At the end of the day, great cymbals and a great drummer can make any shell pack sound good. With that mentality, I think it’s a very worthwhile purchase, along with some Zildjian A Customs or Paiste 2002s.
@@chrispidgeonmusician Thanks, your words give me clarity. After kept re-watching this video through and through. I come to conclusion that Stage Custom is a wise minimum than saving up for all in as you've said.
As someone who had a Stage Custom and upgraded to Live Custom I totally agree! Incidentally the tom holder is the same on all the kits except the Rydeen - it’s the bass drum mount for the holder which may be better on higher end kits. The YESS tom mount is also on the Live and Recording custom so is also good! 🤘😎🥁👍 12:01
Awesome thanks for watching and commenting! I've used my Starclassic Walnut/Birch properly for the first time now - it blows the Stage Custom away just like the Live Custom does. More money I know, but that is the point I guess...
I bought one of these in April of 23. It's decent. Not the end all be all, but decent. I've used it in the studio and it recorded well. 8, 10, 12, 14, 20 and 14 x 5.5. Coated G2 batter, Clear G1 reso, EMAD 2 batter and EMAD reso on the bass drum. I've heard about a dozen different drummers play it as I am the house/host drummer for a weekly jam. It sounds pretty good for the most part. Many unsolicited comments on how good it sounds from other drummers. Never heard it through a PA. I also upgraded the hoops to 2.3 mm and replaced all the tension screws with Tightscrew tension screws. The big issue I have is with tuning. I feel they are hard to get in tune, especially the 10". Not sure if it is the head choice or what, but I personally feel their tunable range is really limited. I go with the lowest pitch that sounds good to me on the floor tom, and then tune to a 4th between each tom. Use "Here comes the Bride" as a reference for 4ths. I've played a 1990 Tama Granstar II that I bought new and used Aquarian heads during most of that time. As you said, the YSC doesn't come close to pro. But for the money and not overly worrying about bad things happening to it, you really can't go wrong. The head combo I use is based on tons of people saying that is the go-to combo. I may have to experiment in the future, but heads are so expensive, I'd hate to spend the money on something I didn't like. Thanks for the video!
i used this kit, AND PLAYED ON 2 NO 1 ALBUMS WITH SALES OF 4 MILLION , OK BETTER HEADS AND TOP SABIAN CYMBALS BUT 4 MILLION RECORD SALES, SO BUY IT, NOW DW GIVE ME ANYTHING I WANT
Excellent review, Thank you! Very helpful

Well said! Thanks for watching.
A good drummer can make your pots and pans sound good, a bad drummer can make Mike Portnoy's kit sound like pots and pans...
As someone who has both the stage custom and the live custom (both in bop sizes), I can say I love both kits.
Thanks for watching
Hi. Have you ever tried Tour Custom. Wonder whether it worth a one step up from Stage Custom.
I haven’t to be fair, but I’d probably save and go for the Absolute Hybrid Maple

It’s not worth the upgrade for the tour customs, you want a maple kit? Go with absolute hybrid maple instead. So you can birch and maple

What's the point of being outside for this video?
No point really just more space. Lots of my videos are outside. Thanks for watching.
