The Side airbags are a unique Opel design from 1995 (Vectra B 1996) (They have been copied by some) that prevents you from getting bruises and burns on the arm from an inflated airbag that you risk in all other seats, if the car can be repaired after an accident, only the cartridge in which the airbag sits needs to be replaced, in all other cars you have to throw out the whole seat and install a brand new one.
Also from 1995 - Vectra 1996 you have pedals that detach and fall away in a severe accident to prevent foot injuries.
