The intro could just go on and on. My favourite Who song of all time - such a groove.
Mine too!!
@@digzat I pity you both. If this is your favorite Who song, you both need to tear up your music appreciation card.
3 votes for favourite. Hey Michael, ‘favourite’ is subjective yeah? It’s not yours, cool, who’s saying you’re wrong? I’m not, so just chill. Let people have the things they like, and you have yours too
It may not be my favorite all time because I like so many Who tunes but it is right up there.
I love this song. My favorite Who song.
Mine too!
The Who began as a teen Mod band in the early 60s and did lots of RnB cover songs. They got real funky on this one
Always the most Mod band, also Mod Rod.
I finally just confirmed what I had always thought-this video is them rehearsing for the first Who concert I ever attended when I was a sophomore in college. Had to wait for hours in a long line to purchase the tickets, but seeing them perform at the Capital Centre in Maryland in 1982 was well worth the wait.
So glad one of the subscribers suggested this song! It's about the ups & downs of the whole drugs & money party lifestyle, along with all which comes with it. This tune was also one of the influences Michael Mann had for when he was putting together the premise for "Miami Vice."
Glad you liked it!
I love how Roger is brought in a Cadilliac and Pete steps out of a Ford 15-passenger van...
From the 1982 album, " Its Hard", this was the second album after Keith Moon's death.
Written and sung by Pete's it a song about illusions, delusions and drug use amongst the wealthy.
Pete's cleanly slicing guitar work along with great vocals, with the pulsating bass line, and the rhythm of the drums show they could connect Townshend's new wave influenced solo work with the classic sound of " Who's Next". Just a great tune. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Frank. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
One of my favorite tunes for this band, Who. Iconic.
I remember when this album came out, Rolling Stone Magazine in their review said something to the effect of "Just when we were ready to declare The Who irrelevant, they go and release this album and prove us wrong."
After the loss of Keith Moon, it was not assured that they'd be back, but they sure were.
Pete Townshend is so talented. If you haven’t, you might check out his solo albums. Great song to start with is Empty Glass or Rough Boys. ❤️🇨🇦
Rough Boys is such an odd song. Lyrically speaking. But yeah, Empty Glass is amazing.
I also liked Pete's concept EP "White City," which was about the projects he grew up in.
Such a great song!!!! Great pick Frank. Rock on Harri!!🤘🤘🤘
Townshend wrote this about the "front" that drug-fueled fame and wealth makes people, particularly rock stars, put on. Pete himself had just completed a regimen of Ativan detox for his out-of-control alcoholism when he recorded this. The funky drummer is Kenney Jones, who took over for Keith Moon after his untimely death. Thanks Frank and Harri!
My favorite song by the Who. “Won’t you come and join the party dressed to kill” great lyrics and brings me to my high school days🎉 great reaction Harri as it is pure funky!!
Great song.... good pick! ❤
Love this song and hadn’t heard it in many years. Thanks Frank and Harri 🌺✌️
At 60 years of age, I put The Who as one of my top 2 bands; they each share #1. The Who had a genius song writer, one of the best rock drummers of all time, the best rock bass players of all time, and a solid lead singer.
That's my theme song right there! You sound like you're from across the pond, son. I can't believe you've never heard this tune. Used to play it once a day, every day, on the way to school/work. As you point out, one thing about this song is its funk/blues basis. You have to remember The Who was *_heavily_* influenced by some great blues bands and actually started out as a blues band.
Best song ever written: the lead-in, the vocals, Pete's guitar work, the lyrics.....everything. They've done a live orchestral version with the NY Symphony Orchestra that's killer too, if you can find it. The guitar intro _and_ the outtro are unsurpassed. Pete puts so many half and quarter rests (and even a couple full rests, I think) into the last 4 measures, it's extremely tough to play.
The meaning in this tune is so deep on so many levels. Many things in life really _are_ an eminence front. Our legal system is the epitome of an "eminence front."
Very Best Regards,
Tom Scott

One of their best!
Harry my funk brother, I knew you'd love it! Rock on Brother! Rock on!
They were such an influential and eclectic band, and the bassist would hold the individual notes longer than most other bassists did.
Got to see them on their first of many farewell tours the one I saw them on was in 1982 at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens that concert was broadcast across Canada and the USA as it was supposed to be their very last concert ever. I think it was close to Christmas like the 16th or 17th of December ( I got the ticket as an early Christmas present) it was a Friday night I remember that much. I was 15 at the time of this concert. WOW, 41 years ago where did the time go?
Just luuuuuve this song of theirs! A very funky song with a great message 💗💗
You should hear the live version !!
It’s EVEN FUNKIER.
isolate that bass line from "the Ox" and really have your mind blown! incredible
Loved this song since I was a kid. It grooves deep and true. The message is still on point right up to this moment.
