There's a lot of explanations about what the PEEP acronym refers to, but not what PEEPS® are, so:
PEEP (Positive end-expiratory pressure): the alveolar pressure above atmospheric pressure that exists at the end of expiration (basically air left in your lungs after exhaling)
Peeps®(singular, "peep"): a marshmallow candy shaped like a baby chicken; sold in the US and Canada.

When I was a flight attendant at a European airline they told us to ask for "medical staff" in case of an emergency. Never for a "medical doctor". The airline explained as follows: When you have a medical emergency on a plane, the last thing you need is an ophthalmologist trying to figure out our emergency equipment. You much rather want an ER nurse dealing with stuff in that situation.

So the opthalmologist comes in, runs his tests, dilates my pupils. The works. And he's like "well, you have what's called a [insert words I don't remember] Pupillary Defect. Which shows that there is really something there outwardly. It's really our only way to know that you can't see out of that eye" And in my head I was like "How often do people come in faking an MS diagnosis and inability to see out of their left eye??"

PEEP, or positive end expiratory pressure, is a parameter on the ventilator that we can adjust to give you more oxygen. Basically, it is the pressure we keep on when the vent is letting you breathe out. The lungs are made of tiny sacs called alveoli that kinda look like grapes on a vine. If we let your lungs completely empty with each breath, then the alveoli would collapse, and we would have to use even more pressure to force air in and snap open the alveoli. However, high pressure in the lungs can damage them and cause lung collapse and trauma, so by leaving a little pressure on at the end of expiration, we can use less pressure from the ventilator to give you a breath. The higher the PEEP, the more alveoli you have open and the better your oxygenation becomes, but also your lungs will see, on average, more pressure, which can be bad for them.
If you’ve heard of CPAP, which is continuous positive airway pressure, it functions as a similar concept except the pressure is the same all the time throughout your breathing cycle on CPAP, whereas the vent has an inspiration pressure called “PIP” and an expiration pressure called “PEEP”
