- Written by Bobby Darin who recorded his composition on March 5, 1959 with Neil Sedaka on piano, Dream Lover was released as a single the following month, produced by Ahmet Ertegun and Jerry Wexler and engineered by Tom Dowd,. It was number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States and number 1 on the UK's New Musical Express chart for four weeks during July 1959.
"Dream Lover" is a classic love song that has stood the test of time. It is a beautiful and moving ballad that will continue to be enjoyed by audiences for many years to come.

This past December 20 marked the 50th anniversary of his passing (It’s February 2024 as I post this comment.) He died on 12/20/1973 of heart failure I believe, at the young age of 37. May he RIP.
He died on an operating table 1973. Daddy told me first open heart surgery.
It is a shame that he is largely forgotten, Bobby Darin was an amazing performer.

He & Elvis were friends. Great singers, both gone too soon!
I always took Ricky Nelson for granted, but yeah. when you look at the time zone. he was truly one of the groundbreakers!

Bought this 45 rpm in 1958 when I was 16 and played it over and over in my Mums kitchen while she prepared meals for 20 boarders. She threatened to break it if I didn’t stop! This was when we British kids were waking up to the new exciting music coming over from the States--The King, The Killer--Paul Anka- The Everlys-- Chuck Berry and many more. It was the greatest time ever to be young, hot music, hot summer nights and even hotter girls! 65 years later, I have to pinch myself to to believe I was ever that young and really happened! Where did those years go??

My dad had a big collection of 45s he would play on his hifi console. This little gem was one of those songs. I always loved this song. Handsome fella. Great voice. Another wonderful talent taken from us all too soon.

The greatest of all, Bobby deserved more success but was greatly underrated. I will never forget him, I listen to his songs every day, he will always be in my heart. Immense, unsurpassed and amazing talent. My beloved Bobby Darin.

I was born in 1951 so grew up in the best era for music the 50’s and 60’s and thanks to TH-cam we can still see and hear this amazing music 🎵🤘🏼💕🎸

I met an american sailor in Halifax,Canada and he sang this this song to me.I had never heard it before as I was alot younger than him.He wrote to me for a very long time.He was one of the nicest guy I had ever met.I was just 16.
Real forgotten class. Where is it today. I was born in 1936 and so enjoy this music.

Sammy Davis Jr. said that Bobby was the only performer that he was fearful of following on stage. I think that early on Jim McGuinn was his guitarist at one time. Bobby told him that if he was going to make it big he had to get in to rock and roll.
I've always loved this song thanks to my dad's influence. I didn't know this is what he looked like though. So handsome! They don't come like this anymore. But so sad that he died way too young
