I met Florence many years ago when did a commercial in the Fox Studios in Detroit...I was the camera engineer and struck up conversation with her...a lovely humble woman, gracious and kind.
I am actually beginning the series of The Brady Renovation that I dvr'd. I was born in 1960 and that show was a big part of enjoyable t.v. viewing. I have to admit at the beginning of part 1 I began to sob like a baby. Things aren't the same in families anymore and I miss those family values that I too grew up in. Missing my mom and dad alot right now. Thank you for reading my comment and bless you
As a child of the 1970’s, I was privileged to watch many classic television shows in that decade. Mary Tyler Moore, Shirley Jones, Esther Rolle, and Florence Henderson. I found it to surreal when Miss Henderson died three years ago. It ended an era of those stars who we thought would be around forever but I realize that wasn’t true. Rip
I agree Jessie. The only thing is the cut was actually called a "shag" haircut. It was popular in 1971 and '72, but was gone by 1973. Another difference is that the '80s male mullet was short on the sides but long in the back. I know what you mean though. It is the quintessential Carol Brady cut!
Florence Henderson became determined when she began to the show to be a real mom and a role model because she grew up in a dysfunctional family.. She actually did love the children in the show as well as her own. She had four of them. She sung year after year, the National Anthem at the Indianapolis 500. She wanted to do something for the United States and act as a role model to help children in general that would see the show. She was highly patriotic. She broke the chain of passing her bad childhood on to her children. When someone recognized her on the street, she was always tried to be very warm to the person because she knew that the person might very well see her as the character she played and had a strong connection to her.
Grand Dame by any definition. Her stories while moving up the celebrity ladder are risque, funny, interesting. All kept under wraps until she had moved to grand dame status - which makes 'em all the better. All done with style + class, an attribute missing today with most of Hollywood.
Imagine waking up in the wee hours of the night and what glimmer of moonlight that dimly shines thru your window into the surrounding darkness that is 2 feet from your face....lies this face 0:15 then on the opposite side...this face 0:56😱💀. Rest in peace Florence....respect
Whatever you want to say about her, whenever someone recognized Florence Henderson because of the role she played on the Brady Bunch, she always tried to make the person feel wonderful. She did this because she knew that it would be an exhileration for that person's life time.
It was uncomfortable for him. He was also classically trained and a real diva. LOVED THE KIDS, but hated the show and fought with Schwartz on nearly every script. The movie, Growing Up Brady is here on YT.
I heard that she worked with him a lot to help with that She was the only one (or one of the very few) people to know that he was gay since he was so deep in the closet before he died
The only personal story I know of her was from a friend that my dad had in his small scale modelers club when I was a kid. It was some time during the early 80's before cell phones and the guy was standing in line waiting to use one of the payphones they used to have in rows of 10 or so.... Here he is standing in line and this woman just walks up to the phone once someone was hanging up and says "can I make a quick call, I'm Florence Henderson!" & the people in line were saying "don't give a shit who you are, wait in line like the rest of us!" I believe this story.
She was the original Laurie in "Oklahoma" on Broadway, a visit to Wikipedia or pulling it up as she sang with fellow cast members on the Ed Sullivan Show will prove this. One can pull up the cast members singing to the music right here on You Tube. Makes sense that she and Shirley were great friends. Maybe I am wrong but I heard the rumor that although Henderson was the spokesperson for Wesson Oil and the matriarch of the Brady Bunch family, that in her personal life Florence admitted that she really wasn't much of a cook.
I stand corrected and thank you. Henderson was in the revival ten years later and that one went on national tour. Nevertheless,I do know that Florence and Shirley Jones had a great relationship.
I don't know what combination of genetics, lifestyle and life lotto happened to her but she stayed pretty and youthful until 82! Not like "wow, she's plucky for an old granny" but like... like she was a 'hottie' and stopped aging at around 57. Crazy!
Shirley Jones was superb as Shirley Partridge. I loved it when she and David Cassidy sang while the others pretended to sing. That look, expression on her face became her trademark. Jones wanted her character to work rather than take roasts out of the oven or make sandwiches which is what Alice (BB) did. Florence Henderson was the perfect actress to portray Carol Brady, She herself could've used a mom like Carol Brady who was the perfect mom. Florence wanted Carol to have a job, but for some reason, the producers didn't listen to her.
I studied voice with Kay Lande, who appeared on children's shows in the late Sixties and was a contemporary of Henderson. In fact Lande considered Henderson a friend until one day after not seeing each other for a while they ran into each other. Lande said hello like anyone would; Henderson had gotten too big for her britches and the first thing out of her mouth was "Do I know you?" I've hated that woman for fifty years. I don't believe in rejoicing over someone's death but don't expect me to shed any tears.
my father said kids who had a dysfunctional family or divorced parents use to watch the brady bunch use to watch her and Shirley Jones and play in their heads that one or the other was their actual mother.
Is any of this really terrible celebrity dirt here? I don't think so, in fact, quite the opposite. I enjoyed watching reruns of the Brady Bunch when I was a kid, they don't make shows like that any more. I know that in reality trying to blend families like that is not easy, everyone is not going to automatically get along, but maybe the reason this was such a great show, is that it showed what could happen if everyone made an effort to get along well with each other!
Yeah, I was shocked when she passed away. She seemed so full of life, however, I later found out that she had a history of heart failure. Media today is so timid and sh*tty, you almost have to find this stuff out by accident.
simon madi low class people often have many children due to the low socioeconomic background, they often can't afford birth control or abortions, don't have access to comprehensive sex education especially back when she was born in the 30's! Plus sex was such a forbidden subject back then, no one talked about it or educated their children on safe sex. And, there's the possibility that they could have gotten poor after they had their kids, not likely but a possibility.
PinkDiamonds But you also have to think that if you can't afford to have that many kids, then you just don't. People have brains , but they often don't use that muscle. Just like those people in Africa that have so many children and expect the rest of the world to take care of them.
simon madi Where did you get that idea? In third world countries they don't even have clean water let alone birth control. The government if you can call it that doesn't have benefits to help them and wouldn't help them if they did. Don't judge these people because for some it's religious reasons that they have kids and some are not able to access the education we have. We are blessed to live in a country to have the knowledge and options that others don't. There are plenty of Americans that have these benefits and either don't use them or they abuse them. Have a wonderful day:)
It doesn't matter where you live. I don't care if it's children or a dog. If you can't afford something, you don't get it. I would like to live in a mansion and drive nice cars, but I can't afford those things so I don't get them. Period.
simon madi You obviously don't know much about anything outside of your little world. Yea it's obvious not to do it but not everybody has the same options and freedoms. If you can't realize that you're the stupid one not them.
I grew up watching The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family but if I had a choice definitely The Partridge Family cuz David Cassidy brought all those sexy hot little babes around PS Florence I wish before you pass if you could have told us if you tried turning Robert Reed straight rip Florence

