Encountering New Words when Reading

When you are reading with your child and find a word you think they might not know, don't worry about replacing it. Picture books have rich vocabulary to expose children to as many new words as possible! Instead, you can explain the word, use a synonym after reading the word, or maybe even act the word out. A bigger vocabulary gives a kick start for reading comprehension!
