It's weird that even though we live, we don't know the meaning of life. Sometimes we think too much and take life too seriously. Personally, to me, the meaning of life is just to live every minute of it. Enjoy the good food, wonderful nature, the weather, the sun, the sky, socialize with people..etc. Be happy that you exist, you are healthy. You don't need to do something to make your life meaningful. I feel like we take for granted the things that make life meaningful and we are looking for success, people, or something out of this world to make us happy and our life meaningful. I believe no one's life is meaningless. We are all precious the way we are. Thank you for this video💙!
For me the meaning of life is to realize that you are not your mind. If you can observe your thoughts instead of being identified with them, life becomes easier and more joyful.
(native English speaker here) I think the meaning of life involves more than just "having fun" or "doing what you want"--I think it also means fulfilling your obligations--to your family, to your community, to your country. We are both *given* rights and privileges, and it is expected *from* us to fulfill obligations and duties. Here's a great phrase in English--to do right by someone. One should do right by your family, do right by the people around you, do right by your friends. These relationships have to be maintained and cherished, which means doing right by them.

Nice video! I think everyone has a different perspective of what makes life meaningful. My take on this is that the meaning of life is life itself. In other words , the fact that we are able to feel and experience both good and bad things. As individuals, our ability to set personal goals, travel, dream about the future and make friends . I do not agree with those people that say that life is meaningless, but they have a right to think so, this is probably the best they can come up with at this stage of their life. They see life as meaningless for them, but it is not necessarily so for other people. I think that common meaning of life for people is to improve themselves and the world around them according to their understanding of the world they have with as less violence as possible. And to enjoy the process along the way. And the way to fulfill this common idea could be very individual for every person.

This life is temporary, everything in it is going to end no matter how pleasurable or harmful it is, one can live like a king or a beggar but in the end all are going to die and leave everything behind, so we shouldn't focus entirely on the earthly life. I don't think that science gives life a meaning because science deals with phenomena and how they happen, not with what's behind phenomena nor with why they exist, that lies in the domain of religion and the domain of philosophy. I would recommend reading "The Picture of Dorian Gray" as a novel which deals with a man who lives for pleasure without caring about values, if there's one whose life experience qualifies him to tell us about such a way of life then surely it is Oscar Wilde.

I (Mitch) am not a religious person. And I think without religion, it's easy to reach the conclusion that life is meaningless, which is a dangerous thought and can lead to selfishness and narcissism. But, I recently read a lot of what Aristotle said about creativity and I think the venture of perfecting something creative is an infinite but rewarding task, it's challenge is also improved when sharing within a social construct, connecting with others. Therefore it gives huge reward but still humbles you constantly as there is only subjectivity in the creative arts. This is something that gives my life meaning. How about you?
Actually, doing what someone wants to do is completely awful for mental state, and it causes deteriorating of it in the long run. It is scientific based fact. Nobody can do whatever he/she pleases, because it is even scientifically impossible... These may sound trivial, but these are really dangerous ideas.
This thing about depression, well, it is a complex mental state, so saying that life is too short to be depressed is just so wrong for people who are struggling with illness. It is wrong from scientific perspective, because it is not a decision, it is combination of couple of factors. I will not suppose what he meant by that, because I am not him. He surely said incorrect sentence, from many standpoints. I do think depressed people should disregard misconceptions as such and find educated opinion from licenced therapeut/psychiatrist/psychologist, because depression is a form of illness and it should be viewed as such.
Rumination about past is bad as well, just as it is thinking about past traumas, because human being cannot move forward in mind. If I am not mistaken, it is even not suggested to go back to such traumatic events in this manner and so often, quite the opposite, person who encountered such horrors should strive to find order and think about good and positive things, do positive things that will make him/her happy...
Not thinking or deciding about future, well, that is even worse. Every man is respinsible for his future, and people do have reason and purpose to strive for.

Well, I disagree with the philosophy student, because there are branches who certainly dispute the nihilism. Nihilism itself was subject of couple of theorists, who have different view on nihilism, what it is, etc. If he sonewhat is trying to claim, which he is not, but if he is claiming that he is authority in philosophy, then, he is lying and negates his words and his claims by even claiming such thing. Nihilism is disregarded anyway, due to many reasons, so we can say that there is a meaning of life. Couple of schools claim there is...
About hapiness, there is nothing wrong in doing activities that provide joy, but I would disagree about goal. Probably the goal is to do activities that are good and productive, doing better things for society at large, and have time for loved ones, so happiness is more desired outcome. Finding higher purpose and noble goals is great, but certainly is arduous and not applicable to everyday life, so, it cannot be universal and path that will all humans take. Greek philosophers would certainly throw away all these purposes as rubbish, because everyday experience is not counted in some branches. However, lots of people would agree that there is nothing wrong in everyday experience. And so do I.
