From Oban, I often get a strong cider taste (strong as in abv rather than the whisky tastes heavily of cider). Like a bitter apple taste that is sometimes quite tart and sour, with a bit of an initial bite. That's the closest thing I could personally correlate.
Before lockdown, I used to attend official tastings of the full range with Colin Dunn, but since 2019 it's been patchy. I nearly missed this year's altogether, but spotted the glowing-eyed Wildcat (Felis silvestris) on a shelf at The Pot Still recently, so I had to try that. It was good, but a bit too feisty for me and I think someone accidentally added a "1" (as in hundred) to the bottle price, so I won't be buying it... I might try to track down a dram each of the two you liked, though.
Unfortunately I've still not managed to figure out that tasting note... 🤔
