ah, i'm glad they touched on the miyazaki influence! this pixar movie definitely felt the most slice-of-life-y and ghibli-ish compared to other films :D
Agreed! It had the most obvious influence of any Pixar or Disney film I’ve seen, I wish more western film makers would tap into that.. slice of life/it’s more about the theme and feeling than the plot take I guess you could call it. The small details that make up what real life is like makes for beautiful film making in my opinion.
I adore this movie. Its feels so familiar, so warm, it has the simplest things to make you happy to watch it again and again. Also I am learning Italian and will visit The Cinque Terre. I want to stay in Monterroso. I watched a tv program about this place before the movie and I felt in love with it. Now that I saw the movie I am more anxious to reach my dream. I am knowing the actors in this video and now I am living their happiness through their testimonies. Really, this is one of the warm hearted and lovely story Disney ever had. Sorry if my English is bad.

I also traveled to the same place because of the movie, and loved everything about Italy!
I like how when they show clips of the producers in Italy taking pictures of the details you can find some parts of the town that Luca was based on and I find it really great how they captured the details so precisely

The casting for the voice actors was spot on
As an Italian spending my vacations in Camogli (where the crew went to take reference pictures), this movie feels nostalgic and heartwarming at the same time. I absolutely love the impact that this movie is having on foreigners and their view on Italy, I've never seen so many people wanting to come to visit and learn Italian. So happy.
This "behind the scenes" has been brought to you by the Italian Tourism Department. "Oh, wait, we forgot the scenes stuff... O well, at least there's scenery."
"These friendships that help us find ourselves, that is really what's at the heart of this story."
That's why, unpopular opinion (because I know a lot of fans portray them as lifelong life partners), I would actually be cool with Alberto and Luca not being as close over the years as their life paths clearly diverge and Luca spends most of his year in Genova and Alberto settles into Portorosso. Because whether they remain best friends or whether they remain friends but other people become their best friends as they change, it wouldn't take away how much they changed each other in that summer. And some friendships - a lot of friendships, actually - aren't the same closeness forever, but that doesn't make them any less important or special for it.
I think it says a lot about us as people that the fandom can't bear this thought, portrays them as the most central relationships in each other's lives long into the future despite us only really seeing a week or two in their lives and them going their seperate ways afterwards.
Alberto and Luca are fourteen and thirteen respectively in summer. For those in the US, that's middle school, or, given that it's summer, just getting ''out'' of middle school. There are plenty of friends that helped shaped me as a person and challenged my interests and helped me stay sane in those years that I really haven't seen or talked too much since - not because they aren't important but because we grew into different people and life carried us in different directions.
Alberto and Luca each have a lot of changing to do, and they're inevitably not going to be making most of those changes alongside each other. And that's okay. It doesn't make their two weeks of friendship any less formative or important.
I think it's so beautiful how much love people have put into Luca. 🥰 The film is wonderful in its own way and I would love to have a second part.

I saw a video and they said that they started recording in the beginning of the first lockdown, but they did a lot of research so I think it took 1,5 or 2 years :)))
According directly to director Casarosa, his answer on this on Twitter is that it took them 5 years for the whole project.
And yeah I have the same feeling. On the exact moment it ended, I wanted to watch sequel right away

Most Pixar movies take 5 years, also sequelwise, Pixar has guaranteed no up coming sequels so if there even is one, it’ll take several years at least.
We don't need more sequels but a 2d tv show would be cool am I right?

One of the best movie for kids and not only in the past 20 years.
Fun fact: The card Luca finds is Page of Cups, associated in Tarot with new friendships, awakening emotions, and wild, childlike imagination. He finds it near a clock, meaning it's time to enter a world of new emotions, which he shortly does.

It theatrical run was skipped due to COVID 19 but it did manage to play in drive in theaters and movie theaters in cities with relaxed COVID restrictions, those who saw it in theaters needed proof of vaccination or negative test to attend.

Yeah, the characters don't visually resemble Miyazaki characters, but I think the essense of his characterization is definitely felt here, with a mix of Pixar and Aardman's visual style
