ivanjacob Nope, the Sun is just converting mass - think it as an unusual type of potential energy - into kinetic energy of protons, neutrons, electrons, neutrinos, photons, etc.
+Hermann Göring And I thought all these comments are only full of Jews arguing the meaning of "free", but no - Hermann, ya old pimp, you're here too, how splendid! Wanna get high on codeine and make some prank air attack calls over the radio like in the good ol' days?
If i install a solar panel, or wind generator, i now have 'free energy'. Bullshit! (Don't be a smart-ass, i assume an inverter controller are all hooked up)
In my country, you have 3 different difficulties for high schools. The lowest one basically doesn't have physics, unless you choose it. So there are a lot of people in my country who don't even know this. It's quite helpful, actually, as technical jobs are easy to find.
EEVblog And there you go taking another stab at Christians. If you are so sure of yourself, why do you feel the need to poke fun at them? Perhaps of your insecurities? I "know" I'm right so I don't have to poke fun at atheists. The simple fact that you don't waste an opportunity to call Christians idiots is proof that you aren't very sure in what you proclaim. Go ask a psychiatrist if you don't believe me. I think you need one.
Robert Calk Jr. He didn't single out Christians, he said 'god'. There are other religions, believe it or not. You don't get to pick and chose when you are offended, not that it matters.
Imagine if Man of Stone got together with the Solar Roadways people. His circuit could be used to power their LEDs and road heaters! Actually bugger that, who needs solar panels when you have free energy coming from the vacuum? It won't be long before people of this caliber figure out how to travel faster than the speed of light and make time flow backwards. Then you'll have a big old apology video to make Dave. :)
Amun-Ra hydro energy would be free if it wasn't for R & D costs, maintenance, and staff. I live in pomme land and wind farms produce more power than the grid needs so they have to be turned off or power themselves to burn off the access, what a world we live in -----> www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2893708/New-wind-turbine-farce-power-National-Grid-NOT-generating-electricity.html *sorry if you cant see the story page*
I always thought that a quantum vacuum would be literally a vacuum to suck of Quantums. I mean that is why I bought my one because they promised me that I could vacuum everything with it, so I assumed I could even suck those nasty Quantums out of my carpet. Man I hate those Quantums.
There is a lot of energy in tge aetheric vacuum which drive and make up all charged mass particles that mske everything up. It’s about time this energy is harnessed and not need to burn anything! I find this video interesting, cheers
I don't get how these people lack such foresight as to not realise that such a breakthrough would revolutionise physics, see the scientist made famous for the discovery, and would bring humanity into a new era. Instead they think "everyone ignores us because they dont want free energy".
I think it's still a good thing for people to come up with crazy new ideas, because there's always the odd guy who actually discovers new things about physics, or at least invents a much more efficient circuit for some certain purpose. We can always verify if the idea is bullshit or not.
This just became my number one favorite EEVBlog video of all time. Thanks! This one will get the over unity fan boys beating their chests and cartwheel backwards.
Don't you know motor can have better efficiency than 1, just as heat pump (more than 5 ), so where is the matter with harnesting energy from its environement. Why electric motor couldn't do the same and harnest energy from wave and magnetic fields when heat engines coul do the same with heat. Get an open mind at the closest store, would be better for us all.
fringemind stands Not sure if you are just trolling, or really believe that shit you are saying :-) Do you know, what is efficiency? Sure, you can redefine is as you prefer in order to meet your false expectations. :-)
István Kiss I'm just saying all claims of overunity are not the same, and can be true, and thinking we know every thing is the real bullshit, that's not because one experiment doesn't fit the common thinking that it is bullshit. Look at cold fusion for exemple. And efficiency is just the energy you get in your device divided by the input energy. So yes a heat pump does provide you more heat energy thant the electrique energy you use first. This energy comes from the surrounding space, as it always does and as it might do the same with some smartly design device.
Currently an EE student @ uni and, oddly enough, one of these "free-energy" videos is what got me into electronics (something with a plastic lid, a motor, and some magnets). I suppose I'm trying to atone for my sins lol. Glad you've tackled this.
You're challenging all those "Zero Point" energy stuff that has been polluting youtube and overlaps with UFO conspiracy within youtube for almost a decade now right?
Westley I'm glad at least something positive has come out of those dumb videos. Best Wishes n Blessings from and 30+ year electronics technician. Keith Noneya
How long will this cell run? :) www.amazon.co.uk/The-Crystal-Coherent-Fluctuations-Electric/dp/B00ESD1XT2/ref=sr_1_2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1422169910&sr=1-2&keywords=The+Sustainable+Media+Co-operative
I think dave should have done exactly what I'm wondering in my original post up there, in practice, just to demonstrate that there's nothing to that guy's experiment. Have a well-designed circuit run the LEDs for 100 hours or whatever, to show that there's nothing magical about it, just plain old physics.
***** There's another youtuber by the name of lasersaber who made several videos on crystal cells. He never made any outrageous claims about them. It's basically just a battery with a crystallized electrolyte; nothing magical (or useful for that matter), but still pretty cool.
