      @bill bittner I'm about to college in a year or so. And I'm hoping to go to a good college and get a bachelor's degree in nursing. Afterwards maybe importing an r34 gtt or an Evo 8 or 9. You have ur dream now! But hopefully I can reach mine too!

    Evo owner here - I totally agree with this review. The STI is a bit more "well rounded" and is better as a daily. My Evo is sometimes a pain in the ass but when I want to have fun, it is VERY fun.

      Seriously, take it with a grain of salt, Mistubishi have been MILES ahead of Subaru for a VERY long time, and it's only up until the recent WRX/STi (god forbid its horrid ass looks) that it has even come CLOSE to the EVO, whether it be the 5-speed ADM model GSR, or the JDM 6-speed GSR, and, the MR ranges.

    Have owned an STI and currently own an Evo 9, the cars aren't even in the same ball park when it comes to performance. The Evo is much better at everything and the gap only gets bigger when you start to mod them. I find his critique of the Recaro seats comical when the USDM STI/WRX seats are probably some of the worst seats I have ever sat in when it comes to a "sports" car. I had to do the seat spring mod on my STI just to make them somewhat acceptable. I have daily driven my 9 for almost 6 years now so I guess the reviewer either has a crazy long commute in mind or just doesn't appreciate a raw car because I love driving it every day. I will say I won't take the 9 on road trips over 500 miles, it does become brutal at that point. I'm currently trying to Justify an Audi S3 as a daily driver so I can make the Evo a garage queen but it's just so much fun to drive I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger. TLDR; Evo 9 > STI ringland eater and it isn't even close. Also the Lotus you mentioned is not quick and does not take to mods like a 4G63, that's why you wouldn't get a Lotus...

    • @lukebrunner1636
      @lukebrunner1636 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I guess it just depends if the car was poorly cared for before you got it. I've had my evo 9 for almost 6 years, running at 28psi of boost and the car has not had one issue. The only things I've had to replace are the usual wear and tear items like tires, oil, clutch, brake pads, etc... Sorry about the Scooby man, good luck with your next car choice. If I was to get a Subaru again it would be a pre 2007 STi.

    • @lukebrunner1636
      @lukebrunner1636 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +David F (dtf96) exhaust,tune,boost controller,hard ic pipes and fuel pump. Evos have a bigger stock turbo than stis so they can run more boost. my biggest gripe with stis besides the glass engines is they have 0 top end stock because they come with a pea shooter turbo. :/

    • @lukebrunner1636
      @lukebrunner1636 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +David F (dtf96) I know the feeling haha. As long as you enjoy the car is all that matters. Good clean evo 9s (best usdm model) are still going for over 20k so I think you are doing alright for what you spent on your scoob.

    • @lukebrunner1636
      @lukebrunner1636 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ilisha Mas Based on what? Evos with a 4g63 can reliably handle 500+ hp and take to mods very well. stis get iffy when going stage 2 lol(less than 400 hp) I guess if you like having no top end, crappy seats and a glass engine the sti is a better buy. But what do I know, I've only owned and modded both cars. :)

    • @kongzillagod
      @kongzillagod 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ilisha Mas still is cheaper to buy. no way. subarus are very popular and young and old car enthusiasts are willing to pay big money to get them , so guess what they sell email higher priced not to say they are truly worth that high price tag. just like the supra. before the movies 🎥 came out especially the fast and furious supra would pass by the auction block a few times before people would buy. now forget about it

    Female EVO IX SE driver here (61K since new). I think the look on your face said it all! I would agree with much of your review. However the steering on the EVO is much better than the STI which has little feel to me. The EVO is like driving a giant go-cart. The STI is much more prone to understeer also. The bad points for the EVO on a daily driver basis is the awful AWFUL turning circle and the lack of creature comforts. Also servicing is a problem with few dealers in my area of Portland, Oregon. I have been asked the most ridiculous questions at Mitsubishi such as "is it an automatic". My friends call it my "race car with a radio". I continually get very enthusiastic comments (often from STI drivers who are amazed to see a middle aged female driver) on the car and it is 8 years old.

    • @dwhit4679
      @dwhit4679 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea i live in Medford OR and service with the dealers here are whack too. And handling in the Evo is much more responsive and better

    you don't buy an Evo for a comfortable ride. wow you had to mention it so many times... That's like buying a sports car and expecting it to have good gas mileage. i had to thumbs down.

  • @fdjkvc
    @fdjkvc 10 ปีที่แล้ว +37

    Evo guys, quit getting butt hurt. The majority of what he said is absolutely true. I have a IX and it isn't my daily driver nor would it ever be. It is not a comfortable car to be in and has the turning radius of a battleship, which can be a pain sometime. But it puts a huge smile on my face when its time to have fun. He's right, the Evo is a no nonsense track car for the street. The STI has a better balance of performance and comfort. Both are awesome! Besides, its his review, if you want your opinions to be heard, make your own. Nice vid.

    • @azza9423
      @azza9423 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Its not that they are butthurt persay, just some people dont like hearing the truth, at the end of the day:
      WRX/STi= better DAILY driver car
      EVO= Better performance driver car...
      definately excellent for weekend warriors though... which is a good thing if you are like me and stack massive mileage commuting to work and thus have a cheap bomb of a car to do it in.

    • @CountryBoyDak

      Evo got the best 4WD system in the world.
      There are always Evo vs STI street battle in Hong Kong just like WMMT. Usually Evo’s engine can be modify more. The STI is a more driver friendly car and a little bit cheaper.

