dutchaperture  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Agylub and Alan - Funny, mine is pretty smooth. So much for production variation!

    I watched your review and at the end you briefly mentioned the 100-300 from Lumix. I have photographed with both the Olympus and the Lumix, where the Lumix performs considerably better. Not in the least because it lets more light through, which means a considerable gain in shutter speed for telephoto. I do not miss the 25 mm less zoom range. The OLYMPUS MFT 40-150MM R F/4.0-5.6 ED is a very good and inexpensive alternative. Converted to the 35mm standard, a range of 80 to 300 millimeters, which is already a respectable telephoto range.

      To answer your question:
      I shoot both with the mft format and with a full frame camera. The big advantage of the MFT format is in particular the smaller and lighter equipment and lenses. Most of the time I use the LUMIX gx80 which I am very satisfied with. In addition, an olympus OMD m10 III, although it is used more by my wife. When I am ready I will buy a LUMIX GX9 because the rangefinder format appeals to me more.
      Groeten uit Portugal,
      Sjoerd.

    Den Text kann ich nicht verstehen, weil englisch, aber ihre Fotos sind recht gesättigt den Farben und in den Tiefen zu dunkel, meine Meinung. Flugzeuge brauche ich nicht, Stinker und zu laut. In den Vögeln sind im Schatten kaum Zeichnung zu sehen.