Reids cells can put out stable power, and have lasted over ten years with no drop in output power, and has the data logs to prove it. They do however require very expensive materials hence the large price tag to acquire one. Labersabers cells are nothing more than galvanic and are not at all comparable to Marcus Reids cells, not even close.
I know this is an older video, but I've watched it multiple times. I can't say how much I LOVE how Dave tackles problems. Intelligently, yes still amusingly.
Thanks for tackling this one Dave :D, I am so sick of seeing videos pop up where somebody wastes an entire hour making some device that does nothing, or can be explained by basic physics and electrical engineering. Free energy nuts are like religious nuts, you won't change them, but if this video helps even just a few people who are on the fence about it, realize that its BS. then its a job worth doing!. And just like religion, they will live out their lives without being able to prove anything!, which is kinda sad because some of the hard core free energy nuts have a good mind that could be applied to a more worth while field of research, but hey, you cannot win them all.
Aussie50 The parallels to religion are not by accident, it's exactly the same psychology and delusion at play. Yes, some of these people are otherwise brilliant and it's a real shame they are not putting their efforts into something more realistic.
EEVblog Math and Electronics are examples of exact sciences. However do not for one second believe or presume that all science is exacting! There is just as much junk BS science out there as junk BS religions. Religion in general is bunk as it equates to nothing more than legalism and human viewpoint.
To all the people who are going to ask "*ARE YOU REALLY SAYING THAT TESLA WAS WRONG? TRIGGERED!*," YES. I am saying that Tesla was wrong on that specific issue. Brilliant minds don't always get things right.
hahaha yeah thats the ticket you are smarter than the Genius of a Tesla right knucklehead? Your not even in the same ballpark you would be lucky to graduate from the peanut gallery in comparison to anything Tesla did and claimed. For your information he could prove his claims or he would have never recieved Letters Pattent.
1NRG24Seven When the fuck did I say I was smarter than him? All I said was that Tesla was wrong on this specific issue. Stop being so fucking butthurt over someone disagreeing with your little cult.
@1NRG24Seven Great minds getting things wrong isn't new, might remind you or inform you if you don't already know Einstein is credited with "disbelieving" Quantum Mechanics ... his exact opinion on the subject was "God does not play dice" .... lol He was wrong/mistaken just as tesla was (by the way am a HUGE Tesla fanboy)
Tesla was brilliant, but also full of hot air, and often made spurious claims in public. He was also flat wrong about a number of things. Unfortunately there are many fools today that believe the fake claims he made were actually backed up by real devices he was keeping hidden.
That was an epic Free Energy smack-down. I've seen this guy before talking about legitimate EE subjects so I knew up front he had the EE street creed to do a spectacular take-down. I'd like to see more of these debunking videos though, there are tons of other Free Energy gimmicks out there spreading around like a virus. Many of them involve spinning magnets, so a whole genre of BS could probably be taken out with one video on that subject.
This was a great video. Informative and entertaining. The problem with anonymous free energy nuts on the internet is you can't argue with someone void of logic....... and you can't beat them with a stick.
Correct those of us with a much higher I.Q. understand those of weaker mind sets can not comprehend basic concepts and are therefor bankrupt to make any logical sense to refute what has already been proven by our own experiements varifying to my own satisfaction that they are ignorant and clueless to prove otherwise. The weaker minds are mindless not able to do anything but parrot their gubment shool dumbing down retoric they were so thouroghly indoctrinated to believe is reality. Completely incapable of forming intelligent conclussions on their own by their own experiences.
@Austin Stockwell Aight, power your house of a free energy device and prove us all wrong, go on, do it. You can't, and never will, because physics says no. You can't argue with physics.
And thus, a bunch of idiots who doesn't understand overunity mechanics as well as unable to think thermodynamics can be wrong especially when it comes to entropy.
These pipe dreams are nothing short of comedy. I can't tell you how many time I see "One trick electric companies don't want you to know about" or "Obama doesn't want to you know about this one trick to get free energy" etc. All you have to do is read the headline and have a good laugh. I am no electrical engineer, but I know enough to know that some little youtuber or some clickbait columnist isn't making any breakthroughs. Brilliant breakdown by the way!
*We* are the music makers... and *we* are the dreamers of dreams. I wont stop with my "fruitless efforts" Saying something is impossible or fantasy is how great things are born.
***** Personal disbelief in a "fundamental law" like thermodynamics is not sacrilegious; in fact it's healthy! However, the measurable proof is what segregates the genius from the quack. Dave is not trying to downplay anybody's passion but rather dissuade this [very real] trend of blind faith.
I took both Trig and Calc and you made a lot of sense of some of that stuff I never practiced in a real life situation. I'd like to see more math and electrical explanations. Great video. Thanks.
