    The white thick grease is primarily to preserve the lifespan of the internals as the grease will eventually thin out in texture as the freehub beds in during use. Also makes the freehub quieter for those riders that don't like noisy freehub. Downside is that the freehub doesn't engage as good as lesser viscous grease like copper grease in spray can form (make hub very loud like an angry bee/wasp hovering).
    The wheelsets themselves whatever model are very good for premium set with breaking your bank balance.

    Thanks again for another super helpful and concise video. I've just bought a Prime Baroudeur Disk V2 wheelset and will be doing what you recommended before fitting to my bike.

    The resistance also causes chain slap when freewheeling, especially descending at high speeds because the stiff freehub body practically pushes forward the part of the chain above the chain stay, which makes it very slack when not pedaling. Going over even minor road imperfections can literally make you drop your chain and/or damage your frame. It's ridiculous.

    I had a Novatec freehub with such thick grease it stopped the pawls working properly. Had to clean and reapply suitable grease to prevent the pawls slipping.

    That is like bike mechanic 101. Dont put thick grease in freehub mechanism! I wonder witch "engineer" or "manager" acepted this mess. Thank you for video.

    Great video, I’ve just purchased a Prime Primavera 50 Carbon Rim Brake Wheelset. What grease would you recommend please?

    Just bought these wheels second hand with 500miles. Straight away notice them sticking and chain slapping about. To be fair my 2021 TCR with rebrand DT Swiss hubs were slightly resistance but nothing like this. The hub body is knackered and loose. I'm about to dissect and i bet this white glue grease is holding the thing on!

    I bought some Prime wheels a few months ago and only got round to attempting to change them today. Fitted the cassette and put back on bike and the wheel just doesn’t turn…really hoping this is the solution!

    I’m looking to buy some Prime Doyenne 50 Carbon Rim Brake wheels…what is the general view on Prime wheels please? (£449.99 on wiggle) Good or better to spend more on some others?

    Great information. Chain reaction is having a sale on prime rd-44 wheelset . $504.00 for wheelset tires and sealant. Are prime wheels any good. Will be putting them on my 2016 specialized diverge. I only ride road. Thanks

    What would be the right replacement freehub for my Prime 10 speed wheels?

    Good video. Looks very similar to my Powertap G3 hub although I don't have to unscrew the cap and because of that I just use oil and do that a little more often. You're videos have helped me a good few times 👍

    That looks like brilliant advice! However, I've just bought a set of RR-50 clinchers, 2022, and the freehub removal is different - the hex keys will not work. Have you any idea what tools are required to remove it?

    • @SteGriff
      @SteGriff ปีที่แล้ว

      I have just had the same ones arrive. The opposite side from the freehub just pops off right? Leaving nothing to put a hex key into. Spinning the freehub there does seem to be quite a lot of resistance though and quite a dull sound that echos through the wheel

    Hi I've just purchased a set of Prime's new Primavera carbon wheels and wondering if the same issue with the freehub is present in this latest range?

    I have bought a road bike 2 years ago. Today the cassette came loose when I put down some power. As I took out the wheel, the lockring and chainrings already kinda fell off. The freehub body is a bit worn out especially the outer edge where the smallest chain ring sits on. I think that the original assembly was already wrong, because when I put everything together, I can not even get the lockring on. The threads are still fine, but they don't even touch. It's like the cassette is kind of too wide, so the lockring can not get to the thread (I hope you know what I mean). Then I noticed some kind of spacer ring that sits under the cassette. On the inside of the biggest chain ring. This doesn't seem to be the case at any of the cassettes I have seen in your videos. Have you ever seen a black spacer ring on the free hub body, before the biggest ring is being put on?
    Sorry for the long text. Would be awesome if you had the time to answer! :)
    Edit: Shimano 105 cassette

      If the cassette is 11 speed then you don’t need the spacer behind the cassette!

    Thanks for the video. However, on my RR-50 wheels, when I remove the end cap, the freehub does not slide off like yours does. It feels really stuck in. I’ve removed the little grub screw which is on the freehub body aswell. Any idea why it won’t come off?

    • @FreeToCycle
      @FreeToCycle  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They will get stuck on if not maintained. Try putting the cassette back on the freehub and then put your fingers behind the largest sprocket and pull.

    I've removed the freehub on my RR-50 v3's - loads of white grease as you've mentioned. whilst de-greasing, one of the pawls came out - I've reinserted into its rightful place. should I be concerned or do I need to do anything or will that be ok? cheers
