    Another new Echolink user here. Thanks to you and John for the overview, it's been a great help - there's a bit too much information in the Echolink user guide to take in all at once!

    "Exactly what people are looking for" is correct. Brand new ham operator here (yesterday) and downloaded the ECHO LINK APP, but was struggling to figure it out. Followed through all those set-up tabs you guys discussed, but still cannot connect to the Test Server or most stations. They are timing out. I was able to connect to a repeater in Allen Tx, but that was it. Still working the learning curve I guess. KI5YUU

    Just got EchoLink set up, Thanks for the excellent video, it explained a lot. Two thing I have found so far is to double check your sound source (mine was using my webcab rather than my head set) and I changed the PTT to momentary so the spacebar acts more like a PPT. Looking forward to playing around.

    Hi, thanks for the elaborate instruction on the EchoLink software. What I am trying to understand how do you link with your HT to say a repeater nearby that has a EchoLink to come out on a repeater elsewhere? Connecting to a repeater nearby I understand, is done with sending the DTFM node number from your HT. But how do you connect to that other repeater elsewhere? OR you type/dial the node number of the repeater elsewhere directly sending the DTFM to that repeater nearby? 😁

  • @africantwin173
    @africantwin173 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I hope that one day some one made a UHF add on board for the raspberry pi. A mobile Pi node with 30 mAh uhf module and svxlink or open repeater project software would be perfect.

    What is the different between echolink and and any android app walkie talkie that u can talk global and local? There on those walkie talkie apps u can use talk anywhere too so what is the different

    • @KI4CFSHamRadioMartinBrossman
      @KI4CFSHamRadioMartinBrossman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question and it is the key is anyone with an Android can join the walkie-talkie app but you have to earn and pass the license to talk on Ham Radio and that changes the dynamics. Also,you are not to talk about politics and you are always connected to your call sign so people often act better than they are on Social Media or an open discussion. Ham Radio is something earned not just bought. Martin KI4CFS

      @@KI4CFSHamRadioMartinBrossman so basically is the educational u get from getting lisence and the knowledge of understanding how radio frequencies communication works that makes a difference is what ur saying correct. They both do the same thing ham radios and walkie talkie besides wifi and RF communicating , but I do see the different on listening on the apps walkie talkies there is no respect, no way of who people are and no point of communicating there . Well thank you for the reply I will get my hands soon on my lisence 👍👍

    have a motorola handheld n I have gmrs lisence . I programmed my radio to a repeater frequency around 465. UHF and I'm able to talk around 100 milles . Is it the same thing when programing the echo link to my radio or do I need another radio with different frequency and how do I know that echolink is goin to reach like Argentina or like another county

      The key to Echolink it is is mostly over the internet and that is useful for new Amateur Radio operators that have a computer or Smartphone and internet but no radio yet.

      It's a hobby, and Echolink has helped a lot of people get connected. An example is how I helped one disabled Vet get his license and get on the air first with Echolink. From that people donated him a radio and he enjoys many aspects of the hobby. That is they the hobby is so great and broad there is something for everyone. If you don't like one thing that, do something else in the hobby.

    If you have a problem connecting you may need to turn OFF the Wi-fi connection and only run over cell phone data. Also sometimes you have to close and restart the app. photos.app.goo.gl/mN84XMvGsJtUf4yB7