EEVblog , I know that you you're an expert with this 'math', 'science', and 'engineering' that you speak of... But there are mysterious and magical forces that govern our universe that nobody, but the best garage hobbyists can possibly understand! I was able to create a flying car by sprinkling the blood of a captured pegasus on an old junk that I got off Craigslist. Rather than having to put that 'gasoline' rubbish in it, or a battery like those crappy Tesla cars, I was able to power it with the tears of leprechauns! (They were crying because I kept their gold locked away from them.) Once I finished the car, which also required that I duct tape a number of cool fins to it, I realized that it was getting late in the evening and so my maiden voyage would impact my next work day. In a stunning leap of scientific faith, I broke my watch with a hammer. I realized that if it can't keep counting time, then that means that I've effectively stopped time! Brilliant, right? I can't believe I never considered doing that before, but sure enough, it stopped ticking! I would totally make a video about these miracles of innovation and magic, to show you how they all work, but my camera battery died before I could. I have it attached to a free energy quantum vacuum system for charging, so once it's charged up, I'd get right on making that video for you. ;) It shouldn't take long to charge, you just plug it in, and 'Bob's Your Uncle'... Or possibly Larry, or whomever is a brother of your mother or father. It would be so much faster charging the camera battery if I had a trusty infrastructure of solar freaking roadways! LOL :)
Dave, I qualified as an electronics engineer 35 years ago, but since then I moved into electronics manufacture and then QA. And I was always much more into digital electronics than analogue, even though there are analogue considerations in digital circuits, particularly where synchronisation and timing are concerned. But your videos are so clearly explained and argued that I was answering your rhetorical questions on cue, in an instant. Everything came back to me: "Then that BJT turns off, and that turns the Darlington pair off, and so the inductor shoots for the sky, but it's clamped at diode forward voltage, and that whacks a mess of current through the LEDs..." But I am pleased I spotted the non-inductor inductor before you mentioned it. When you said the video poster had said there was no inductor, I just pointed at the screen and laughed. "That's a buggering _huge_ inductor right there! Why bother with the ferrite ring at all, if you're solely looking at DC?"
I have an often occurring proof that free energy exists. There am I half slumbering in front of the TV with a cold bear in the hand, absolutely no energy, then my mother in law calls to ask if she can come by, suddenly I have lots of energy to go out in the shed, mown the lawn, driving to get stuff in the city and so on, and all that energy comes absolutely free from nowhere! :-)
I saw a guy on TH-cam who claimed he found free energy. He literally put a motor above his chimney and burned his mail in the fireplace which would make the motor above the fireplace spin therefore generating electricity.
EEVblog Dave you should do some lessons about simple electronics stuff like kirchhoff's laws or simple analog devices like diodes, transistors or amplifiers but in a more down-to-earth way like you do so well (i mean not just explain the theory but give practical examples) i think it would be more educational than mailbag videos ;) i also liked when you had a electronics side project you worked on from time to time. Anyway thanks for the video, i liked it.
I think if he did more of this on fundamentals Friday it would be great. Take any circuit (at random from say a magazine) and walk us through it, always very addictive to watch. These are the videos I like the best. It did not matter to me that the subtext was about debunking some crackpot theory. It was the circuit that I found interesting!
The educational videos are my favorite kind, too. Opening packages is nice and I'm sure that the people who send them in get a hell of a kick out of it, but I'm here for knowledge. Which is why I am sad that the Fundamentals Friday series has been neglected and I have to look for that elsewhere...
No Dave I did build a motor that takes energy from 2x AAA batteries and produces 2000 Watts. My next project is to building cold fusion reactor with Tuna cans and table salt and tin foil.
Janusz Gluszak You'll need some adamantium from Captain 'Murica's shield to protect yourself from the highly penetrating gama rays so the design wouldn't work...
Great video thanks for making it. But you've touched on a real problem with our education system in the US. I am a college professor teaching "kids" physics and technology classes. From what I have seen teaching thousands of students is we have several generations of kids who were taught anything is possible as part of the"No Child Gets Left Behind" education pol;icy. This generation of kids believes anything is [possible if you can believe it. You are also asking people to use "critical thinking" skills. Politicians in US tried to get the teaching of "Critical Thinking" outlawed in the US not too long ago. We need more people like you debunking these ridiculous claims.... The only problem is we have generation of kids who believe the laws of physics can be broken if you think they can and they won't believe what you just showed and proved to them. Even though you have just showed them no laws of physics have been broken, they will still won't believe you and think the laws of physics can be broken. It's something I see everyday with college students. Why we did this to our kids I still can't figure out. But I suspect it was connected to the "Wedge Strategy" where religious creationist ideologies where attempted to be taught as science. The first step in doing so is to get people to believe anything is possible when it comes to science.
It's amazing how stupid the current generation is. This is mainly observed from what you've just described and even more, from what we can see on the social media. Their current trends are _"revolt against the system"_, _"elites"_, _"lame schools"_, _"science is wrong"_ and many others like _"flat earth movements"_ . What they fail to realize is that they are indeed following dogmas, and being indoctrinated by an alternative system that is literally screwing their minds. No, we don't _"essentially"_ need this kind of things. The change mustn't come from youtube.. We need to establish a correct environment for the next generation in which critical thinking is a *crucial* component. Unfortunately, this what exactly the politicians *don't* want, for whatever reasons.
Bl4ck Not sure if you are in the US, but here the fundamentalist Christians are following the Wedge Strategy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wedge_strategy The goal is to discredit science and to allow religious to beliefs to be taught as science. Something else they have tried to get outlawed in the US is Critical Thinking skills.
