«42» it's from Rey Bradbury's book. (Not 47, but I think this man meant this book ,he just forgot the number).
Shortly : in this story people made a super-smart computer, the smartest intellect ever, for the only reason : to ask him about meaning of life. And he said : I have to think, it's a hard question. I need 7,5 million years to think. And 7,5 million years after he gived an answer to grandgrandsons of those people : « 42 ». ( it sounds silly but a book is really interesting and philosophical )

Hello Cari and Easy German! It's my first time commenting after watching several videos!
Every episodes, I'm amazed how Germans give honest answers to simple, but sometimes intricate questions.
I guess it is impossible to expect such a good quality of responses from street interview in Asia(when asked just in the middle of the street out of nowhere!). And the realistic direction of these videos are so briliant!!
It helps me grasp the general character and tendency of Germans. And of course motivates me to study German harder :-) Thank you for amazing videos!! I hope to be interviewed someday when I visit Germany :)

Funny that most of the people answer "to be happy" when they spend their entire lives studying and working in something they don't like. Just a couple of them realised that (sadly) the meaning of their life is to work and others said "to survive". Super interesting video, thanks.

The use of 'sinn' in this video might *finally* help me remember that 'sinnvoll' translates to meaningful. It sounds exactly like the English word 'sinful' and it's very hard to block out that very different English meaning when I here 'sinnvoll' used! Thanks for this video :)
A tip for Dana's tips. If you're going to point out that there are two words that "mean the same thing", it might be nice to say a word or two about the difference between them or when you would use one rather than the other. (In this particular case, I can certainly look it up.)
By the way, we have the same distinction in English. If the "meaning" of something is not clear, we can say that it doesn't make "sense." We can also talk about getting a sense for a passage (i.e. getting an idea of what it means.) A senseless tragedy is one without meaning.

Der Sinn des Lebens ist meines Erachtens, sich zu einem immer besseren und liebevolleren Menschen zu entwickeln und bei allem Tun und Streben stets im Auge zu behalten, daß das Leben eine Art Schulung ist, deren Ergebnis darüber entscheidet, wie es mit uns nach diesem Leben, auf einer anderen, höheren Ebene weiter geht!
Oder noch kürzer auf den Punkt gebracht: Der Sinn unseres Lebens ist - Gott mit all unseren Kräften und Fähigkeiten aus ganz aufrichtig aus tiefstem Herzen zu lieben und unsere Mitmenschen, wie uns selbst!
Leider hat der heutige Wohlstand, durch den zunehmenden Glaubens- und Wertverfall viele Menschen den eigentlichen Sinn des Lebens vergessen lassen!

First, it is very good that you use the alternatives of ä, ö, ü and ß! And your German is on a good way, there is no real influence of English grammar, maybe the interpunction was influenced, but not a big deal. Try to work on declension a bit, this was the issue with 'neues and diese'. 'anhören' is a wrong choice if you refer to a video, you need a verb that refers to viewing not hearing. Also 'anhören' or the better choice 'anschauen' needs to be conjugated, because the conjugated verb goes at the end in a subordinate clause. The English expression 'I will try' and its other forms do not work alone in German, you must specify these _trying_ or in other words it has to be obvious/clear what is meant if you use 'versuchen'.
Dan Thompson I apologize Dan, I didn't mean to make fun of that. Honestly, I suffer from the same issue, my german phrases are often in english grammar
+Fouzi Boumaraf It's okay. I completely understand. It's not easy, but it's getting better...slowly. I just have to listen every day and try speaking as often as possible, even if it's wrong. I guess that's the only way to learn. Let me know if you have any good tips that work for you.

Interesting that the woman's British accent was so labeled in the subscript, especially since the person we believe makes the subscripts has an overpowering (uncureable, really) American accent.
+The Linthicums - Hahaha, actually the subtitles are translated by a british guy :) - we didnt necessarily had to lable the lady as British, we just thought it might be interesting, since her accent was typically British and she also told us she was from Britain :)