Gerard Butler's character playing it in the movie Law Abiding Citizen was also so much fire. IYKYK
Definitely a BANGER! Great song to drive very fast while funk dancing in the driver’s seat, as that’s what happens every time I play this song in the car 😂
It’s the bass Entiwhistle is slappin’ that drives this beat.
💐 🙇🏻♂️
Snippets of this song were in the movie "Law Abiding Citizen" I had never heard this song before and had to go through the movie credits to find out that the Who had recorded this
Yeah this is a great unique kick ass no-nonsense rock n roll song Harri!!
Great reaction Harri !
HarriBest! You were in for a banger on this one!!! 😏
❤❤The WHO !! Great song
Great song, and excellent video. Seen it many times. I love the way it leads right up to the performance.
I had no idea this was The Who, it was decades after this hit the airwaves that I became aware.
I got to see the Who in 82 at the cotton bowl in Dallas Texas. It was after the trampling of fans in Cincinnati. I was on about the 20 yr line in front of Pete. People behind were pushing and it was so packed I couldn't move my feet and all I could think was if I get pushed over I'm gonna die. I survived and it was an iconic concert. Most scared I've ever been in my life. Billy Squier opened and he go booed off the stage. Best thing was when the Dallas Cowboy Chearleaders came on stage to sing the stroke. I was a fan of bs in the day but everyone was there to see the Who, not bs.
Roger plays rhythm guitar. He has played guitar, since the early 60’s -yet with Pete’s obvious talent, Roger rarely added until like this in the early 80’s. Roger plays Harmonica, too. Mostly you see him spin his Mike in the air, and wail his vocal range.
This WHO (1919-82) had a different dynamic.
Kenny Jones, drummer, who…😉 drummed for The Small Faces, and The Faces, is in The Rock hall of Fame, for those two bands; The Who is the original four (Roger, Pete, John, Kieth) 🎸
I noticed there wasn't a "whammy bar" on any of the guitars as well as that dirty bass line! I wouldn't believe this was the Who if I haven't heard it before.
I just read Kenney Jones' autobiography and he's a a solid dude, a good human being. Keith Moon was always going to be a hard act to follow in The Who, so he didn't and remained true to his own approach. Interesting choice of Who song, never heard this one before but yeah it's pretty funky.
A great song! Love it!
I love the DROP.
Let My Love Open the Door is Pete on lead as well.....funky too
That's a solo Pete song. Great song!
That was funky. Love it , couldn't stop dancing 😅
Always been in my Top 3 Who songs
I'd have to put it at 4. Who Are You, Won't Get Fooled Again, Baba O'Riley, Eminence Front. My Generation, Pinball Wizard and Substitute nearly push their way up there too.
@@debjorgo Mine are 1 Love Reign O'er Me 2 Won't Get Fooled 3 Eminence Front 4 Behind Blue Eyes 5 I Can See For Miles 6 Baba O'Reilly 7 Magic Bus 8 Bargain 9 5:15 10 Seeker
Time to do some solo Peter Townsend, the album is called "All good cowboys have Chinese eyes"
It's so ironic that this souds like a theme from an 80's US Cop drama when all along one of their bigger hits would go on to be one of their more recognisable tracks. This is genius. PT on vocals. Roger said it was the best track from the album. (It's Hard)
the only song I've ever heard the Who do that had elements of funk in it. Some might consider the riff in "Join Together" to be a little funky though.
this is the same year I saw them in Toronto and it was billed as their final tour...lol
I always thought what would Keith Moon do to this track. Thanks Harri for the reaction.
I used to listen to this song when I was a young man boy them are gone
Hey bruh!
Dig your vibe
There is a really good live performance of this. Do a search for the Toronto 1982 performance.
Some players in the N.B.A. used to use this as intro!
Funky as hell man, yeah!
Grove baby
That guitar just doesn't stop.
The 80's version of the Who. Kenny Jones on drums who was the 2nd replacement for Keith Moon after his death.
I'm kinda glad this is the original mix, with the vocals out of sync at the first chorus: "eminence front front"
Love hearing your reaction but I wonder what music 🎵 did you grow up on?
Dress yourself to Kill, H😁👋🤘👍🙏
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love the Who. Pete Townshend is an underrated songwriter.
☮️❤️🔥🔥🔥🎶🎵🎶...😎
Townshend and Entwistle could've held their own in a proper funk band.
sounded a bit Steely Dan by moments, it was very musical
For me, it's the best song they ever did. They're greats but not one of my go to's.
Never liked this song. Then I saw them do it on their last tour and it came alive and was great!
Someones been listening to sledgehammer!!
Sucks that these days are gone
Toronto ?
No 1 ever comments about the filming? AM I old?
80's MTV
The reason why they went in a different direction is because John Entwistle died before they went into the recording studio. John was one of the greatest drummers of all time. My absolute favorite song was from this band. The title of it was Won't Get Fooled Again.
Keith Moon died not Entwistle. Entwistle died much more recently.
The live version is about 10 times better .