Amen, you guys put it into words very well, I'm in my 50's and I love the internet but I also see it's harm, there is a generation of kids that are falling for really stupid things because of the net and the ppl spewing here
in this 45 minutes i have learned more about electricity then in 31 years of my life (many concepts just made click) thanks for that! keep debunking you are a great teacher. Outrage + Glee + Knowledge = Great teaching Vehicle
As an IT developer this reminds me of the number of times someone comes up to me at work, scientists too for that matter, asking for me to 'automate' an idea of theirs without specifying what they require automation of or thinking through their ideas. It's frightful how most people lack basic analysis skills - which is how politicians, kickstarter bunkum and religious leaders con people.
Boy, that takes me back to when that guy actually claimed that there is a tiny resistor under the positive cap of AA batteries, because he had heard batteries had an internal resistance, and after all, where else would it be?
This type of energy fascinates me, ZPE tge most energy dense stuff know or aetheric energies like Tesla worked with. It’s about time this came out and there is no need to burn anything to get but. Cheers
I learned a lot from this video. However, I would never want to watch a Batman movie with this guy. He'd be all "You KNOOWWWW he couldn't bust through a reinforced wall of a standard 37 cm thickness with a vehicle mass of less than 2 tonnes!!!"
+Luke Riley you're comparing a fictional movie to a guy claiming to be talking scientific fact trying to honestly make people believe free energy is real when its not? uwotm8?
I love it that video was removed LOL Nice job, I love when fakes are exposed Question Did you see where he was asking for donations for researching the free energy? LOL
"Without current limiting resistors, this circuit is a piss poor design!" Had a good belly laugh on that one! Awesome circuit analysis, Dave...a good lesson in circuit fundamentals. Until now, I hadn't seen this particular claim of "free energy". Thanks for taking the time on the debunking.
I have a free energy device; three intertwined copper conductors, my extension lead, which I have proved can supply free energy...from my neighbours house.
Dave, i know you have good intent, but you honestly are wasting your time. The reason people believe in snake oil is not an issue of ignorance(even though it CAN be). There are many people in the world who feel they did not get their fair piece of the pie, and settled on the conclusion that the fault lied not on themselves, but the system. Now, these people could easily be talked into realizing the fallacy of that mindset soon after, but when allowed to sit there and fester for years, they start building their life on this assumption. The mind is a fragile thing, and when there is a faulty block in the foundation of it's logic, it will try to reinforce it. To do this, some will go after the so called 'impossible', because they are smart and the system was just lying to him to keep him down. All the other failures were the system silencing those people to hold them down. And all this they believe, not because it makes actual sense, but because it makes sense to them as *ANY* other belief would make their whole house of cards fall down. Accepting that they were wrong all along, and that there isn't someone holding people back from their potential, would mean accepting the fact that you are to blame for the state of your life, and not the system. This is such an ego shattering thing to accept, that the mind may make it impossible to accept. It is much more convenient to pass off people trying to talk sense into them as 'proof' of the system holding them down. They have set the whole thing up to reinforce a fallacy in their logic, you cannot win here. Denial is not by choice, but a defense mechanism to prevent a serious conflict in the foundation of someone's logic. It is very likely most of these people will take their fairy tale to the grave. The fact that it is a fairy tale is too much for their mind to accept. With that said, even though most are a lost cause, there is *one* thing you can take home from the wasted time, and that is a lesson about yourself. Do not box yourself into your own assumptions based on a classical education without allowing for the possibility that something may in fact be flawed with our current understanding of physics. Don't get me wrong, I am no pseudoscience follower, but I do keep an open mind, just not so open my brain falls out ;) I owe that much to *myself*, not others.
Richard Smith I know very well I'm wasting my time with the free energy nuts, that's why as mentioned I wouldn't ordinarily do it, this video is not for them. In this case I think it's a useful engineering exercise of benefit to regular viewers.
EEVblog You're definitely doing the video for the right reasons. Educating those willing to learn, rather than wasting time wrestling with people unwilling to. Thanks for the effort you put into them.
I'm entry level, and even I know Manofstone could have proven the battery depeltion by simply touching some multimeter probes to the terminals of the battery...
Just had a thought: just how much CAN one drain from a new battery - say he left it shorted for several hours. Can the battery voltage EVER get close to zero volts?
Topological papers on this effect can be read by authors Reisenberger, Michael P.; Rovelli, Carlo (1997). ""Sum over surfaces" form of loop quantum gravity". Physical Review D. 56 (6): 3490. I can assure you it is not BS. However, I do not think a physical extraction device has been created yet. The principles are just not well understood. Let's not forget though, fire was never understood for thousands of years. That did not make fire less useful or the inventors of the steam engine any less competent.
+Crobular I Imagine the sound of a string tied to your forehead. Imagine plucking this string and pulling it taught. Imagine a string with infinite tensile strength being plucked and pulled infinitely taught, as it resonates in your head.
I'm sad when i think some of them have wasted countless hours , days even year trying to make something basically impossible and since they lack the knowledge to even correctly measure their results, they believes they are making progress.
If you want to see a pathetic example of that, check out the life story of Joseph Newman. He was mentally disturbed, so that is a partial excuse for his wasted life, but his stupidity and bone head "theories" caused him to piss his life away. Now he's deader than Kelsey's nuts, and for what? He discovered NOTHING. It was all a bunch of horse shit. Pitiful.
