- On January 5, 2025, Etihad Airways Flight EY461, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner bound for Abu Dhabi, aborted its takeoff at Melbourne Airport due to technical reasons, causing two main landing gear tires to burst. Emergency services quickly responded, using foam to prevent potential fire hazards, while all 289 passengers and crew were safely evacuated. The incident led to the closure of the runway for over 12 hours, causing significant delays and disruptions. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau commended the crew for following standard procedures and decided not to conduct a formal investigation. Etihad Airways apologized for the inconvenience and reiterated its commitment to passenger and crew safety.