    Yes the Evos~ One of Mitsubishi's best models for sure~ You don't get cars like this from them anymore, and that's a shame~ I think the Evo VII or VIII is my favourite iteration of the car~

  • @MattMaranMotoring
    @MattMaranMotoring  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I do mention back seat room in some of the cars I review, if I think it matters to the people interested in the car. An Evo is on the hardcore side so I didn't bother. This car is about average backseat size, you can fit 3 adults back there fine as long as the people sitting up front aren't fairly tall.

    A friend of my brother had a yellow Evo this body style and he had a Ford Lightning before it. He didn't have the Evo very long because he couldn't ever get used to how crazy the car was (and the cops loved it lol). It had a bigger turbo and intercooler, plus methanol injection I think. And this coming from a guy who also owns an early 2000s Corvette Z06. Good review.

    Like your review but want to do some notes here.
    Not all of the interior is made from hard plastic, second the clutch is hard because is on its way or the hydraulic pumps are bad, when new the clutch has been light, steering is very precise and the right weight, noises are there because there is very little sound proofing in this cars.

    The evo steering rack slow?? pfff ok buddy

    • @GrandCamino6
      @GrandCamino6 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Evo IX has a 13:1 ratio steering rack taking 2.1 turns lock to lock and a 06 STi has a 15.2:1 ratio steering rack and takes 2.7 turns lock to lock. It looks like the STi got a 13:1 steering ratio rack for the 2015 model year. Not apples to apples. At freeway speeds in my old Evo VIII and Evo IX MR SE I've sneezed and started to enter another lane. It was extremely quick rack that requires your undivided attention at 100% of the time. No texting and driving for sure lol

    • @MannyFresh1x
      @MannyFresh1x 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      +GrandCamino6 Exactly he's biased and doesn't want to give the evo credit. Even the Roads Untraveled reviewer said the thing he loved most about the evo is it's quick steering.

    • @GrandCamino6
      @GrandCamino6 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MannyFresh1x That was by far the favorite about the two that I owned. It reminded me of the invader go-cart that I had when I was a child. You can see when he's going through the turns that he's barely turning the wheel on the curvy road that he took it on.

    • @MannyFresh1x
      @MannyFresh1x 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +GrandCamino6 I love mine and it's a DD I have no problem with my seats or suspension. Hell I drove the car home 143 miles from where I bought it and they were quite comfortable. Yeah until he exaggerated turning his whole body with the wheel :P. On his subie reviews everything is perfect even the hard plastic silver interior he said was "nice".

      @GrandCamino6 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MannyFresh1x I daily drove mine as well. Pretty expensive car to daily but I think the rewards are well worth it. I think I'll eventually get another one but not a X. It still hasn't grown on me. I'd like to give an RS a whirl.

    Can't compare steering feel or initial steering angle with snow tires! The rack on the evo is faster than the STI. Not sure about the FRS but it's probably similar to the EVO. I'm not sure if many cars have a faster rack.
    Also, The Elise doesn't have 4 doors :)

    Off point on boost evo 9 turbo spools up at 3500
    Evo 8 turbo spools up at 3200
    Stock boost is 18psi, mitsubishi made it this way due to a law regarding advertise horsepower. Once you mod the evo vs a modded subaru the evo just dominates. If you want a daily car get a civic for comfort and mpg
    Yes im an evo guy I got your quote earlier about rolling eyes lol

    the way you described this car, is exactly the same as my stage 1 2011 wrx. Stiff, uncomfortable, laggy, but a ton of fun and makes a great noise. im going on 170k miles but i will keep this thing until it rusts out

    if you want a suby or evo and your thinking of cranking up the horsepower with mods buy the evo.. their motor is strong with a weak transmission.. the sti motor is weak with a strong transmission and it's much cheaper to modify a transmission to handle power over an engine.. food for thought. plus with the suby every time you wanna put new engine parts in the whole motor has to be yanked out

    • @Kseriessuck
      @Kseriessuck 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BlakeSTI93 so the evo will make more hp than the wrx sti without the engine having problems? Kinda true ive seen more 800 hp evos than 800 hp wrx's but which would be better ? Wrx sti or evo 9

    • @AMRsti93

  • @whereisbenzo

    The Evo IX RS is possibly in my opinion the best Evo ever made. Why? Because the 5 spd is better than the 6 (because it can handle more power) and the RS is the lightest of the bunch.

    Just want to point out that the Evo 9 has a quicker ratio rack than the STi.. So what he's saying about the steering doesn't really make sense. Maybe he's talking about the brand new STi? I absolutely LOVE the steering in my 9 MR, and have driven an 06 STi extensively. Not as good steering-wise for sure.

  • @odalisrodriguez5647
    @odalisrodriguez5647 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the evo 9 is a great car better then Subaru, the body is gorgeous, one thing that I have to say about this review is, this guy agrees and disagrees on everything he says makes no sense. Plus he doesn't put the car to the test to see how it really handles, I personally watched best motoring videos from Japan and I have to tell you that all the reviews about this car are awesome, this car handles really good and the value stays the same, in fact I like this one better then the newest model... • @Atreyu96

    After owning both an Evo and STI:
    Evo IX = easy power, more power for same mods as STI, driver's car, better steering feel, larger turbo, more noisy, seats less confortable, closed-deck iron block.
    STI = better DD, a bit quieter, insane off-boost torque, smaller stock turbo, bulletproof 6-speed, stock engine can't handle high boost.

    • @amberlampz
      @amberlampz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Atreyu96 What about the handling? we're you ever able to upgrade the STI's handing to match the evo's? I've never driven a evo but I own an STI and it understeers when pushed to the limit.

      Most of the Subarus we're weak in handling untill the 2015+ models. They upped their game handling wise. My friend had a 2011 Sti and a 2015 WRX. He said the WRX handles better stock vs stock.