Gary, you simpleton. Do you not realise this is the internet age, I mean we ARE commenting on the internet, once something is out thats it, the information is OUT, it cannot be stopped, period. It's why sites like Wikileaks exist. If free energy machines were real, we'd all be using it already. Not one single person has come even remotely close to demonstrating a free energy machine actually powering something of significance, zero, none, zip, nada!
Wow, you are soo deluded its hilarious. A tiny part, or rather pretty much your entire list, all of which I'm aware of, none of which have been proven. You honestly believe a car can run just on water? lol. Christ on a bike, please go back to primary school and start to educate yourself in basic science please. Again, if it was real, if people were actually using this stuff to power everyday things, EVERYONE would be talking about it and we'd ALL be using it. Something as utterly incredible like that the information would spread like wildfire. The very fact that it hasn't and we're not using it is proof alone that its all utter bullshit.
Well there we go, we're on a video about free energy, replying to a comment about free energy, you mention the guy that supposedly made a car that runs only on water and now you're moving the goal posts completely by talking about machines that run on hydrogen. Laughable. Hydrogen is an established fuel source, not free energy. Splitting water requires an energy source to do the splitting, there's nothing magical or free about it and there is no self sustaining machine that can split water AND power a vehicle at the same time without some form of additional battery or power source. I'm afraid the only person here thats dumb is you, dumb for not paying more attention at school, but instead following like a blind sheep conspirtard videos posted on youtube. Seriously go pick up a physics book, try doing some actual experiments yourself and come back to me when you've made a free energy machine powering a tv set, good luck, you'll need it (along with some magic beans)
I would have been hapy if my electronics professor at university would have explained things like you do. In case you do like teaching and explaining which i think you do very well, i guess a lot of students would be very grateful to have a good electronics professor to teach them from real world experience with some humor. Keep up doing those the awesome videos, please ;)
There's a lot of noise out there and a huge amount of wishful thinking amongst the over unity, free energy community. However, infrastructure that provides free energy purely from ambient conditions already exists and I've been benefitting from it for years; photovoltaics. I would like to sound a cautionary note. Whilst there is a healthy dose of dodgy science in many of these offerings and thanks for your work showing this, it's worth noting that history has shown, time and time again, that 'accepted wisdom' is always temporary. This also applies to our current understanding of physics unless, of course, you think we no know all there is to know on the subject.
energy from ambient conditions does exist of course. but energy out of nothing but thin air does not exist and it will never. Photovoltanics get their energy from Nuclear fission inside the sun. Thats not free in my book.
Thin air is neither thin nor full of nothing. If it were, spacecraft wouldn't need heat shields for re-entry. Free energy contraptions produce energy from ambient conditions. There is always input; magnetic fields, gravity, whatever. Your claim that it will never exist is an absolute declaration that we know all there is to know about physics and that's not even remotely true. My infrastructure has zero moving parts and energy from the FUSION generator in the sky is definitely ambient conditions on our planet. Whether we use it or not it is freely available and my wallet insists that it's free.
Robin Harrison i am not claiming that. energy from ambient conditions is not free. if you call energy gained from ambient temperature "free" then "free" energy exists. thats how solar cells, stirling englines and geothermal generators work. "free energy" does not mean that its free of charge. free energy means that you create energy out of nothing. perpetual motion pretty much. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perpetual_motion that is what i am referring to with free energy. Not energy you dont have to pay for. Energy you dont have to pay for is very common.
Solar cells don't work with temperature they work with photons in the sunlight which constitute the ambient conditions on the earth. Stirling englines and geothermal generators require heat input. Free energy contraptions all need input of some sort, be that magnetic fields, gravity, whatever. My free energy contraption uses photons for which there is no cost; financial, physical or metaphysical, and produces actual free energy. Maybe not more out than in but definitely in a usable form that previously didn't exist. Of course there's a lot of codswallop out there on the subject but an absolute belief free energy contraptions can't exist can be misleading. For instance, my free energy contraption which works can't be a free energy contraption because free energy contraptions can't exist. Yes they can, I've got one.
Robin Harrison there is a phsical cost. photons. you take a high energy photon and remove its energy. its not free. it costs a photon which was created by nuclear fission inside the sun most likely(or by a flame, a lamp...). thats not free. you just take a photon and convert it into electrical energy. that photon would normally have used its energy to heat something up or even accelerate something else(since light is a wave and a particle at the same time for some reason).
Well even if you say that, you clearly paid for it by buying the battery and/or charging it up though... And the battery was produced somewhere, which may or may not have had "bad environmental effects"
+Khun. Roma Except not... Even if the energy itself is "free", the equipment costs. And as said often these "free energy" folks don't even mean =0$, they mean theres some spooky quantum energy or something, with no real proof for that.
Ok, so Austin, are you pissed because SOMEBODY invested millions to harness Niagara Falls, and sell the electrical energy to recoup their investment and maintenance on their investment? If YOU would invest millions/billions to harness some hydro power, or wind power, or geothermal power, or solar power, and generate electricity with it, would you GIVE the electricity away? C'mon now, fess up.
