The song is only a note or two out of his belt, the word bird is on an F note, he can belt to E note or D# at least, and his high belting is amazing, I'm not that good!
HeyJoJoTF2 You could do it too. It's all about mix voice man. I wasn't impressed by the screechy head voice, but he did an amazing job in his belted notes harmonizing alex's chorus.
Easy As That Piano My head voice only came in the past 3 months, I'm still learning to use it on it's own, don't really know how to mix, but I can belt my chest up to B and it's light and open so it might be mixed, I can use pure head voice up to D#5 but it's not great on that note. I'm figuring out how to use more head voice in my chest area to make singing easier, I did it last Friday in rock choir singing Rhythm is gonna get you, being warmed up in the evening makes a huge difference, even in the afternoon I get quite good high chest and top head voice notes.
I don't know what voice type I am, my breaks aren't high, but my bass range is solid to Bb2 which is tenor, in the morning and when not warmed up too much it's a good G/A. Typical high singer, but most of my range is usable.
My falsetto is a different story, lots of range, a whistle, can be belted, can sound good, can sound shrilly, rocky, operatic, blended into chest.
I don't know how much of that makes sense, I have a more technical approach because it's easier for me to understand and communicate accurately. Rather than "my girly voice is high and low, and I can sing very high in normal voice"
I quite like Max's rock tone, it actually makes his voice interesting and sound intense, had to get used to his falsetto because it creeped me out for no reason, but it's Ok now, very riffy and thin
A few people are saying in the first chorus Max sings to high. But actually, its amazing that he can even sing that high without being pitchy, he also sounds really good while doing it. I've never ever seen a male singer that can sing as well as Max c:

Haha that's true, he's singing very high. But I also have a friend that I harmonize with, and he can sing falsetto. Higher than me even, so I'm stuck singing On My Own when he sings this song so easily.....

No, it was his head voice. It's not rare for a male to have a high pitched head voice. (it's kinda the whole point of having a "head voice")

Falsetto stretches the vocal folds by lengthening the distance between their fixtures (the larynx mechanism is a rather complex contraption with various muscle groups changing the overall geometry). Chest voice, however, also involves tightening the muscles at the base of the vocal folds themselves, so it changes the consistency of the folds, not "just" their length. Understand the difference now?

I absolutely love this cover. It shows you that testing the boundaries can create something beautiful, and not every one needs to follow the specific melody for a cover. The whole idea of covering a song is putting your own spin on it, making it to you. not just copying the artist. Much love.

I honestly don't know about you guys, but guys who are singers and can pull off falsetto this smooth are amazing. Like for Max to have his falsetto so strong like this, is hot. I'm personally such a sucker for guys who can sing in their falsetto and proudly show it off. It hella made me fangirl and melt while listening to this.

I really love both of their voice, they're very talented. But my ears really can't support this cover, voices don't mix up as well as they should so it sounds like a bunch of screams. I don't think their voices are done to be harmonize, and it's really bad because they're really awesome, and talented singers.

it's called "dissonance" and it's done on purpose. you actually have to be very talented to pull it off well, and it's intended to make you uncomfortable. i've never heard it in vocals before, at least not pop ones. It's typically used in symphonies and classical music. So, basically, they sounded bad on purpose and my guess would be b/c that kind of discord is reflective of the theme of the song.

Under no circumstances, I want to criticize their job because I won't be able to do a half of that.

I saw/heard his song 'Darling' first and I was like, hmm pretty good, not gonna lie, but just to make sure I'll watch/listen to another one. And I picked Chandelier because if you can nail Chandelier you're pretty much set. (ahah jks, but Chandelier is an incredibly hard song to sing if you don't want to sound like a screechy pig)
The harmonies = perf. Some would disagree, particularly at the beginning when Max sings falsetto. First of all, kudos for being able to sing it, not screech it, and second I think that's what Chandelier is about. Chandelier is a raw, dark, gritty emotional - desperate song, and its vocals - well, Sia, does an amazing job at conveying the anguish and desperation and resignation in the original. In doing so, she sings it so that when I first heard it, it kind of rubbed me up the wrong way - it was almost off. But that's kind of why I loved it; it challenged the 'accepted' formula for a pop song.
Max singing falsetto and singing with these kind of harmonies, it rubbed me up the wrong way. But it certainly challenged the way covers of this song should be made, and it was unique and it WORKED (for me) because Chandelier is such a... twisted song, that you can play around with the textures of the song. And again, damn the textures of THIS cover were amazing. Of course, it'd only work with a song like Chandelier, or maybe with one of Lorde's pieces, but YES. Long story short - it's pretty damn cool. Good job.

Both beautiful voices, but like you said, you took a risk making this cover and I don't think it worked out. Your voices don't match together nicely but separately this song would work out gorgeously for both of you. Still wasn't disappointed, though ;).

They don't have microphones in front of them and the sound is a bit too perfect to be recorded live, even though they can sing incredibly good. So yes, they do.
