    The English Civil War often falls to the wayside of more popular and contemporary Civil Wars in history, like the American Civil War, Russian Civil War, and Spanish Civil War, but that does not mean it is any less fascinating.
    The English Civil War was fought between Royalist and Parliamentary forces from 1642 to 1651, led by King Charles I of England and Scotland on the Royalist side, and Oliver Cromwell and Parliament on the Parliamentarian side. Despite the rest of British history having been distinctly monarchical and imperial, the Parliamentarian Republicans actually won the Civil War, but failed to maintain the new republic that encompassed the whole of the British Isles, and was known as the Commonwealth.
    Today in this alternate history scenario we ask what if Britain became a republic, and if it stayed a republic under the leadership of the Cromwellians, and what effect would this what if scenario have on not only the British Isles but the colonies as well. Would the Revolutionary War still occur? Would America form? Would Britain still become an empire? (Would Britain join the Central Powers in this alternate timeline???) We'll explain all of that in this alternate history scenario.

    For a long time, Britain was considered the more liberal European country (especially for their rule of law, parliament and separation from both the Catholic and Protestant church) while France was considered the peak European monarchy. This all changed with the French Revolution

    • @Rowlph8888
      @Rowlph8888 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The French Revolution was just a mob hijacking. Britain was Much more liberal of also, e.g.: already a group of countries where Parliament was making all of the decisions and the monarchy was already pretty much ceremonial, in power. Free enterprise and capital were "Mainly" running the country from the 17th century

      no, it doesn't. world history from the perspective of different countries around the world all concur that there was a beheading of Charles I, but English Bill of Rights (1689), a ratification of Parliamentary democracy (1707), because with an already weak year king in William of Orange, scared of being beheaded and with a potentially harmful and weak powerbase in Holland, all leading to the 1st ratified and legally binding liberal society in human history and the king became marginalised, the "whig oligopoly" took over and the king had little power, by1750, the Tory party had 0 power (so couldnt damage the country future, like it has the last 15 years)
      *this was also the reason that nobles on the European continent were storing most of their wealth in "Goldsmiths" of London and the big 3 centralised banks practising fractional reserve investment banking(E.g. Lloyds and Barclays and Bannk of England), the 1st ones other than a bank in Italy, which was also doing so. The difference was that "in England" there was the only country of the earth at the time, where investments and capital were safe from being hijacked unilaterally by a king, or other totally autocratic, which was the case in every other country on the earth, until the development of the USA.
      *This is all documented histor, and irrefutable. Even Voltaire, when running away from backward French culture in 1726, wrote in his book "lettres sur la Anglais" and in letters to friends "I learned to think in England," "England is the land of liberty" and "England Europe had to think."

      Frederick III ruled Germany but already suffered of Cancer when coming on the throne, so the better question would be "what if Frederick III lived longer" Actually this would also change Kaiser Wilhelm II a bit as, he had issues with brits to some extend, blaming his crippled arm and his fathers death on them

    • @_-.-_-_.._--.-_-_----_-.--_._-
      @_-.-_-_.._--.-_-_----_-.--_._- ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The only way Muhammad Ali could have truly defeated the Ottomans, and replaced them is if Europe was distracted in another continental matter. In my timeline, I made the Belgium Revolution of 1830 become a larger affair; whereby Metternich challenges the movement alluding to the Chiffon de Carlsbad and Revolutionary France's involvement, meanwhile the Polish November Uprising fails, Russian mobilization continues and then Austrian fears of renewed French imperialism escalate into staging troops in Piedmont, Italy after the foiled conspiracies in Moderna. Then the Carlist War kicks off in Spain, a bit earlier than our timeline, which is entirely possible given Ferdinand VII's poor health. All this is perfect for a quick war in the Levenant, and if Ali plays his cards right, he can use his projected control of the Holy Land to convince Russia to back down and accept his reign in the condition Russia is named protector of Christians; remember, that was a sore issue, something which 20 years later would cause the Crimean War, so by all stretch of the imagination, is a great bargining chip, something the Ottomans wouldnt do at the time.

    • @alexzero3736
      @alexzero3736 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If Egypt toppled Ottoman Empire, there would be earlier Crimean war, as Russia wanted Bosporus and Constatinople, while Britain wanted to block any further Russian expansion, and France wanted to make some revenge for Bonaparte.

If you ask me, its a crime that our main civil war (there was also the anarchy and the wars of the Roses, neither of which I was taught about in school) has barely a word mentioned in our schools, but american civil rights is a requirement for sixth form (equivalent of 12th grade if I'm not wrong about the american system).

    2:10 it’s important to also point out that Catholicism was still very strong in Northern England. The council of the North was abolished over southern fears that it was becoming too strong and too much of a catholic voice. This is an amazing supposition and change of history. To imagine that an eventual UK would have taken up earlier the later American position of religious tolerance, and more on point, the republican principle of subsidiarity, might have kept in the UK Ireland and possibly India. The UK would remain a truly world power to possibly the present.

    Calling parlimentary rule a "Republic" is a bit misleading. Sure, it technically was by the definition that it was not ruled by a monarch, but it implies that members of the public were more involved in political life than any real person would be. Rather, it was swapping a king for a king-in-all-but-name.

    Are you sure that the Norman descended population in England sided with the parliamentarians and not with the monarchy? I’m just curious what your source is on that. In Colin Woodard’s American Nations book, he actually says that parliamentarians were more likely to see themselves as being descended from the anglo-Saxon peoples who were INVADED by the Normans in 1066, while monarchists were more likely to see themselves as descended from these Norman invaders. Likewise, southern elites in the colonies who would have favored the monarchists also saw themselves as part of this ancestral Norman population and would have seen the puritans of New England as a different people entirely.
