NVIDIA will probably lift the ray-tracing performance from 1 sample per pixel to 4 samples per pixel. That way ray-tracing will slowly be able to be used for something else than just illumination.
But yeah, for a fully ray-traced scene in real-time, we'd need 1,000 samples per pixel. And that's only because of recent advances in mathematics and algorithms for the denoiser. A few years ago that was easily 200,000 samples per pixel.
Anyway, that's still a long way off, because a thousand-fold increase in processing power doesn't just happen within one or two generations. So the question is what their plans are for bridging the gap. Will ray-tracing be truly useful in the sub-thousand spp range or will it die prematurely?

Thunderstyle 5700 XT cards are absolutely better value for gaming builds, giving you an equivalent experience for much less. If you’re doing artistic work (newly added RTX-accelerated rendering in Blender’s “Cycles” engine) or even scientific/engineering work (MATLAB’s “Parallel Computing” toolbox, machine learning,) Nvidia cards suddenly become much more attractive. Those are the few examples I know off the top of my head where RTX cards are the better option, there could be more.

@Alex Amedia That is not true. With no competition from other players AMD, Intel and NVIDIA set their prices like a cartel.
There are no incentives for AMD to lower their prices. Anything slightly better value than NVIDIA will give them a slight edge that will make sure they have enough market share without completely taking over. It makes everything as profitable as possible for both companies.

Gives me a Rebel Galaxy Red Devils vibe, I love it.
Great review! Can't wait for big Navi version of this beast.

Fanboy bullshit, been disproved time and time again. People set the nvidia cards to limited colour space and then complain that it doesnt look as good as an AMD card using full range colours.

Going from a 1070 to a 5700xt , even without Radeon image sharpening on, it is 100% true that AMD cards got sharper image quality.

I think they really nailed it design wise, this shows that it really doesn't take a lot of money to make a card look premium, just some plastic bits in the right place can make the cards look 100x better. Other brands should take notes on this design.

Excellent review!! I'm seriously considering this card for my new build as I am currently using a RX580 Red Dragon in my old Ryzen 1700X build. I'm still going to hold off on buying x570 motherboards for the mo as I'm waiting to see what else happens for the rest of this month. (currently running an Asus Hero VII with latest BIOS)

I will happily pay $100 more for Ray Tracing.
Not diminishing yet another great video from the graph master, just saying if AMD added Ray Tracing to it's cards for $100 I would buy it, as of now they have no Rays! My all AMD blood build I wanted is tinted with some green blood. Hopefully they will come out with a Ray Tracing model soon.
I'm a eye candy kind of player, I will enjoyably take 30fps 1440p Rays vs 100fps no Rays. It's Skyrims fault.

Revisiting this video in 2021 makes me realize just how long gone the days of affordable, high end GPUs are. $440 for a high end performing GPU, it sounds like an utter fantasy now.

In the one game. AMD always rinse Nvidia in Forza and battlefield.
Otherwise at stock speed, the xt is slower than a 2070 super in most games.
Please stop being a fan boy.
And I say that as someone who is very tempted to buy this card.

@@АлекОлексый but the 2060 super is cheaper than this third party xt card and the 2070 super is the same price or slightly more.
They are all fairly close in price and performance.

      Ignore the $300 difference thing.
This card is not as fast as a 2080 super.
You need to compare it with the 2060 and 2070 super.
