I have listened to far too much AJR, which is what makes me qualified to react to their newest project "OK ORCHESTRA"
Tracklist for Part 1:
1. OK Overture
2. Bummerland
3. 3 O'Clock Things
4. My Play
5. Joe
6. Adventure Is Out There
7. Bang!

They grew up on Disney but this don’t feel like Disney.
But… it dont feel like Disney.
With the line “I believed in God back in ‘09, always f*cking b*tches at the same time,” AJR cleverly comments on religious hypocrisy, in addition to demonstrating a strong sense of self-reflection not seen on their previous projects. Superb. 8.6/10

thats not the lyrics though the original was always down to hang he had no time. its meant to say joe would make empty plans and promises backing out last minute. the line you put is just a bad parody and about as repetitive in todays culture as they come.

Joe is not actually about a school bully, rather it is about someone you deeply admire that you don’t really talk to anymore. I can’t really give the explanation justice but they talked about it on their livestream earlier today
Glad someone said it. Genius stuff isn't always accurate. But yeah Ryan talked about how Joe is about someone that is a sort of Godly figure in your life that you look up to and even possibly take parts of your personality from. Its having someone that you want to be just like and, even years down the road, you might still think about due to having this inexplicable admiration for them.
Reading AJR fans’ comments is almost as excruciating as the actual music
Really? I was assuming that Joe was hinting towards Joseph or God. He mentions God a lot in the song. Look at the lyrics.
Something about the lines “you could make her laugh in a real way “doesn’t seem like something a childhood bully would do

I feel like there are ways to bring up politics in songs like this if your politics are actually a part of who you are. I know Pat the Bunny often made it work because his passion and values were core to the struggles he sang about, and he actually had something interesting to say around that. It all fit together well. When AJR does it it feels unfocused, as you said.
Yeah, I agree. I listen and like AJR but I hate when they throw in these weird and unwarranted social commentaries in a song that isn't about politics. If you're gonna make a song about this shit just make another American Idiot or something

I think the title of this album references Weezer's latest album Ok Human, which is definitely a reference to Ok Computer. As someone who usually despises this group, listening to these reactions has been interesting in me trying to figure out what’s at all redeeming about what they do since their production ideas are interesting.
Listening to more of their songs, AJR are far more suited to making hip hop beats for other people to rap on than trying to turn those beats into full pop songs on their own. When the drum loop is in and they’ve got their samples in there it can work, but I think how they choose to expand on it leading to a chorus or their verses and stuff just almost never works for me personally.

just to address the simularity in the way less sad and bummeland melodies, the album has a motif, which is a melody played throughout different peices in different ways, so its intentional, and is usually what orchestras do, like how the avengers theme plays in every movie but is different but with that same melody

I’d love to see you do a review on Tally Hall. A bit less known, and from the earlier 2000’s, but I’ve enjoyed the work they’ve done. If you do check them out be sure to also look into the album Hawaii part II. It was made later on by a few of the members from the original band.
You should react to 16/04/16 by cavetown. It's one of my favorite albums of all time. I don't if it's necessarily something you'd be into but the genre is kind of pop-rock/alternative/indie rock/trap. I don't really know how to explain it but it's a pretty sick album.
