having taken this thing 100s of times, the sound of it revving and braking is implanted in my mind. from all the exposure to this thing, i credit it with strengthening my nerves and ability to endure hours of torture.

I have taken the Scarborough RT during the holidays in 2012 when I did not have to pay for a fare as a kid.

Am I the only one that thinks the RT should be left alone and the Danforth/Bloor line should extend from Kennedy and go east on Eglinton, them up Kingston then up Meadowvale Rd or Morningside Rd to the Zoo? If you know Scarborough at all, none of these proposals really go too far enough east into Scarborough (like it goes west into Etobicoke). Scarborough is quite big and lots of people have to go an incredibly far distance to get to the RT, a proposed subway or a proposed LRT. I feel they should just fix the RT which wouldn't cost as much and create a different line that will affect/help more Scarbarians.

The Eglinton Crosstown is in the planning stage of being extended to UTSC. Also the Sheppard East LRT will have potential to reach the Zoo, it would have been built by now, but politics ran amok.

Thank you, someone that actually wants to keep the line and they should really fix or upgrade to one of the newer mark trains.

I haven’t taken the RT in years! Always wanted them to expand the Sheppard line to Scarborough Town Centre.

Maybe we will have to take a ride after the pandemic hahaha :)

That would be GO Transit's Uxbridge Subdivision which parallels the Scarborough RT for a few miles. GO runs the Stouffville commuter line along that trackage.

This is a thing of the past... The line closed following a derailment...

This line isn't dense enough to support a subway. Sheppard line is useless. We need a Downtown Relief Line.

  • @alexanderip1003
    @alexanderip1003 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

We need a *Central Line Line 6 Red and Downtown Relief Line 7 Indigo
*A line which runs between the east and west wings of the Yonge Line (it was attempted in Montreal as Line 3 Red but construction never happened due to cancellation)

Alexander Ip got the size of the Conurbation know as the Golden Horseshoe there should be up wards of 20 rapid urban lines. Keep the lines elevated and grade separated between cities (it saves money in the end).
I’d let competing companies vie for the operation of thee lines. Look at the urban rail lines in Kansai.

Its sad to see that this perfectly good corridor will be scrapped for a stupid subway extension. LRT would serve Scarborough much better. operating at subway speeds with more stops

there was a council meeting and Scarborough decided that they are going to extend the bloor-danforth line further into scarborough, which cost more than to Convert the SRT into better light rail, send this to every TTC SRT or subway video!!! and the extension will close the SRT for good once it is done....

After travelling on refurbished RT, I can say that it is a great commute option between STC and Kennedy Station. It’s noisy and needs better infrastructure and noise insulation. The TTC RT drivers can vouch my words and even add better suggestions. Sadly it’s going away and the replacement Line 2 extension is due for 2030. Seven years is a l-o-n-g time.

For sure. It’s going to be a long wait for the subway extension.

Question---what is the track that appears in both the background and off to the right---it looks like conventional railroad.

Technically it's a downgrade, not an 'upgrade' like LRT supporters insist. We could have bought the new generation RT vehicles with larger capacity (Mark II or III) at $390M, significantly cheaper than subway or LRT conversion.

Ultimately what killed this is deciding last minute to have them be human driven instead of fully automated. The technology was designed to be absolutely consistent every time in things like acceleration and braking and the inconsistency of having them be driven manually added unnecessary wear.
In Vancouver with the SkyTrain our old cars were all refurbished and while we originally thought they might be good for another 20 years after testing they're in far better condition than thought and could potentially remain in service another 40 years

I can't believe they would think its more worth getting rid of both the ATO RT Trains which were so much more useful and get rid of the tradition in it, and get light rail instead.