Well, to be quite honest, I am sure they have already gotten their money back. In spades. But - it was a risk when they constructed that hydro system way back then. However, I hear your statements loud and clear. Our local utility is investing heavily in photovoltaic arrays. Time will tell if they prove to be a worthwhile investment
Root Beer Not necessarily true. There are some perfect ones, such as the 3 people known as God, and Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost (still a spirit-only human for now) who don't have that characteristic.
Uh, yeah, itzJanuary, they are. We're created in their image. What should they be instead: cats, fish, lice, elephants, bacteria, mice, or zebras, etc.?
He speaks for 45 minutes and then stops. Coincidently, its also the same length of the video. Science cant explain this coincidence. Free energy is therefore proved.
there are other forms of free energy then just a creative circuit... Crystal cells for example have been proven to give a low current for years, Oxford electric Bell has been ringing for 176 years lol, dont close yourself to the idea that we just might not have everything figured out already
I'm thinking that messing with the inductor (and the capacitor perhaps) would yield a far better efficiency. Still no free lunch though and no quantum vacuum though. The transients from the inductor may BAM those LEDs a bit harder ;D and at the right frequency for better brightness. I bet the ratio of the inductance to the capacitance has a marked effect
LMAO this video made me laugh so hard. Dave you're a star! The original guy is clearly someone who not only doesn't understand the basic laws of physics, nor electronics. The way you explained it to non-electronics backgrounded people or scientifically minded at the ended was so concise and easy to understand, even a school grader could pick that up.
This is excellent. Thank you. You took your time to destroy a myth. However, I think you are incorrect at 29:30. There is no need for current limiting at the LEDs because the inductor itself is a current source, not voltage. The parallel LEDs may be a problem though if there is too much difference between them.
Great Video! This was like an episode of "Magicians Secrets Revealed" with humor. Sorry to those who refuse to understand that you cannot get something out of nothing in anything. This video is also a great teaching tool for electronic engineering students as it teaches and demos BJTs, Oscillators,LEDs,Coils, Caps and how to use your equipment for circuit analysis.
Howdy from Texas!! After three years, this video still makes me laugh!! The frequency oscillation in your voice shows how passionate you are while debunking the circuit. Very informative. Love your videos!! Be safe. ❤☝
The fact that whoever originally designed that circuit used a darlington pair to cut off the inductor implies to me that this was deliberately designed to fool the "over unity" crowd. With its extremely high gain and consequently extremely sharp transition to cut-off, whoever originally designed it knew that the "quantum vacuum bullshit generator" was just a plain inductor. Yeah... After looking at the BDX33C, its got a collector-emitter voltage rating of 100V. This.. thing.. would have probably still lit all 23 LED's just fine if they were put in series, and with no FET gates anywhere, all those hideous voltage spikes from the LEDs' turn-on time don't have anything to destroy.
Love this video. I'm trying to learn as much as possible about analogue electronics and this video is great at showing circuit analysis from first principles. Plus everyone loves a bit of schadenfruede! And it makes a great point, that there's no knowledge gained from saying 'I think this circuit is doing something exceptional'.. if you were going to replicate the effect or actually gain knowledge, you'd have to analyse it and then find 'actually this is not exceptional at all'.
Oh wow that first debunking section really hit me hard, i actually have a single led light that has been on for over 2 years now, and i was wondering to this day how it was even possible. It's very dim because the phone battery i used to make the thing (homemade flashlight) had it's overcharge circuits burn out during an accidental overcharge, so i could not recharge it. So i left it on and weeks went by with the dim light still being on. Then a year went by, and now over 2 years. Not claiming at all that it breaks the laws of physics, but i am still unsure how its still on, is it somehow sucking power from the air?
im not certain, it was a standard one though, so anywhere between 600 and 1,000 i am pretty sure. It did finally go out a week ago, so almost 2 1/2 years of being dimly lit.
I learned a lot about the battery depletion part, thanks. FYI, the closest thing I got to free energy, which was only free for me, but cost someone else.... was a simple battery-less rf circuit that stored power from all the CB and ham stations that were in my neighborhood. Basic am radio kit and a cap instead of hi z headphone lol
Aside from lack of current limit/sharing ballast resistors in the led array, there is no limit resistor between Q1 collector and Q2 base to limit the drive current.
Dave, you taught more basic EE in this video than most of the free-energy types would ever experience in their whole lives. Hopefully, going to this level will help more of them tinker more intelligently & reduce the number of nonsense claims posted on YT--but, I doubt it because newbies often come across things when tinkering that they don't have the ability to understand or mathematically evaluate (given that they don't have much physics, electronics knowledge, & zero EE knowledge). It's simply easier & cheaper for them to make & post a video with bogus claims & wait for others to explain to them why their conclusions are wrong. Today you did that! Excellent explanation!
What is that little red board that converts current to voltage called if I was to search for one? I know it just uses an op amp to do it, but I would like to have a nice little board like that.
Exactly correct MIT peer-review has this LED pump circuit that is like this type in the ridiculous video here... The name of the MIT peer-review is ‘above unity’ Very naive video right here!
Not bullshit. The U.S/NIF created a fusion reactor that generated more energy than it used in 2013. The problem has always been how to sustain such a state permanently.
