    As I have gotten older I find myself using TH-cam as almost a Time Machine. I used to play this game when I was 11 years old and I’m now 35 with a wife and a little girl. I have distant memories of this game and others. But I can use TH-cam to be transported back 24 years. As soon as I heard the opening music I felt like an 11 year old boy again. I could see my bedroom, remember my old friends and remember the game as if it was yesterday. We do really live in an amazing world now where we can use technology to go back in time.

      I am five years younger, however I feel every word of your comment. ;) Life has changed drastically over time and I still love to get taken back in Time when it comes to nostalgic feelings and especially pso. Bc. of that and how the game works online nowadays with it´s great community on gamecube (Ep 1&2 and Ep3 Card Revolution), friends from like 14 years ago and I still play it sometimes since there is nothing to compare to this game. There is nothing what takes me/us back in time like PSO does.
      Furthermore, I´ve played alot of split screen with my friends back in the days when I was like 9 or 10 years old. I was lucky and had a friend living right next to me who showed me Episode 1 & 2 on gamecube (lets say its a enhanced version compared to Ver. 1 and Ver. 2 on Dreamcast or PC) while I was playing Ver. 2 on Dreamcast. My god, we were addicted after we´ve rocked this game in split screen.
      Greetings from Germany.

    Jesus christ. This brings back so many memories. Forced my parents to pay for a second phone line so I could play online without forever hogging up the phone. Its hilarious to me to think that kids these days would have no idea what that sentence even means.

    My first online Game back in the day when I was 14yrs old.
    I played together with an other teenager from france. Image today! A german boy and a french boy played together as friends and not hating each other - crazy!
    Then, long time pasted, I grew up, got married and my own family,I played PSO2 and they had an event going that took you back to Resol! What a backflash into the best time as a kid.
    Thanks for the upload and the good memories.

    The Dreamcast had a very particular aesthetic that made me hopeful and optimistic. I still have mine and most of my games. Going through my stuff, I was surprised that I kept most of it.
    It came out when I was in high school. I remember seeing screenshots for Sonic Adventure in magazines like Gamefan and Gamepro, and 100% didn't believe the finished game would look nearly as good as Sega was advertising. It blew my mind to see it in action.
    To this day, Saturn and Dreamcast are my favorite consoles. They just had that "feel".

    This was one of those games that I missed out on, a game I just never played as a kid. I do have a Dreamcast, is this worth picking up in 2019? If yes, I plan on playing through the offline version first, is that experience worth buying it alone or no? I know about all the online servers that still exist, and planned on getting used to the controls, playing through it a bit, then maybe going online with the dreamcast, but that isn't the main reason I'm buying it. Is it really worth picking it up for the offline mode alone? Let me know, I'm definitely interested and thinking about picking it up. Looks real fun, too bad I never gave it a chance sooner!

    • @Aurelli
      @Aurelli 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The offline content is great too. I originally started with the Gamecube version and played it solely offline (and splitscreen) for YEARS before I found out about Blue Burst and fan servers.
      Phantasy Star Online has probably consumed more of my gameplay hours than any one game has.

    • @iamshawn9888
      @iamshawn9888 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Awesome, I'm going to pick it up! I do have one more question if you don't mind. I know there are a few versions of it, the first one being the original version 1, which was levels 1 to 100? Then version 2 improving upon some of the controls, adding new content, and even increasing the level cap to 200. My question is - what should I get!? I'd assume ver2 right? More content, more levels, more to do in general? That's my mindset right now. I just don't want to make the wrong decision as a noobie haha. Some advice would be great on which to buy. I am excited to give this a try, then if I really end up liking it, I might even try online (I know about the private servers available).

      @@iamshawn9888 Version 2 is an inprovement in every way. There are some VERY slight graphics changes, but they're just that. Very slight. I personally mostly play the Gamecube version both online and offline now, but I still go and visit the others aswell.

      @@iamshawn9888 The Sega Dreamcast is back online again and you can now do other servers, so yes definitely worth it, I'm going to try get back on it again, haven't been on since 2001 but DreamcastTalk is now the main hub for all Dreamcast online stuff and new members are coming back to it. Sega also release Ver. 2 on the Dreamcast also. The GNC were just ports to further capitalise for Sega but it was not a native Sega system with dedicated online infrastructure like the Dreamcast, plus you can now use the DCHDMI on Dreamcast which gives it true HD status, even more than its native VGA, you can even use Dreampi as a host. Other later versions did add a few smaller stuff, but Ver. 2 was where the best definitive version of the original was.
      You can even use classic Sega consoles as specialised mags, not sure why you wouldn't want to prioritise online, while it's still decent offline, online is essentially the icing of the game, though not essential, the idea is that you are meant to have a team member that specialises in a specific class that you do not, for example you might just have a basic but effective three strike combo with a sabre sword but get a shooter on your expedition team and you have longer range situations covered as well, members with mage like properties can act as your healers and powerful members have higher close range damage properties in exchange for speed manoeuvring ect.

    • @iamshawn9888
      @iamshawn9888 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@finaltuned2755 I actually did end up buying this game for the Dreamcast. I got a copy of version 2 on Ebay for like $20 or something, and man was it worth it! I'm a level 54 HUmar currently and played through normal and I'm almost done hard mode. I've been playing offline, but plan to buy a dreampi off of the dreamcastic channel shop so I can hop on and try some online play. I know about all the free online servers too, but I wanna be able to play on DC, so I will probably be buying the adapter right as I'm starting ultimate, as I want the full experience offline prior to joining online. So far, I'm having an absolute blast! I knew about the game back in the day, but my parents bought me a PS2, and the Dreamcast was pretty much dead by the time the game came to the US, so I never got to play it. If anybody else is thinking about buying this game, do it! It's easy to pick up and play once you get everything, plus, it's just as fun offline as I'm sure it is online!

    I spent a lot of hours playing this game and had a blast. The only thing that got me to stop playing was having a character I'd poured hours into getting NOL'd, and then my VMU crapping out when I tried returning after a while. And then, of course, the servers were shut down.

      Actually, there was a Xbox Version. It was basically the same version as what was released on gamecube. (Episode 1&2). However, afaik, they chose that xboxes needed to be online to play the game offline, which was a huge mistake I think (esp. back in the days). The equvivalent gamecube version didn´t force you to have an online connection, you could also play it offline.

    Some of the later missions are so hard to complete. Not because they are hard in themselves but because the AI companion for the mission is so inept and likes killing themselves.

      @@ghostofronaldreagan172 You should be able to play on a private server. The official server went down years ago. If you type into google "pc blue burst private server", the first link should get you going. Its all free now too. The game and drop rate might be reworked a little, so its not truly the same experience you would have had back then, but its the best you're going to get!