Lucky you wow I love her
Is that so
A beautiful light and beloved by many! Also had a lovely voice! She outclasses others!
such a talented sweet soul...R.I.P
I am actually beginning the series of The Brady Renovation that I dvr'd. I was born in 1960 and that show was a big part of enjoyable t.v. viewing. May Florence Henderson Rest in Peace
I used to run into Florence at the Magic Castle, and clubs throughout Hollywood. She always had a pleasant smile, and warmth that made you feel good!
Rip
one of the most legendary mullets ever ...
You said a MOUTHFUL, Babycakes!
I agree Jessie. The only thing is the cut was actually called a "shag" haircut. It was popular in 1971 and '72, but was gone by 1973. Another difference is that the '80s male mullet was short on the sides but long in the back. I know what you mean though. It is the quintessential Carol Brady cut!
school her lol
Jessie KayLee it was called a Bobtail or a Flip haircut for girls.
Joe Dirt has a Mullet
miss her, R.I.P. Eternal love
her appearance in Shakes The Clown is one of her better movie moments .....what a riot.....a great actor.....
I always liked Florence Henderson I thought she was a very beautiful lady and a very good actress. Rest in peace Florence.
loved her in my youth...great example what a Mom should be. RIHANNA BEAUTIFUL LADY ♡♡♡♡♡
Florence Henderson became determined when she began to the show to be a real mom and a role model because she grew up in a dysfunctional family.. Florence and Shirley looks like sisters. Too bad that no producer picked up on it.
so the untold truth is the nice lady we saw on TV was a nice lady off the screen as well.
Well, given that many celebrities are stereotyped as assholes, it's a treat to find that celebrities are as friendly as the people they play.
It was Marion Ross
It was Marion Ross!
I met the woman. She WAS an asshole and not just to me, I saw her be just as nasty to other people, as well.
Except that she seduced Greg Brady.
What does Shirley mean that she didn't want to be the wife that takes the roast out? Alice did that.
Grand Dame by any definition. Her stories while moving up the celebrity ladder are risque, funny, interesting. All kept under wraps until she had moved to grand dame status - which makes 'em all the better. All done with style + class, an attribute missing today with most of Hollywood.
I have every Brady Bunch member's autograph except for Robert Reed...but Florence Henderson is a treasure...
That's awesome but too bad you couldn't get Robert and Florence's autograph
I feel so very heart broken too! That both of the parents from the show passed away So sad.
The Brady parents, Alice and Sam, and the producers have passed away. That leaves only the Brady kids.
Loved her in the show when I was a youngster! Sadly missed! Great lady!
Imagine waking up in the wee hours of the night and what glimmer of moonlight that dimly shines thru your window into the surrounding darkness that is 2 feet from your face....lies this face 0:15 then on the opposite side...this face 0:56😱💀. Rest in peace Florence....respect