Excellent video. As a technical aside, you might like to note that you are trying to measure mean current with a true RMS meter. The frequency is also pretty high. It could do with a passive RC filter before the meter to avoid the RMS/mean error and avoid the frequency response of the DMM. Of course this doesn't change any of your conclusions, or the excellent work you did on the video :-)
The best solution is to build a 3000 feet antenna to collect atmospheric static electricity to a multi plate capacitor battery and use it to power your establishment , any exes power can be grounded . There are no moving parts except the switches and breakers , and transformers . The initial voltage will be high but can be brought down with an electronic switch board to 120 or 240 volts . You will need a permit and license to build it up also an electrical contractor license . Plus you have to pay tax on the amount of power you will be using , otherwise it will be illegal .
Many of these 'over unity' circuits rely on pulsed currents from switched inductors, transformers or motors. The experimenters assume that current times voltage equals power in such circuits. If this is questioned, they will buy 'True RMS' meters and claim this answers any criticisms. It doesn't. V rms x I rms still does not necessarily equal power in such situations. Measurement of power in pulsed circuits is not easy, and this is where a lot of the mistaken results come from.
If the device produce more than it's needed energy, why
1) does he need a battery at all?
2) does the LEDs go out? Shouldn't they stay lit forever?
the battery is used to get it going. It should not need the battery after the system is running.

In my country, you have 3 different difficulties for high schools. The lowest one basically doesn't have physics, unless you choose it. So there are a lot of people in my country who don't even know this. It's quite helpful, actually, as technical jobs are easy to find.

(They were crying because I kept their gold locked away from them.)
Once I finished the car, which also required that I duct tape a number of cool fins to it, I realized that it was getting late in the evening and so my maiden voyage would impact my next work day.
LOL :)
you should call it Quantum Pegasus Cyclone
Dave, I qualified as an electronics engineer 35 years ago, but since then I moved into electronics manufacture and then QA. And I was always much more into digital electronics than analogue, even though there are analogue considerations in digital circuits, particularly where synchronisation and timing are concerned. But your videos are so clearly explained and argued that I was answering your rhetorical questions on cue, in an instant. Everything came back to me: "Then that BJT turns off, and that turns the Darlington pair off, and so the inductor shoots for the sky, but it's clamped at diode forward voltage, and that whacks a mess of current through the LEDs..."
But I am pleased I spotted the non-inductor inductor before you mentioned it. When you said the video poster had said there was no inductor, I just pointed at the screen and laughed. "That's a buggering _huge_ inductor right there! Why bother with the ferrite ring at all, if you're solely looking at DC?"
This is so far my favorite episode, by a long shot! Thanks Dave, only 1.5 years late!
If only you used all this free energy to get on a treadmill with a generator... you would get rich?

EEVblog Dave you should do some lessons about simple electronics stuff like kirchhoff's laws or simple analog devices like diodes, transistors or amplifiers but in a more down-to-earth way like you do so well (i mean not just explain the theory but give practical examples) i think it would be more educational than mailbag videos ;) i also liked when you had a electronics side project you worked on from time to time.
Bl4ck Not sure if you are in the US, but here the fundamentalist Christians are following the Wedge Strategy.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wedge_strategy
The goal is to discredit science and to allow religious to beliefs to be taught as science. Something else they have tried to get outlawed in the US is Critical Thinking skills.
Amen, you guys put it into words very well, I'm in my 50's and I love the internet but I also see it's harm, there is a generation of kids that are falling for really stupid things because of the net and the ppl spewing here

EEVblog Fair enough :)
EEVblog Yup, maybe it's not too late for some kid who wanders away from the nuts and ends up here to be caught by the real bug :)
EEVblog I totally agree. I love this kind of videos. Extremely pedagogical and fun
EEVblog You're definitely doing the video for the right reasons. Educating those willing to learn, rather than wasting time wrestling with people unwilling to.
Thanks for the effort you put into them.
Piss poor? That's an industry term, right?
+Brian More of a technical term. As in the logic (?) of "free energy" believers.
Ya, it was a joke
Brian Kelly Yep, my remark was too.
I like Quantum Leap it is one of my favorite shows
I'm entry level, and even I know Manofstone could have proven the battery depeltion by simply touching some multimeter probes to the terminals of the battery...
At least i got a free physic lesson😎 So let the free positive energy flow🍁
In this house we obey the laws of thermodynamics
- Homer Simpson
Man, you turned a couple of free energy guys here into salty potatoes with their comments lol.
Father is eat potato
salty potatoes...
make potato batteries and get free energy!
Exactly correct. This is one of the most accurate comments out of so many ignorant & emotionally based comments!
No free lunch in this world.
+Crobular I
Tell that to those lucky starving African kids!!! =)
+Bungis Albondigas No lunch at all?
+Crobular I Our canteen at work is free. I eat my lunch their every day. You sir, are wrong.
+Crobular Take any two identical samples of white noise, over lap them, move one around. It will always phase. Enjoy the meal.
+Crobular I Imagine the sound of a string tied to your forehead. Imagine plucking this string and pulling it taught. Imagine a string with infinite tensile strength being plucked and pulled infinitely taught, as it resonates in your head.
