I disagree. The Martin remake was updating an old school B&W Hollywood era film . This could be a great movie, but better spun as an original, in the spirit of.....
I think more than anything it's the same concept with different characters. I feel like looking at Andy Garcia's character and then looking at Steve Martin's character there's a huge difference between both characters. So I feel like I don't really view this so much as a remake just a different version/retelling
Our survey says . . . nah uh! When something is as close to the perfect version of that film, remake or not, it’s best not to mess with it. This is clearly gonna flop cause it just can’t compete with the love the other ones generates in the hearts of the audience. What a waste of money that could be spend developing originality somewhere else in the industry.

father of the bride with steve martin is a classic and one of my all time fave movies. that being said, i wasn't sure how to feel about this when i went to watch the trailer, but it really doesn't look bad. i feel like the premise of the movie is the same.. hence "traditional parents" and that "father/daughter connection" but with a more modernized vibe. i feel like when watching this movie, to enjoy it, you have to go in with a clear mindset that you're watching something totally new and not a remake of an older movie.

I am excited for this remake and for its efforts, if successful, to portray additional cultural aspects than a cos white family unit. I would love to see a version of this movie reflecting a familial blending like Pryanka Chopra-Jonas and Nick Jonas’ wedding weekend. When information about their wedding weekend came out, I found myself fascinated by Ms, Cholera’s religious and cultural celebrations. I would love to see the beautiful Indian traditions and rituals accurately portrayed in film and their real-life story would make for an amazing movie while educating the American public about another culture.
What people in this comment section fail to realize is that this is not a remake! Every father that has a daughter getting married is the father of the bride! Cultures celebrate differently.

I like how it seems like the movie isn't going to go the usual "disapproving parent tries to break up the marriage" route. The dad is clearly off-put by the guy his daughter is marrying, but the trailer doesn't seem to indicate that he'll be actively hostile towards him...

I absolutely loved the remake with Steve Martin as a kid and I'm not gonna lie when I first saw this was coming out I was like "why?" But I feel like this is a kinda fresh retake on the movie and it's giving off a 90's movie vibe, which I miss, so I'll give it a chance.

But then I was like "Ok....it's keeping the same spirit as the Steve Martin film without being a word for word replica with no feeling or emotion....but still some rehashed ideas tossed in." I'll give it a shot, but keeping expectations low so I can still hope for being surprised.

It has some similar aspects to the original Steve Martin one, but also has its unique differences...the fact that the parents are in the process of getting a divorce while their daughter is getting married was something I did not see coming...but could be funny if done right. ill be looking forward to seeing this film.
