A very fine song, sung by a very fine singer. It is a pleasure to listen to someone singing within their range, knows the words, and is pleasant to listen to. Good show!
You must be proud of your dad. He was with one of the greatest groups known to man. I grew up listening to the Drifters and bought every "45" they made. I still have some of them.
The lead singer is Clyde Brown and he took over from Bill Fredericks in the seventies. An adequate replacement but it took awhile for him to get into the Drifter Style. Sang part lead on your More Than A number In My Little Red Book.
This song is just as cool as any other version given the fact this was a karaoke style merrily sung song in an informal setting - an effortless and natural rendition. Bravo Clyde Brown
The Drifters' version of the song spent three non-consecutive weeks at number one on the U.S. pop chart, in addition to logging one week atop the U.S. R&B chart. In the UK, the Drifters' recording reached number two in December 1960. This single was produced by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, two noted American music producers who at the time had an apprentice relationship with a then-unknown Phil Spector.
@rockinvol Is this the previous line up before the songs "The Boardwalk" and "On Broadway" and "Up On The Roof". I saw a guy sining "On Broadway" and I am wondering who he is. I would like to know. So how long was Ben E. King in The Drifters for?
Listen to SAVE THE LAST DANCE FOR ME *NEW ARRANGEMENT* (Drifters cover) by The Hyltons #np on #SoundCloud soundcloud.com/the-hyltons/save-the-last-dance-for-me-new-arrangement
@karntnisleians actually not entirely true. The man who wrote the lyrics was crippled and his wife was a broadway dancer. The song was a tribute to her telling her not to give up her love (dancing) for him and all he asks is for the last dance. quite sweet actually

Clyde Brown singing here, took over from Bill Fredericks at the time, a hard act to follow. Took him a while to settle in but he became a good member.Still around today? What's he doing now? Could help out the current line up? Thought he might have popped up with Charlie Thomas and his Drifters, wish they could come to the UK.
This is wonderfully rare footage of the Drifters lineup during the mid-1970's when the lineup was Billy Lewis [thank you, EFIT2010], Johnny Moore aka/Johnny Darrow, Joe Blunt and Clyde Brown. This performance is probably from the BBC in England where in the 1970's The Drifters were still a popular vocal group. To those music purists such as myself who appreciate an uploader's information as to where, when & who comprise these Drifters, one of these four may be baritone/bass Bill Fredricks.
My most favorite song ever. I was about five when this song came out, My mother liked to dance and she taught me how But my dad did not dance but he never minded that she danced with other men or went on a girls night out to a club. :)
@sanjeewa61802 Clyde McPhatter had already left the Drifters by this time. It was the last single that Ben E. King did with the Drifters in the fall of 1960.
HALLOW to every body out there tonight hope you injoy the musice so just sit back and relax from des in the REPUBLICK of Ireland in dublin . INJOY for the next two hrs . From . DES .
I remember seeing the Drifters as a teenager at home in the UK. I also saw the Harlem Globetrotters and I thought how tall, lean and athletic everyone from America looked. My other favourite was Fats Domino and I came state side, saw him on TV, and WOW! there went that perception...lol

Why the hell do they want to ruin such a classic track by singing it at this speed, were they in a hurry to get home or being paid by the minute?

this must be about 1975 because one of those guys is Butch Leake, not Joe Blunt.
My father was Grant L. Kitchings who with in 1974
This was the best line up
Look at my grandpa Billy Lewis 🤣

They were a class act. A bit higher class with the violins and such.
@sanjeewa61802 Clyde McPhatter had already left the Drifters by this time. It was the last single that Ben E. King did with the Drifters in the fall of 1960.
Next to last. Last Dance released August 1960, then I Count the Tears released Dec 1960.
Looking good Ventura. Looking and sounding like a true "Tiger".
