The first ever lawn of flowers I saw in England was a field of Crocusses. I absolutely love them. Fantastic info Darren and I shall never plant a bulb upside down again because of your lessons 😅

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I just drilled 50 holes in my lawn 2 days ago then fiddled around with trying to get compost down the small holes. Your way is so much better! Quicker and mess free.

You mentioned not wanting them to look as if a square shaped or rectangular. I guess I’m curious to see what they look like, in my mind this planting would yield a rectangular block of flowers. I guess it depends on how you want it to end up looking. I guess I’ve only typically heard of people wanting it to look more naturalistic and toss the bulbs to randomize it. I’m curious to see the result of this planting!

This method certainly isn’t the naturalised look. I’m hoping they will be like a small happy bouquet of crocus ❤️

Hi Darren cant wait to see all your bulbs come up 🥰 I have a little question..I'm finding it hard to get some strong fragrance in the garden. Most of my Rose's are scented but I have to get close to smell them. Do you have anything in your garden that fills it with scent? Xx

Not Darren but there is a type of geranium that smells like lemons, if they are perennial in your climate you should try them out!

Hi I've got a some for you. Summer, (Calamintha, Dianthus and Hyssop)! Hyssop tip, protect it in the early spring with chicken wire, birds will eat the growing foliage and it'll die! Spring (Hyacinth)...lol that's all I've got for spring! Hyacinth have the most beautiful fragrance. If you plant them outside you'll be waiting impatiently for them to grow so that you can cut them and bring them inside.

How do you mow the lawn around them?

I used a bulb planter and placed 2 - 3 bulbs in each hole.

Great! I did that too in some areas :) Bulb planters are so good.

Wow I always thought I’d have to amend the soil more! I’m going to try this! I’m in zone 7a in the states. I’ve read that crocus is the best to plant in the lawn because once you’re ready to mow it’s far past done and it won’t hurt it. I wish I could do daffodils and tulips but I read they take longer and wouldn’t be ready to be mowed at the same time as the grass. Any experience with this please?

I grow daffodils, bluebells, Crocus and fritillaries in my front lawn but can’t cut the grass till June. Tulips are very poor growers in the lawn, from my experience anyways.
Get planting :) Good luck xx

Do they return seasonally once planted?
