When you pass you can block gear change when you are learning go through the gears just a suggestion that’s what I did I went through the gears one by one keep it basic simple as you got a lot of pressure during a driving test

Palm technique and 0 pressure on top don't grip the knob. Practice while learning and if you don't do while learning thunk I know what I'll change what I normally do as you will mess it up. Also if you feel any resistance and are pushing up you are about to select first. The gearbox will not allow you to select unless the wheels are at correct speed. With 0 pressure., or you force it in . Gear changes should be light pressure

@@wrightwoodwork LOVE!!!!! great advice. Listen to the car - if it feels wrong, it IS wrong. It is possible for students to push through the car rejecting 1st gear selection unfortunately. So if they feel resistance it’s important to think “that feels wrong, it must be wrong” and try again. Feeling the ‘neutral position’ with confidence is vitally important for gear changes to 3rd and 4th and can be a great aid to knowing where the gear stick is when selecting any other gear