What other Brady Bunch cast members would you like to see us feature next?
Nicki Swift Robert Reed,Please!.
kitty carryall
Nicki Swift
Christopher Knight was probably the funniest and best at situation comedy and timing on the show.
Nicki Swift Marcia Brady and Sydney brady
She's such a nice lady....R.I.P.
I would have killed to have a mother like she was. Beautiful even later in life! One class act!
Mike and Carol Brady were the ideal parents. I wanted parents like them when I watched the BB during the 70's.
I never knew she passed. Wow. Rip.😢
I knew Florence and her husband John Kappas. She was a genuinely caring person and will be missed.
My first celeberty crush The coolest mom and dad on tv
Odd, usually the youngest is the most spoiled and loved. Her poor older siblings!
It must have been really hard for Robert Reed to kiss Florence. Everyone knows he was gay.
It was uncomfortable for him. He was also classically trained and a real diva. LOVED THE KIDS, but hated the show and fought with Schwartz on nearly every script. The movie, Growing Up Brady is here on YT.
simon madi He was an good actor though so you'd never know..!
I heard that she worked with him a lot to help with that
She was the only one (or one of the very few) people to know that he was gay since he was so deep in the closet before he died
He wasn't a "diva". It was a horrible show. Just putrid. I'm not saying I didn't watch it because I did. It was just awful though.
he was deep in it, very
She was one in a million.
This was really interesting. Had so much respect for this lady.
The only personal story I know of her was from a friend that my dad had in his small scale modelers club when I was a kid. Carol Brady vs. Shirley Partridge. Now, that would be the cat fight of the century!
Also, Bradys vs. Partridges on Family Feud.
Shirley and Florence were good friends but I would've loved to see Family Feud with the Brady's vs. the Partridges.
Flo was a real broad - in the best sense of the word. She is missed by many, myself included.
Joan Roberts was the original Laurey.
Crazy!
My dad went to school with her in Dale,IN. One of his brothers dated her for awhile.
The work she gave us on the Brady Bunch will live on forever
She was sooooooo great!
A classy lady and a generous soul. She will be sorely missed.
always liked both of these ladies. good actresses
Both of the Brady parents are gone now. I feel so heartbroken...😢
i dont think you care at all.
You don't even know me, but okay. Whatever....
Was kidding.
Both Brady parents and Alice are gone. They are forever missed!
There really were women like Carol Brady...i remember. Mine too was one of those women.
Bye Mom, we miss you.
What an amazing lady. Sad to see stars like her go..
Great lady.Talented actress.
Met her. 100% beautiful and wonderful woman.
Florence Henderson is my favorite actress and maybe Florence Henderson is busy with family
R.I.P. "Mrs. Brady".
Jones got to sing in her show, waaayyy better than taking a roast out of an oven.
Shirley Jones was superb as Shirley Partridge. I loved it when she and David Cassidy sang while the others pretended to sing. That look, expression on her face became her trademark. I simply.loved her.💓💓💓
Competing shows? TBB and TPF were on the same network and spent most of their years airing on the same night, usually back to back.
Both were/are still great family entertainment. Hollyweird doesn't make shows of this caliber anymore.
I'd like to know alice's story!
I love Florance..
I hated she had a bad childhood....

