  • If you've watched my other videos here, you've probably guessed that I loves me some delay! This Erica Synths Zen Delay just came today. There's plenty of info about this cool little box out there, so I won't go into all the details here (www.ericasynths.lv/news/explo... is one place to go). Basically, it's a stereo digital delay, with a multimode filter and a TUBE PREAMP. That's right, a TUBE PREAMP. It has nice tape delay emulation modes, and a "Vintage" mode, which is really...uh..."vintage". The filter has a Resonance knob, and sounds about as good as any synth filter out there. Cranking up the resonance can get some REALLY nasty sounds. I'm not using the preamp here - perhaps in another video.
For this video, I'm running a Red Sound Dark Star XP2 (I really need to clean that sucker up) via a DX-7, into the Zen. Feedback starts out at about 2:00, which gives a long, almost looper-like quality to the sound. Once I get several layers going, I start monkeying around with stuff. It's very easy to get lost in this thing.