Just like all these religious Fanatics no matter how much evidence or proof you throw at them they still believe what they want to believe.
Dave: powered by brain cells!
i love debunking vids.
me to
it actually amaze me that so many are tricked to believe that one can bend the universal laws on physics.
It is possible to obtain more energy than "thermodynamics stuff " states. Advanced quantum field theory actually "debunks" this video.
"Basic engineering"
You spelt "primary school arithmetics" wrong .-D
You really should move up to a medium shirt.
Nah, I think this one is just fine...
How much did the Illuminati pay you for this video, Dave?! ;)
There are so many people debunking stupid ideas in addition to Dave, with out receiving anything from Illuminati.
@@mutiur7396 Poe's law, my friend
I know it's expected, but I still always think it's neat that the theoretic waveform matches what you get on the scope.
Free is just not paying for it or it not having any bad environmental effects
Well even if you say that, you clearly paid for it by buying the battery and/or charging it up though... And the battery was produced somewhere, which may or may not have had "bad environmental effects"
0$ for energy Source = Free Energy
eg, solar,wind,hydro,wave,tide,nuclear,geothermal, etc....
+Khun. Roma
Except not...
Humans are egotistical creatures.
Root Beer
Not necessarily true. There are some perfect ones, such as the 3 people known as God, and Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost (still a spirit-only human for now) who don't have that characteristic.
Maxx Fordham And they are humans?
Uh, yeah, itzJanuary, they are. We're created in their image. What should they be instead: cats, fish, lice, elephants, bacteria, mice, or zebras, etc.?
Maxx Fordham Don't believe everything you hear or read... no matter whether it comes from the bible or not.
Exactly, Root Beer. Just because I know that basic truth doesn't mean I "believe everything [I] hear or read." But thanks for your concern.
Anti Bullshit edition. HAHAHA
This taught me more electronics than all of my physics teachers got done collectively.
does this man ever stop talking
Did you expect a song and dance routine?
Yep, if you hit pause. If you live in Sydney there's no respite though ;-)
+EEVblog
Do Michael Jackson routine.
:D
He speaks for 45 minutes and then stops. Coincidently, its also the same length of the video. Science cant explain this coincidence. Free energy is therefore proved.
This is the only thing thing that has truly made me laugh all day. Thank you.
there are other forms of free energy then just a creative circuit... Crystal cells for example have been proven to give a low current for years, Oxford electric Bell has been ringing for 176 years lol, dont close yourself to the idea that we just might not have everything figured out already
Crystal cells giving off a current doesn't proove the energy is free. IT has to come from somewhere.
To be precise, the Oxford electric bell is run by 2 batteries connected in series. ;)
They are not "crystal cells", they are dry pile batteries.
Be safe. ❤☝
dave i have learned more from watching your channel than two years of failed college. you are the best
I've got a silly lil question,
how would someone properly connect a bunch of leds if not in parallel?
+Omer By connecting them in series. Most LED drivers today routinely connect their output to series connected strings of LED's.
Not claiming at all that it breaks the laws of physics, but i am still unsure how its still on, is it somehow sucking power from the air?
how many mAh is the phone battery?
im not certain, it was a standard one though, so anywhere between 600 and 1,000 i am pretty sure.
Basic am radio kit and a cap instead of hi z headphone lol
this might be a dumb question... but where exactly IS the quantum vacuum occurring in this circuit?
Hey, could you debunk the Aires shield thing which claims to supress the harmfull EMF radiation.
Aside from lack of current limit/sharing ballast resistors in the led array, there is no limit resistor between Q1 collector and Q2 base to limit the drive current.
Whats that high pitched wining sound I hear thru all video?
It is rubbish for people that don't know how to extract energy from the vacuum :)
Exactly correct
MIT peer-review has this LED pump circuit that is like this type in the ridiculous video here...
The name of the MIT peer-review is ‘above unity’
Very naive video right here!
I HATE people who say FREE ENERGY!
I had free energy for 19 years... Then I moved out of my parents house.
Not bullshit. The U.S/NIF created a fusion reactor that generated more energy than it used in 2013. The problem has always been how to sustain such a state permanently.
I just tried to watch the "video in question." Unavailable. :(
It's working today, TH-cam glitch? I see a few people commented the same error...
ASTROALL Could you please site someone using such a circuit? Also, what amperage is produced by such a circuit?
Video is not available anymore? Why this?!
+Hans Wurst Sasquatch used alien technology to go back in time to delete the vid.
Just read the signs man.
+nosirrahx I just asked why the video was deleted. Maybe it was some kind of ironie - nevermind.
Hans Wurst
I thought I used enough captain obvious paint on that sarcasm, guess not.
+nosirrahx Not enough for someone, who learned english in school only. Not your fault, shame on my teacher.
Hans Wurst
Its all good, I was just poking fun at the people that believe in this free energy nonsense.
The video is now unavailable 😣
Thanks Dave, very entertaining. Thqt elusive quantum vacuum can be found between the ears of the original videos author.
What u say about single wire transmition and wireless tesla power sending ? There is no electromagnetic induction theory in operation there.
basic electronic engineering, nevertheless brilliant!
definitely one of Dave's masterpieces! (okay, he's got many more...)