Always thought she was Beautiful. 🌹
At 5:35, can't help wonder if Matt Lauer made a move on Florence after the show.
damn when did that happen? i missed this one.
Thank you for this info.
Much of it i was totally unarawe of
my father said kids who had a dysfunctional family or divorced parents use to watch the brady bunch use to watch her and Shirley Jones and play in their heads that one or the other was their actual mother.
At 1:53, I remember that Got Milk ad. Mama Partridge, Mama Brady, but who was the middle Mama?
The "mom" from Happy Days.
Mama Cunningham!
Halpin2006 the happy days mom
Sit on it.
Lol!
R.I.P. Florence Henderson
it was so sad when she died. I hear she was a 'top-notch' hypnotist too! Did she hypnotize Susan Olsen?
She really was a lovely lady, both onscreen & off👍
ROBYN MARKOW Yes if you like crabs.
Timothy Bensel Bensel That's just v.crude of you to write that ;at least she admitted it. I mean, geez,no ones perfect!

I think at one point she insisted on some type of vocal solo per season of the show. She has some serous pipes!! This is kind of a rumor.
In 1988 they had a Brady bunch movie I never saw it I don't know why it's not aired on television during Xmas
What a lovely lady!
Yeah, I was shocked when she passed away. She seemed so full of life, however, I later found out that she had a history of heart failure. Media today is so timid and sh*tty, you almost have to find this stuff out by accident.
If her parents were so poor, why would they have 10 children?
That's ridiculous.

I thought cloris leachman was the oldest contestant on dancing with the stars?
Ben Wass bb
That's what I immediately thought too. After checking their ages, Cloris was the oldest. They got it wrong. So much for the untold "truth".
Her eyes really creep me out @ 0:19
what is the name of the background music ?
RIP Florence
Sounds like a really nice lady who had a really great life. Cool.
R.I.P
Sadly this woman was survived by several older siblings, despite being the youngest, really unfortunate.
She was also a Delta Zeta. 💗💚🐢
You just never know under all that sweetness with people though!!
Notification Squad!

I wonder why Tawny Kitane never liked her.
not just Tawny but a lot of other people, mostly her surreal life cast mates. been a while since I've seen it
PreyForForgiveness tawny was so nuts on surreal life i think she was on heavy drugs (prescription) the whole time
She was married to the lead singer of White Snake......so yeah, she definitely got a screw loose.
Tawny
+Mowac Yeah she like black weiner 😝 👎
I grew up watching The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family but if I had a choice definitely The Partridge Family cuz David Cassidy brought all those sexy hot little babes around PS Florence I wish before you pass if you could have told us if you tried turning Robert Reed straight rip Florence
The only one I liked was Alice.
Dr. Hugh Bumazz really did she ever make you a sandwich lol

Susan Olsen (Cindy) was an adorable little girl and a pretty teenager and young adult. Now, she's butt ugly! Her plastic surgery ruined her looks.
